i shot this with the Nikon Z7ii the 105mm f1.4 using the FTZ adaptor. I used the Focius Shift funtionaliity to shoot one set of images at f 1.4 and then a second set at f 14. I post processed both sets twice in capture NXD one at N exposure and then again at N- (2/3 stop) under. Vivid as the Picture cintrol setting in NX-D. Both times using 32 images which I assembled in Heicon Focus then did the final aesthetic editing in Photoshop using NiKcollection by DxO plugins.

I shot this in the Viñales valley in Cuba.
I got up 3 hours before the asscrack of dawn and walked up a mountain in white-out fog with my full camera kit that felt like the incline was between 85 and 89 degrees. It was not my most favorite of “hikes”. All because someone told someone who told someone who knew my fixer that there was this really cool view at sunrise.
It was was worth it. Just didn’t seem so as I was climbing and sliding at the time. Next time…. I’ll probably do it again and complain about it again then fall in love all over again.

From my most favorite Gig I have ever had was this trip to India.
I had just landed in Mumbai, Hawaii (two week gig), to LA, LA to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Mumbai. You know the direct route. Get picked up after several hours in customs hell explain why I have so much camera gear. Get out a little ride hard put a way wet. BAM car races straight from the airport and BAM i am in the middle of the Genish festival.

This is the "official" vinniev headshot of the Nebelung Fur Gremlin , Gianni J. Cat. (I will admit he is my favorite of the two) The reason for the apparent stillness of a this other highly energized ball of fur that is either in motion or taking a nap in between inhaling food or pouncing on the other Nebelung Fur Gremlin , Valentino J. Cat is that I have the Nebelung fur gremlin memorized with his kyptonite. Boar's Head Honey Maple Glazed Turkey. In it's presence the wild Nebelung fur gremlin is rendered helpless. Pro Tip: Never enter the wild wilderness of a living room commandeered by Nebelung fur gremlins unless you armed with this. Your life and safety may depend on it.

Post Cards from the vacation that is my life. the "I have been some remote placeless but....... " section
This is from my most recent trip to Myanmar. I traveled 36 hours of flying (not including layovers) then 16 hours by 4 wheel drive to travel 58 miles in to the mountains of Nagaland to attend the New Years festival.
There are approximately 95 Naga Tribes in Nagaland. They are a hunter gatherer / slash and burn culture. Up to 1985 they were headhunters and and practiced cannibalism. Which would give me pause if I was told they want me over for lunch. The New year's festival is in part a celebration to comrade the ending of those practices and the embracing of a more spiritual path.

Good thing I remember how to do portraits because I COMPLETLY BLEW IT SHOOTING THE DANCERS ACTUALLY DANCING ON THIS TRIP. AND I KNOW HOW TO SHOOT DANCERS DANCING.... I just forgot it.

shot with the Amazing Nikon D850, 105mm f1.4 lit by a lume cube with the small grid auto natural light portrait picture control. Westscott 30" 6-in-1 reflector as a flag. The D850 is the most impressive camera on earth! The 105 is the prettiest lens I have ever shot this is an example of the focus shift functionality of the camera.
I processed this in Capture NX-D, Picture control set to vivid. that was all the color enhancement that was done to the image. In Photoshop I used the spot healing tool to address some of the "dents" to the Strawberries that I created when I dropped them during the set up. ( really should have bought the second quart...) Nik pro contrast, and a curve to darken the edges a bit more.

I have a very large folder of "TO_DO" images spanning all the years I have been shooting.
I shot this whilst walking to dinner. ALWAYS carry a camera. Nothing worse than shooting a Cyberchrome. For me the most important aspect of any image is first the gesture of the image in conjunction with the timelessness of the image. Spontaneous moments that conspire in an instant to create moments you will alway remember events they are nothing more than an instant. Those are the ones that move me the most.

I took this image a few years ago. Jed Best was also at the meal. We were having lunch we had just spend a few hours smoking cigars and telling lies. What photographers of a certain aage do. So back to lunch, I was screwing around with the focus of the camera when jay turns to me and say" You gonna take the fucking picture or watch TV" I may have pressed the shutter but he took the picture. The impact that this man has had on me as an artist truly has no measure. When the film shoot wraps this weekend the first place I am going on Sunday is to Jay Maisel's studio to smoke cigars and tell lies.

This is from my most recent trip to Myanmar. I traveled 36 hours of flying (not including layovers) then 16 hours by 4 wheel drive to travel 58 miles in to the mountains of Nagaland to attend the New Years festival.
I woke the morning I took this shot with the thermometer in the place we were all staying reading 3 degrees Celsius (37.4 degrees Ferinheight) I had put a bottle of water on the window sill when I went to bed and it was solid when I woke at 6am.
Really the only thing I like cold Is beer and ice cream and I really don't like beer. So down the dirt road we went to find warm tea and a breakfast of noodles and soup. This is the moment that took me as I walked down the road.
My dear friend Kyaw Swa Min said it best "we had crappy weather, crappy beer, crappy food a crappy car, crappy roads and a really cramped and crappy room but it was one of the best times we've have ever had"
I would do it again in s heartbeat.

In a 10 day period I flew to SaltLake City, drove to Yellowstone, drove to Jackson Hole Wyoming, then to Moab then back to Salt Lake City then back to Moab then back to Salt lake City then flew to Los Angeles. I drove 2264 miles and spent 23 hours in a car. After that juggernaught I had a 21 hour turn around and flew to New York city for 7 days then back to Los Angeles (9 hour turn around and flew to Maine for a week.

Another shot taken during the recent Action Photography workshop with Tom Miles ( www.tmphoto.co.uk/ ) and three parkour experts.
Having been selected as one of 100 photographers to take part in the #Nikon100 Centenary #Nikonmeetups the day involved five seperate themed shoots around different locations in London. All in all it was a superbly organised event and I captured a wide variety of shots.

Practitioners aim to get from one point to another in a complex environment, without assistive equipment and in the fastest and most efficient way possible. Parkour includes running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, rolling, quadrupedal movement, and other movements as deemed most suitable for the situation. Parkour's development from military training gives it some aspects of a non-combative martial art.
Parkour is an activity that can be practised alone or with others and is usually—but not exclusively—carried out in urban spaces. Parkour involves seeing one's environment in a new way, and imagining the potential for navigating it by movement around, across, through, over and under its features.
Parkour was developed in France, primarily by Raymond Belle, and further by his son David and the latter's group of friends, the self-styled Yamakasi, during the late 1980s. The discipline was popularised in the late 1990s and 2000s through films, documentaries, and advertisements featuring the Yamakasi."

I have been some remote placeless but.......
This is from my most recent trip to Myanmar. I traveled 36 hours of flying (not including layovers) then 16 hours by 4 wheel drive to travel 58 miles in to the mountains of Nagaland to attend the New Years festival. This image was captured in a hut that was another two hour drive by 4 wheel drive.
Shot with the fabulous Z7 modified for Infrared 24-70mm f4 s series lens at 160iso. Post processed with Capture NXD and the NiK collection Silver Efex Pro in Photoshop CC

This is from my most recent trip to Myanmar. I traveled 36 hours of flying (not including layovers) then 16 hours by 4 wheel drive to travel 58 miles in to the mountains of Nagaland to attend the New Years festival.
There are approximately 95 Naga Tribes in Nagaland. They are a hunter gatherer / slash and burn culture. Up to 1985 they were headhunters and and practiced cannibalism. Which would give me pause if I was told they want me over for lunch. The New year's festival is in part a celebration to comrade the ending of those practices and the embracing of a more spiritual path.

Taking the new Studio NX software out for a spin!
The entire image was creatively edited in Studio NX using nothing but picture control (vivid) and control points. I only used Photoshop on this image to resize and change color spaces.

One of the core concepts of improvisational acting is the above quote. I studied acting for 17 years in undergraduate as well as graduate school.
Another core concept, this time from Tad Z. Dainelewski is the concept of hiding in the audience. When you are filming, be it still or motion, someone you want to create an environment in which the subject show the camera the someone they hide from the world.
This image is of the Guitar player Adel Nunes Castillo of Stepteto Habanero.
There is a powerful advantage to a camera that can focus at the speed of life and that is more silent than a breath held expectant and has a frame rat faster than your nervous system can register.
You can truly create a place when and where the spirt of the subject can hide in your camera.
There is no camera system that has a better or more powerful one. This image was was shot using highlight center metering.

I am building, for lack of a better description, a hard rive farm to augment my 98TB server. Sooooo as I go through the existing drives a found a rather large folder of "tO DO' files from my trips to Burma (Myanmar).
In this case a file aI thought I lost I found! Always except the gift that traveling at the speed of life. What get's me when I look at the meta data is I hand held this at a 30 fo a sec. Vibration Reaction is an amazing thing...

This from my one of my trips in 2005 to Myanmar. Soooo.... I shot this in Yangon just before one of my journeys to the outskirts of the absolute middle of nowhere and traveling back to the 19th century.
Josef Sude, one of my strongest visual photographic influences, had a practice of after developing the negatives he shhot he'd wait six months before he would print the images from those negatives. His reasoning was "so that he could see the image with eyes a new." Which is why I do not delete anything. Hard drives are cheap. So on rainy days (usually on Sundays) I go back and look at the past for things I may have missed.
I hand held this image at a 1/15 of a second. So we know vibration reduction works.... and I must have been on my first cup of coffee.
Shot with the D200 enhanced color IR modification the 28-300mm Nikkor (AKA "The Street Sweeper") my when in doubt go to lens.

More form the archives....As I work on my FOTOmentor award show "Post Cards From the Vaction that is my Life" I get to relive the best moments. This image of an Alaskan Fjord is a two image handheld pain shot from a zodiac. I was on assignment for American Photo to shoot a piece on curse lines and what they offer. I know I know I have a tough job. So i really wasn't paying attention to the bird I was more about paying attention to not falling into the water.
