A random, 'non-rational', 'non-linear', extempore collage done in a Dada-ist vein meant to undermine and scuttle the impulse to 'snap' images into easy interpretation ... that is, into a quickly discernible packaged meaning.
A kind of 'antiphonal' response to the new high-tech platforms of the current time that rely entirely on linear input. Sure, looks really great but how much chance, accident and intuition goes into it? There's a place, but not all the place.

In chaos theory, the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state

L'effet papillon: la dépendance sensible aux conditions initiales, où un petit changement à un endroit dans un système non-linéaire peut entraîner de grandes différences plus tard.

"I couldn't hear the water, and Caddy opened the door.
'Why, Benjy.' she said. She looked at me and I went and she put her arms around me. 'Did you find Caddy again.' she said. 'Did you think Caddy had run away.' Caddy smelled like trees.
She smelled like trees.
'Come on, now.' Dilsey said, 'You too big to sleep with folks. You a big boy now. Thirteen years old. Big enough to sleep by yourself in Uncle Maury's room.' Dilsey said.
'You a big boy.' Dilsey said, '... Hush now, so you can go to sleep.' The room went away but I didn't hush, and the room came back and Dilsey came and sat on the bed, looking at me.
'Good night, honey.' Dilsey said. The room went black. Caddy smelled like trees.
We looked up into the tree where she was."
The Sound and the Fury
William Faulkner
This quotation is taken from the Benjy section of Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury. Faulkner frequently used stream of consciousness in his writing. In the Benjy section, the story is told through Benjy, who has a severe intellectual disability; he is pure and untainted by society, and while he is unable to talk he expresses his feelings through his imagination and sensations of the natural world. Benjy loves his sister Caddy, and Caddy is the only family member who shows genuine care and love towards Benjy. Benjy sees Caddy as his source of comfort and order. He does not distinguish between the past and the present and perceives time in a nonlinear way. Benjy's memory of losing Caddy was associated with him having to sleep alone at the age of 13. In Benjy's early memories of Caddy, he associates Caddy's innocence with the smell of the trees in which they used to play. When Caddy entered adolescence and tries to wear perfume and have relationships, she no longer smells like trees and loses her innocence. This throws Benjy's world into chaos, and he responds by moaning and crying.

We’re born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we’re not alone.
Orson Wells.
George Orson Welles (May 6, 1915 – October 10, 1985) was an American actor, director, screenwriter and producer who is remembered for his innovative work in radio, theatre and film. He is considered one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.
His first film was Citizen Kane (1941), which is consistently ranked as one of the greatest films ever made, and which he co-wrote, produced, directed and starred in as Charles Foster Kane.
His distinctive directorial style featured layered and nonlinear narrative forms, uses of lighting such as chiaroscuro, unusual camera angles, sound techniques borrowed from radio, deep focus shots and long takes. He has been praised as "the ultimate auteur".

In the background the city of Fréjus a commune in the Var department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in Southeastern France. It neighbours Saint-Raphaël, effectively forming one urban agglomeration. The north of the commune forms part of the Massif de l'Esterel.
The origins of Frejus probably lie with the Celto-Ligurian people who settled around the natural harbour of Aegytna. The remains of a defensive wall are still visible on Mont Auriasque and Cap Capelin. The Phocaeans of Marseille later established an outpost on the site.
The exact date of the founding of Forum Julii is uncertain, but it was certainly before 43 BC since it appears in the correspondence between Plancus and Cicero and 49 BC is most likely.

Boaty McWaterface meets Liney McTexturise meets Reflecto McSunlight. I almost want to say that it's a Jackson Pollock but with straight lines, although that would be wrong: clearly it's nothing like that at all.
Maybe it's a comment on the ephemeral nature of thought itself, or perhaps I was attempting to subvert the theoretical limits of the human condition in a tribute to the nonlinearity of the the natural world.
Oh, it's all just too hard to describe!

To Thread a Needle with Memories
Gunjan Thapar (echoes), Embroidery
This body of work explores the intricate relationship between memory, resilience, and the neurodivergent experience of retaining memories. Living with ADHD, I have often found myself navigating the vibrant, nonlinear terrain of memory – where moments overlap, coexist, and sometimes elude focus. Through this series, I seek to honor the complexity of memory as a phenomenon, reflecting its chaotic beauty and its power to preserve both joy and connection.
The title “To Thread a Needle with Memories” encapsulates both the metaphorical and literal essence of my practice. The act of threading a needle demands patience, precision, and care, much like the process of holding onto memories – especially joyful ones – amidst the shifting landscape of time and trauma. My embroidered works are an attempt to stitch together fleeting moments, giving them permanence and form, while honoring the resilience that underpins this effort.
Each piece is a meditation on the act of threading together the fragments of memory: a delicate process that required intention, care, a consistent struggle with anxiety and the recognition that even amidst chaos, there is beauty in what we choose to preserve.
For this rendition of the 2-panel mosiac, I ran all of the subframes through the same PixInsight WBPP run so that they would all be at the same local normalization, I applied ChannelCombination to the RGB masters for each panel separately before merging the panels, and I produced separate star and nebula images before applying nonlinear stretches. The stars image was stretched delicately while the nebula image was stretched very agressively. I like the stars that resulted from this treatment.

Processing Steps:
Preprocessing: I preprocessed 120x300s subs (= 10.0 hours) in Pixinsight to get an integrated image using the following process steps: Image Calibration > Cosmetic Correction > Subframe Selector > Debayer > Select Reference Star and Star Align > Image Integration.
Linear Postprocessing: Rotation > Dynamic Crop > Dynamic Background Extractor (both subtraction to remove light pollution gradients and division for flat field corrections) > Background Neutralization > Color Calibration > Noise Xterminator.
Nonlinear Postprocessing and additional steps: Histogram Transformation > Local Histogram Equalization > Curves Transformation > SCNR Noise Reduction. Multiple passes of Histogram Transformation, Local Histogram Equalization and Curves Transformations were made in small doses.
