The Argus Seventy-five has a twin lens reflex design with a fixed-focus lens. The Argus Seventy-five produces 6x6 images and takes 620 film no longer available and was manufactured from 1953 to 1958.

I frequently, for lack of a better word, get "accused" of being in publications that I have never been in. This is image is the one I am frequently been told was there favorite National Geographic cover. I have always wanted to be a National Geographic photographer....

Again the story behind the image is different than the image portrays. I was at a used camel lot (I'm not making that up) photographing camels. I saw this man I looked at him, held my camera up which is the universal sign for "can I take a picture of you?" he waved is hand in a "no" gesture. As I turned away a large male camel and I were face to face. The Male camel was in "ready to rut" mode and proceeded to slime me with the foulest smelling slime/goo/slobber/goo I have had the misfortune to ever smell. Let alone be coated with. Apparently female camels find this 'scent" attractive. This was the Bedouin who had just turned me down for a photograph's camel who has now just confused me for a girl camel.e rushes over shoos the horny beast away and looks at me now covered in camel goo, which is dripping off my nose, glasses, camera. Trying to stifle a laugh, he gives me a nod that is now "ok" to take his picture. This is tat picture. I had to be hosed down from head to toe before I could get back on the bus.

This image was captured during my American Photo Mentor Trek workshop to Egypt. with a Nikon D2x camera at 200iso with a 70-210 mm VR II lens using the Nikon electronic file format (.Nef) Shot on Lexar 16 gigabyte Flash media.

File was post processed using capture NX software. All additional post work was done in Photoshop CC using Nik Collection by DxO Color Efex Pro plugins.

Final file is stored and scaled using Perfect Resize (Genuine Fractals.)

This is from my most recent trip to Myanmar. Just before the pandemic ended my travel plans for awhile... I traveled 36 hours of flying (not including layovers) then 16 hours by 4 wheel drive to travel 58 miles in to the mountains of Nagaland to attend the New Years festival. This image was captured whilst standing in the shade of one hut watching the man in the other hut watching what all the commotion was from the visitors that drove two hour drive by 4 wheel drive to see his hut.

Another shot taken during the recent #Nikon100 London #Nikonmeetups.

Having been selected as one of 100 photographers to take part in the Nikon Centenary celebrations the day involved five seperate themed shoots around different locations in London. All in all it was a superbly organised event and I captured a wide variety of shots, my favourite of which I'll upload over the new few days.

This shot is one of my favourites from the Action Photography workshop with Tom Miles ( www.tmphoto.co.uk/ ) and three parkour experts. This setup was actually the 'finale' of the shoot and involved tempting pigeons down to land with bread and then the parkour runner jumped off the bicycle stand. No pigeons were harmed and it certainly created some dramatic images.

For the last 7 years I've been shooting with my old true friend Nikon D600 but it was time for an upgrade. @Nikonusa were so kind to send me new Nikon Z7 with a couple of lenses and I created this photograph with it. It's been an absolute pleasure to work with my new equipment and I can't thank Nikon enough for this opportunity!

Ansel Adams was famous for never taking a picture of something he could not drive to. He went so far as to have a platform built atop of the roof of his car. I know these two statements to be true because when I was photographing the San Francisco Presidio project for a year and a half, I did portraits of Ed Wayburn. Ansel’s driver back in the day. But that tale is for another time.

I took the trolley, or one just like it, that is the subject of this image to shoot the view from the top of one of the six hills of Lisboa, specifically Miradouro das Portas do Sol. Which means "the view of the door of the sun. Well with a name like that AND there is a trolley to it.... I'm good.

So I get to to the top and there is a cafe with a bar and it serves snacks and has tables. I am really good. I order a pingato, a "snack" and a 10yr Graham's tawny port and grab a chair, as I look up the street i see that i have found the stage. So I set up my tripod and camera plant my self and wait for a trolley in the fog. Based on prior experience why I never take pictures of trolleys in Portugal that I can't find the perfect stage picture sit, have a snack, a coffee and an aged port whilst waiting for the players to arrive. I learn from the masters

From the "I taught my first time out Backyard Fine Art Class via Zoom" collection. A four camera Zoom shoot done as a one man band. Up at 5am every morning. Nine different setups, Focus shift capture (which this is) using the 105mm.f2.8 S Micor Nikkor. If Forrest Gump owned this lens he say "IF Jenny was a lens she' be this lens". Holy tack sharp glass batman!

But what a blast I had!! What a bunch to troopers the class was talk about commitment!

I can't wait to teach this class again (the up at BMNT I could do without) but watching the students get it was something I live for.

This is an image from my last trip to Cuba. This is another image of the dancer Indira. It is a joy to work with Cuban dancers.

I don’t speak a lick of Spanish, unless you count knowing how to ask where the rest room is and how to order my favorite rum. For me photography has always been about slowing down to the speed of life.

Unbeknownst to Indira I matched my breath rhythm to hers and then slowly lowered the pace of our breaths. Somewhere between here and there this is where we found ourselves.

shooitng the Z9 in silent mode with a remote trigger allows for a place when the camera is not I th way. This is an extremely powerful tool because the shutter click gives up the most that the camera has taken a picture. Without that click, that simple little sound, the subject frequently forgets that there is a camera taking a picture.

From my most recent trip to Cuba

I shot this image whilst walking down the mountain to see the sunrise over the Vignales valley in Cuba. It was a 2 mile walk with an 800 meter almost 90 degree upward "hike" with two cameras, four lenses and a tripod in 80 degree heat (and the sun had not risen yet). I was soaked in sweat and not caffeinated at all at this point of the journey down the mountain.

In a moment of pause (to catch my breath) I stopped and just took in the wonder of the calm of the moment. In that momentary pause this image took me.

Another portrait of model Andrea, one of my favourites from the recent #Nikon100 London #NikonMeetups fashion shoot at a fabulous location in West London ( www.shootfactory.co.uk/uk-locations/randolph-london-w9/ ).

My shots might differ from other people's as I didn't use the studio lights provided as my hotshoe was damaged and I couldn't fit the IR commander unit. As a result I had to shoot using only the available natural light, something that has added a bit of extra drama to the shots (and created a bit of a headache in post-production thanks to the extreme contrast......).

Having been selected as one of 100 photographers to take part in the Nikon Centenary celebrations the day involved five seperate themed shoots around different locations in London. All in all it was a superbly organised event and I captured a wide variety of shots, some in genres I've not much experience.

I am in the process of keywording and captioning my images for my new website.

I now know what purgatory feels like.

Light travel an inch every two minutes.

Walking the streets of Yangon, The sun was just starting to set, I saw the sunlight hit a window across the street and hit the street where this woman was sitting selling fruit. I did a quick calculation an between 15 and 25 minutes would put the light where I needed it to be.

This is a color capture captured with a Nikon D70. This is also one of my most favorite images

I was just walking down the street and being taken by a one moment of another beings life, when a little boy was playing hide and seek and zipped around the corner to see if he was being followed. He did not see me because he thought I was too busy seeing something else. He took me alrifgt. I slowed down to the peed of life and let him hide in my camera where he took the shot by taking me.

SERVER TRAVELING : The Fine Art of Time Travel

This is a misplaced image. It was processed to be worked on. But wound up in a folder labeled FLOWERS_MAYBE_2_DO. I do remember freezing my ass off being rained on and it was one those rare moments at tunnel view where no one was there because they were shiner than I was. There was a brief moment of a break in the clouds. the sun hit the water fall and then the water really fell from the sky. I was complaining to my self at the the time. I can promise you I will never complain again . I sooooo look forward to being able to be somewhere else as I am sure we all do than the post stamp of a piece of land that is my current lil'slice of heaven.

Another infrared image from my latest trip to Cuba working on my Cuba: Turning the Last Page of 1962 book project . This image was shot with a Nikon Z7 modified by lifepixel.com to shoot infrared and the the 24-120mm with the FTZ adaptor. This other corner of the street where I stayed for this trip. I was on my way to caffeinate and I almost was a hood ornament. Once again proving I shoot before I look.

I am going to go a little way out to come back to the point of the thought that goes with the image.

I shot this image in a place you can no longer go, The Rahkine region of Myanmar. I was on assignment for American Photo magazine, We were in a boat on the Irrawaddy river during Monsoon season we were hit with a burst of rain so strong that we frantically had to get to shore so we would not sink, we ran to first hut we could find where a family was huddled in the same situation we were.

The composer Ryuichi Sakamoto passed away on the day I “re-found” this image in one of the, come to find out, Numerous “2_DO” folders I have created over the years that I have forgotten about creating. I happened to be listening to Ryuicihi Sakamoto’s album Coda, a piano treatment of the soundtrack he composed for the movie Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence.

Track 13, Last Regrets, and perhaps my favorite track on the album, had just started as news of Mr. Sakamoto’s passing came up as an alert. The first record I ever owned was Meet the Beatles. The cover just blew m away at the tender age of 6. I drove my parents crazy about only wanting to wear turtle necks and I particularly drove my father nuts by always wanting to have him play the album. Repeatedly. But I digress….

I’ve been fascinated with the light play of the portraits of the Beatles in the cover art. I believe the music I listen to influences the quality of the images I post process. I believe that we should acquire knowledge not as absolutes but as grains of thought that find each other through the course of human events that coalesce in to a beach of creativity.

Art is long. Life is short was Ryuichi Sakamoto’s favorite quote. Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous.

Shot this image in class yesterday at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre's Backyard Fine Art class I am teaching this week. It is a near focus (which means that the nearest object is at the very edge of the beginning of focus for the 85mm f1.8 Nikkor S lens. It was shot using a Nikon Z9 in focus shift mode. One pass at f 1.8 and one pass at f5.6, which is critical aperture for this lens. I use two white balance presets, cloudy and incandescent . Cloudy produced a warmer image incandescent a cooler image. I also shot set one stop unde. I then stacked the images in Photoshop (I used 20 out of the 75 I shot per) mixed this cocktail up, shaken not stirred ansd this is the outcome.

I photographed this eye-catching, award winning Allford Hall Monaghan Morris designed building at 61 Oxford Street on my way to last months #Nikon100 #London #NikonMeetups. Being early morning the sunshine was on the short Eastern facing facade so it made the most of the curvaceous form.

From the AHMM website : "61 Oxford Street aims to harmonise the disparate architectural styles that currently characterise east Oxford Street by carefully replacing some local buildings of note with a prominent corner beacon. With its focus on glass – the surface of choice for retailers – the scheme hones in on the area’s one and only shared material quality, and, in undulating that glass, nods to the history of London’s special glazed shopfronts.

An eight-storey volume is articulated with a hierarchy of curved ‘oriel’ or bay windows to unify ground and upper floors and establish the building’s place both on the street and in the sky. The ‘wave length’ of the vertical undulation shortens at the upper levels and combines with horizontal banding to distinguish the retail (the four lower levels, including lower-ground) from the office (the two middle levels) and residential (the upper two levels).

Views, amenity and daylight are maximised for office and residential occupants through set-backs, external terraces and internal planning."

Ambedo (noun): A kind of melancholic trance in which you become completely absorbed in vivid sensory details—raindrops skittering down a window, tall trees leaning in the wind, clouds of cream swirling in your coffee—briefly soaking in the experience of being alive, an act that is done purely for its own sake.

THis trip was bitter sweet s I have sad at the beginning. I photographed this woman walking down the street in 2018. I photographed her on the trip in 2022. It was a pure moment of Ambedo.

An island of light still lingering in the ever encroaching sea of darkness.

Something I just do, or I should say I do now and for a long time, is when I am in the field I always take a picture out the window of where I am staying. It's something my mentor, Jay Maisel alays does when he travels. I thought at the time "well why not" and for a long tmefelt a little silly doing it for doing it's sake. Then As I got my head out of my butt about it I really started to see the world. When I didn't do it I'd spend the day tinking about what I saw and thought I'l be sure to do it tommorw but the image never came back and all I had of the prior morning was a cyberchrome.

So this is a shot on the first day out my window playing with all my new toys in cuba befor my foirst cup of coffee. I have seen this view over the course of 15 years and I am amazed that the image shows up everytime and I was simi-conscious enough to let it take me.

There is a powerful advantage to a camera that can focus at the speed of life and that is more silent than a breath held expectant. You can truly create a place when the spirt of the subject can hide in your camera.
