Yeah, I got all "duded up" for New Years Eve, but ended up staying home for most of the night anyway. I'm still getting a big kick out of my little old guitar, which I bought at a thrift store probably 18 years ago for $17. It's been outa commission for perhaps a year with broken tuning pegs, a coupla missing bridge pins, and needless to say, broken strings. I was thinking maybe it was time to shop for a new guitar...but after playing a variety of guitars at two guitar shops, I didn't find anything under two hundred bucks that sounded good to me. So I repaired/upgraded my old guitar with Grover Rotomatic tuning pegs, Carrico EZ-Peg brass bridge pins, and new strings. It took a bit of nerve, and it seemed somehow very wrong to be using a power drill on a guitar even though I was being righteously careful...but the existing holes were all a tad too small to accomodate the new parts. Happily, everything came out perfect and it plays better than ever. I'm not a good player or anything...I just thrash away at it with enthusiasm, but I'm sure that's okay too. Everyone can't be a virtuoso. I haven't taken many "selfies" in recent years; probably took more when I was younger and better looking. Ah well, that's life, eh?

These are some portraits of two rascals that would not keep still.

Gathered around the fire pit on a chilly night in the Bywater at Sarah & Chadmo's...they're musicians, but almost everyone at this party is a musician. Earlier in the evening there was a puppet show. It's an eccentric but comfortable crowd o' folks, mostly everyone arrives via bicycle, and there are always lots of dogs running around. The food, the clothing, the music & entertainment, the wine grog...everything's homemade. So damn cool. 12-9-2006

At The Abbey bar; Stumps the Clown, Patrick on Mandolin, and Max playing washtub bass...they all look and sound like authentic folk musicians, but later in the evening...

the Saturn bar with Stumps, Max, Patrick, Fallon, and a coupla folks that I don't know their names. In my experience, some of the best times are had outside of a club, on the sidewalk, and there were many times in my past when I never even entered and had a great time. This event, however, was equally fun inside and out, and it was cool that one could easily change the scene by walking outside to socialize and partake of the sidewalk entertainment. 12-16-2006

At The Abbey bar in the French Quarter. Matt is the doorman, and although we had a bit of a photographic disagreement at the beginning, I've gotta respect the man for being flexible in his thinking...eventually, he even succumbed to being photographed at the request of his girlfriend Margaret. Thanks Matt! (And thanks to Stumps for being the negotiatier). 12-24-2006.

Technical: Still being plagued with focusing issues, damn!.

12-9-2006. Opening night; Vision/Revision photography show at the Contemporary Art Center. The show was presented by The New Orleans Photo Alliance as part of PhotoNOLA: A Month of Photography in New Orleans. Bryce Lankard, in the center, had something to do with the formation of the recent New Orleans Photo Alliance, and bringing this event to fruition. I've known Bryce for decades, but being somewhat of a loner I had no idea any of this was going on until opening night. I don't know the folks on either side of Bryce.
