Marine debris on display collected by volunteers of B.E.A.C.H from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch during earlier beach clean-up events in the Big Island and Oahu, Hawaii on September 8, 2010. Littering and dumping at sea and land are resulting in an accumulation of marine debris in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre which than washes up on Hawai'i's beaches.

"Chavalos".....the term for children who live & sleep on the streets of Granada...... some as young as 5 yrs old. Homelessness and hunger often leads to substance abuse, here & elsewhere in the world....but it's a disturbing sight, to see young children wandering the streets with tubes of glue in brown paper bags..........sniffing glue staves off hunger, I've been told..............while it fries the brain. I learned of one struggling non-profit organization "Chavalos de Granada" helping street kids with hot meals once a week, limited medical attention, flip-flops to clad bare feet, bus fare to shelters for the night. While sitting one night at a sidewalk-cafe table on calle La Calzada, the young boy in the photo approached. He was kind of grubby and charmingly assertive. He asked for money but had something to offer in exchange. He'd made a flower out of a green palm frond (imagine origami from a leaf rather than paper). Is he still out there a year later?

chavalo.......nicaraguan jargon for 'a kid' usually under age 12

coming soon LOVE's website.

A big heart felt thank you to all of you for inspiring me to move forward with my dream. Never in my wildest dreams would I think complete strangers would offer their help and support the way each and everyone of you have done. And NEVER in my wildest dreams did I ever think that tiny little me would be this close to living my dreams. Thank you my dream makers for making not only my dreams come true, but for helping me to help the lives of those that I might touch to realize their dreams as well.

Phuong and I have been working relentlessly in getting LOVE's webpage launched. In the mean time, please click on the link below to see how you can help.

Currently we're working on getting a non profit status. I understand that it takes anywhere from 1-2 years to become an official non profit organization. Please understand that any contributions made will not be tax deductible.

ABOUT THE THIRST PROJECT

Almost 1 billion people on the planet do not have access to safe, clean water, and 4,100 kids under the age of five will die today from drinking dirty water. The Thirst Project is the world's leading YOUTH water activism organization. This movement of high school and college students builds freshwater wells in developing nations and impoverished communities to provide people with safe, clean water. The Thirst Project is a nonprofit organization that travels across the United States speaking at schools to educate students about the global water crisis and challenge them to fundraise to build wells. 100% of all public donations go directly to funding freshwater wells on the ground. We are really unique in that we have a private group of donors who fund 100% of the organization's "Overhead" so we can make this guarantee to the public. In just 6 years, The Thirst Project has activated more than 300,000 students on 320 campuses across the United States who have raised $8 million, 100% of which has been used to give more than 260,000 people in 12 countries safe, clean water. It is our desire through clowning to educate children on self-empowerment in order to build their confidence and show them how to laugh and to see the importance of helping others.

Our training staff, all of whom have been clowning for many years, professionally train all of the clowns in the Clowning for Kidz Foundation in the arts of clowning.

Moreover, all of our clown volunteers have gone thorough Sex Offender Registry Indicator (S.O.R.I.) & a Criminal offender Report Indicator(C.O.R.I.) background checks before they are allowed to perform in the community.

Many of them have received additional training in the art of clowning, and have received awards in recognition for their skills and dedication to the craft.
