Aka Cakerider: Take me to the Birthday Cake. And pronto, if you please :-)

Roberta (her friends called her Roby) was late (as usual, as her friends would say), but she couldn't be late on this special day. She had to reach the stratosphere over Florida on May 10th, not only to deliver Birthday flowers, but also to cause a decent UFO sighting. Boy, was she excited. This was the first time ever that she had been tasked with causing a UFO sighting. Her head spun as she imagined the headlines of the leading newspapers. "Manned UFO spotted over Florida!" "UFO or Cake? Florida mystery sighting reported!" "2020 - The Year We Finally Made Cake!" She chose the fastest vehicle from the Starrider Pool - a classy single-seater, the Starrider PDN (short for Pastel de Nata) Strawberry Edition. It was her favourite Starrider, faster than the light. She jumped on board, revved up the engine, and headed towards Earth at top speed, 150 wuph (Warp units per hour), when 50 wuph were allowed. But so what, she had to reach Florida on time! As she entered the Warp tunnel, she heard a suspicious "Wiiiiuuu, wiiiuuu!!!" behind her. Oh no! Could that be the Warp Cops? They couldn't catch her, not today, pleeaase!!! She quickly had to cook up an excuse (and she would always get away with everything, her friends said)... When she pointed her right antenna backwards, she could see the blue lights flashing, as the siren's wailing got louder and louder.... Would she reach her destination on time?

Happy Birthday, dear ironicdream!

It was a foggy morning here today and I couldn’t resist trying to capture some of the mood. This shot was looking down my driveway where a glimpse of the first rays of dawn were attempting to break the gloom.

I wish you a happy (Macro|Monochrome) Monday and a great week.

In late autumn you value a break in the incessant rains, so you can admire the remaining landscape colors. In this photo, I'm walking home down the hill with my little dog, admiring the view into Vancouver Island, Canada.

Macro Monday: #Pasta

This is a specimen of the very rare midget jellyfish, the Conchiferia Bifunia. Its corrugated, shell-shaped body has a maximum width of 4 cm / 1,57 inches, and a height of 1,5 cm / 0,59 inches, its total height with tentacles varies between 4,5 cm / 1,77 inches and 6 cm / 2,36 inches (outstreched). It is found all around the world in light sauce habitats, preferably tomato, soy, or coconut milk based. The Conchiferia Bifunia subsists mostly on spices, herbs and vegetables.

Jellyfish made of Italian Conchiglie Rigate and Thai Bifun rice noodles. Unfortunately, I spent half of Sunday yesterday with trying to get it right with the "wrong" type of pasta (Trottole; and, of course, there is no "wrong" type of pasta) as jellyfish "body", instead of going for the Conchiglie, which had been my first choice, right away, so the photo, taken late last night, didn't turn out as sharp as I had hoped it would, because I ran out of time, but it's still OK, I think. The Bifun noodles are very long, so I broke off short pieces, and stuck them to the inside of the Conchiglie with modeling clay. To make the jellyfish hover underwater, I had drilled a small hole through the top of its "body" with a gimlet, then pulled a thread of sewing yarn through it (glued to the inside with modeling clay as well; later I removed / retouched the thread with the healing brush in PS), attached the whole thing to a small wooden skewer, and hung it over the rim of a large, bulbous Brandy balloon filled with water which I'd tinted blue with food colouring. I used uncooked pasta, because especially the super thin Bifun noodles softened in no time by just being exposed to water and then immediately lost their twisted shapes which simulated (moving) tentacles so nicely, and just dangled about rather unattractively instead. Processed in Luminar 3 (small and large details, HSL), ON1 Photo Raw, and Analog Efex Pro (vignette).

A Happy Macro Monday, Everyone, and have a pleasant week ahead, dear Flickr friends!

A multiple-exposure shot of a photo on the window of a hair salon transformed into photo art through hours of detailed tweaks with a range of software, filters and manual edits.

Really enjoyed pushing my processing skills a bit further and discovering some new techniques along the way.

Hopefully, it doesn't come across as being too busy or over-the-top.

Taraxacum officinale, the common dandelion (often simply called "dandelion"), is a flowering herbaceous perennial plant of the family Asteraceae (Compositae).

It can be found growing in temperate regions of the world, in lawns, on roadsides, on disturbed banks and shores of water ways, and other areas with moist soils. T. officinale is considered a weed, especially in lawns and along roadsides, but it is sometimes used as a medical herb and in food preparation. Common dandelion is well known for its yellow flower heads that turn into round balls of silver tufted fruits that disperse in the wind. These balls are called "blowballs"[5] or "clocks" in both British and American English. (Wikipedia)

¡me da exactamente igual!

Gotta love the bales. Drove past them the other day and they're still there. May be visiting them again soon.

Well, it's not the longest possible ride (or walk) because this is the shorter part of the three-part collonades that surround the so-called Kollonadenhof (Collonade Courtyard) that is a part of Berlin's Museumsinsel building complex, a UNESCO Heritage site, at Berlin's historical center.

The title is inspired by the bike, of course, and if you look closely, you can also see a person disappearing between the columns. This is a well-frequented, photogenic spot (right behind the Berlin Cathedral) in an area replete with photographic subjects, so I had to wait a little until the scene was (almost) clear – except for the person walking out of the scene, of course ;)

The image also lent itself to some sliding. When we arrived there, the blue hour was just setting in and lights in the collonades were on but I didn't like the yellowish hue. Since I was also torn between colour and monochrome, I processed both in Photoshop (in NIK's respective tools Color and Silver Efex), and then layered the colour version with the black and white version which helped reduce the unpleasant yellow tone and brought in some nice pinkish notes. Mere HSL sliding didn't achieve this but just added a "paleness" to the image that I didn't like too much.

HSS, Everyone, and have a nice new week ahead!
