From a regular nonagon. Ravi Apte was asking after nine-sided models and I had a couple. But I found I had very rudimentary notes on this one. Recovering the model was fun. Capable of Palmerian decreeping, but this seemed a good place to stop.

USS Philippine Sea 1954
USS Philippine Sea (CV/CVA/CVS-47, AVT-11) was one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers of the United States Navy, and the first ship to be named for the Battle of the Philippine Sea. She was launched on 5 September 1945, after the end of World War II and sponsored by the wife of the Governor of Kentucky.
During her career, Philippine Sea served first in the Atlantic Ocean and saw several deployments to the Mediterranean Sea as well as a trip to Antarctica as a part of Operation Highjump. Sent to the Korean Peninsula at the outbreak of the Korean War, she sent aircraft in support of United Nations ground troops, first during the Battle of Pusan Perimeter and then during the Inchon Landings and the Second Battle of Seoul. She subsequently supported UN troops during the surprise Chinese attack and the Chosin Reservoir Campaign. Philippine Sea saw three tours to Korea during the war, receiving nine battle stars for her service.
For the remainder of her service, she operated primarily out of San Diego and San Francisco, seeing several deployments to the Far East and being redesignated an anti-submarine warfare carrier. She was decommissioned on 28 December 1958 and sold for scrap in 1970.http://ift.tt/2klP9is

Nine Elms sheds (70A). The sheds closed on 9th July 1967 and this view was taken shortly afterwards, the engines cold and redundant, all awaiting their final journey to the scrapyard.
They are, on the left, West Country Class 34008 "Padstow" (nearest), Merchant Navy Class 35007 "Aberdeen Commonwealth" (furthest);

The engine I'm standing on was West Country Class 34047 "Callington".
skipped umbrella day in the item collab to go straight to pillows because i had an idea. this isn't the idea. HAHA fail char. this is just something that came out of it. it was originally a bunch of pillows stacked up and i laid on top of them but that didn't exactly work. i was wearing all white and i felt really awkward because i mean who wears all white. it was really odd. i had to take this in my parents room because there was much better lighting than in my room. anyway, this is what actually came out of it. i really like this. it looked awful in color, but in black and white it looks fine. yay for not total crap on my stream anymore even if it's all in black and white!

This is the FN Herstal "Forty Nine" pistol, so-called because it is available in .40 S&W and 9mm Luger calibers. It is a double action only, striker-fired system with restrike capability. That is, if a cartridge fails to fire, squeezing the trigger again will strike the primer a second time. The frame is polymer with steel reinforcements and the slide is stainless steel. The trigger pull is quite heavy to meet the requirements of certain law enforcement agencies. The pistol shipped with two 10-round magazines, but after the sunset of the Crime Bill a small number of 14-round, "law enforcement" marked magazines became available at modest cost.
This model has been replaced by the FNP series, which has an exposed hammer and can be fired single- or double action. The FNP also adds a .45 ACP caliber.

Pretty and wholesome blonde American film actress Peggy Dow (1928) could handle comedy and drama with equal finesse. After only nine films, she retired and is now known as a philanthropist, Peggy V. Helmerich.
After brief modelling and radio experience, Peggy Dow was spotted by a talent agent. In February 1949, she was cast in a TV show, and soon Universal offered her a seven-year contract. She made nine films, starting with the female lead opposite Scott Brady in the thriller Undertow (William Castle, 1949), as a vacationing schoolteacher who accidentally gets involved in a murder. She hit her peak when she co-starred as the lovely nurse Kelly in the classic farce Harvey (Henry Koster, 1950), with James Stewart as a man whose best friend is a pooka named Harvey, in the form of a six-foot, three-and-a-half-inch tall invisible rabbit. She also co-starred with Best Actor Oscar nominee Arthur Kennedy in the touching war drama Bright Victory (Mark Robson, 1951).
After just three years in the business, Peggy Dow retired in 1951 to marry Walter Helmerich III, an oil driller from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Gary Brumburgh at IMDb: "This promising 1950s Universal-International contract player had so much going for her - beauty, brains and talent - to go the distance, but she came up far short after deciding to retire for domestic life. (...) Despite such a promising Hollywood forecast, she never looked back and raised five sons in the process." The couple was married for 60 years, until he died in 2012. She became an active supporter of libraries and other charitable activities.

American industrial rockers Nine Inch Nails played a tiny show at North London's Scala venue as a warm up for this year's Reading and Leeds festivals. They played a mixed set from their back catalogue including fan favourites Piggy, Head Like a Hole and The Hand That Feeds although they omitted any tracks from their forthcoming eighth studio record Hesitation Marks.
Front man and main producer, singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist Trent Reznor got the tiny 1,000 capacity venue sweaty and heaving as he conducted the 2-hour music and light show, putting the club back into club show.
Nine Inch Nails are back folks. Be afraid.
Lichfield Guildhall - glass from the former great north transept window of Lichfield Cathedral by Betton & Evans of Shrewsbury 1813.
Figures of King Offa & King Stephen, part of a sequence of nine figures relating to the foundation and history of the Cathedral.
Between 1813 & c1880 the 9-light north transept window at Lichfield was glazed with a fine sequence of late Georgian (partially) enamel painted historical figures of kings & bishops (one row of nine). No photographs have so far been found to show how this appeared, however the window can be glimpsed in it's original form in a late Georgian watercolour now preserved in Lichfield's St Mary's Heritage Centre.
Betton & Evans of Shrewsbury were prolific in the first half of the nineteenth century in the the western midlands and parts of Wales and were signifcicant in crossing the transition from enamel painting back to more traditional pot-metal leaded windows (this example combines both approaches) Most of their compositions were either derived from old master paintings (Rubens etc) or geometric/heraldic work. Where they created new figurative images the drawing was often primitive and naive.
An exception to those rules is this magnificent series from Lichfield where another designer was employed for the 9 standing figure of this window (plus a later 18 for the corresponding south window). Martin Harrison (our greatest authority on 19th century glass) has identified the designer as John James Halls, a pupil of Henry Fuseli at the Royal Academy.
The painting is bold and vigorous, showing a remarkable freedom of brushwork combined with superb individual characterisation of the figures, making these panels some of the finest late Georgian glass to have survived. .
The glass was removed from the cathedral c1880 during Giles Gilbert Scott's restoration, when the late fifteenth century tracery was replaced with the current five lancets, in order to reinstate the original 13th century design of the north facade.. This dramatic alteration of the window's apertures rendered retention of the 1813 glazing virtually impossible, so it was replaced with the Clayton & Bell Tree of Jesse we see there today.
The dismantled window soon found a new home in the large north facing window of the main hall of Lichfield's Guildhall where it remains to this day. Of course it had to be extensively reconfigured to fit it's new setting, a five light window as opposed to nine; this entailed the nine figures being arranged as two rows of five (a new figure of Queen Victoria by a different workshop was added to fill the vacant space in the centre of the top row). Much of the architectural canopywork that formerly towered above each figure was lost in this process, though elements remain rather patchily worked into the three tracery lights above.
I hope eventually to attempt a digital reconstruction of the window in it's original setting using these images superimposed over the present south window of the cathedral (which is built to the same design as the former north window, prior to it's alteration by Scott)..
