Bought myself a new phone. Had to save really hard for this one though. The moment I picked it out from the box, what struck me was the elegance of the build quality and materials used. Armstrong's quote perfectly describes it.
P.S. It's a Nexus 4.
They hang them up in the air and in the sun so they dry out. After tenderising the octopus, it can be used in any recipe. They will leave it out to dry in the sun for at least a day before cooking it.
This method of drying is one that has been used for centuries, when they discovered that it was better to dry them before grilling the xtapodi, but had nowhere to place them to dry them out, except their lines. Fishermen probably hung them over the ships ropes to dry out.
Having such a strong sun during the summer in Greece, it was the easiest and cheapest method.
Long story short, I saw this Yashica EZ F521 with a cult following a few year ago and wanted to try it out. After some research on the Internet, I finally came across the original manufacturer in China. So I sent them an email to see if I could obtain a couple of product samples. To my surprise, they responded and were willing to sell me a couple, one blue color and the other black. When the samples arrived, I bought a Holga fisheye lens from Amazon and tried to shoehorn the lens onto the black "Yashica". It worked but vignetted very heavily. After its novelty died out, the camera sit in my closet. I happened to find it yesterday and took it out for a walk in Alviso today. Will show a few sample shots later.
So here I am presenting the Digital Holga.
"Sun" Shot taken at BhojTal (Upper Lake), Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. According to the local folklore, Bhojtal is said to have been built by the Parmara Raja Bhoj during his tenure as a king of Malwa (1005–1055). He is also said to have established the city of Bhopal (also named after him, then as Bhojpal) to secure the eastern frontier of his kingdom. There is a legend why they built the lake. Once king Bhoj suffered from skin disease and all Vaidyas (Doctor in English) failed to cure him. Then, one day a saint told the king to build a tank to combine 365 tributaries and then have a bath in it to wipe out the skin disease. Bhoj called upon his engineers to build up a huge tank. They spotted a place near river Betwa, which was 32 km away from Bhopal. It was found that it has only 359 tributaries. A Gond Commander Kalia fulfilled this shortage. He then gave the address of an invisible river. After merging the tributaries of this river the number 365 was completed. More at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhojtal
Today I went for a walk during lunch hour in Alviso. I decided to walk toward the railroad bridge and see if I would find anything interesting there. Yes indeed, I found bridge art or a better word, graffiti. I took this shot with my Nexus 4 using HDR mode. I then went back to the office and tone mapped it with Photomatix Pro.
On an unsealed road. On the way to Owaka, South Island, New Zealand. This road seemed to go on forever and I was convinced I had knackered the hire car.
March 28th 2015. LG Nexus 4 cameraphone.
I've been going to the beach a lot this week. Not to soak in the sun, but just to absorb some of the serenity.
Just a few forks ready for the lunchtime rush at the exhibition. Fortunately as an exhibitor we got to have lunch earlier than all the delegates.
