Dill and Honeysuckle have never really been buds, but lately, they are hanging together, and sleep warm close together! It is SO sweet to see this! I love it!

After nurturing a dozen caterpillars and observing them pupate a girl persuades the last one to fly away.

I love birds at this age . . . feet widespread with a low center of gravity, they are still a bit rickety and unsure of themselves. So endearing.

Newly moulted Cicada found in one of the oldest cemeteries in Toronto, Canada.

"Cicadas are essentially tropical and subtropical insects, but with few species in desert regions of the world. There are at least 2,500 species in 347 genera world-wide (2008). Most show strong affinities to adjacent countries, as one would expect from insects that do not fly long distances; but a few have relatives in far-flung portions of the globe. Some of the faunal exchanges (such as in the genus Tibicen) appear to date from more than 10 million years ago when world temperatures were much higher than now, because these genera are northern, across the Bering Strait dividing North America from Asia. Some other genera appear to be southern, spread across what is now vast expanses of ocean and polar ice cap (as in the flightless leafhopper family Myerslopiidae, known only from New Zealand and Chile). Such ancient faunas date back more than 100 million years, when the southern continents were connected into one gigantic, tropical land mass. If verified, such widespread genera would give clear evidence of the antiquity of these cicada genera."

When I made my new classic flash figure (not posted at the time) I took a look at my old jay garrick and was not satisfied. So this happened.

Should I spray it chrome silver or should I paint it? And should the wings be yellow or gold? I want it to look kind of classic

I have lots of pictures of these common butterflies, but I never get tired of seeing them, because they always seem exotic to me -- maybe because where I grew up (Montana) they were a rare sight (although we had lots of their mutual mimic, the Viceroy butterfly). This one is resting up for its first flight on California Lilac (Ceanothus).

Beloved by the freshwater entomology community and anglers alike, the stoneflies (Plecoptera) are an incredible group of insects that often go unnoticed. They are one of few taxa that defy the typical latitudinal diversity gradient of increasing diversity approaching the equator - these bugs love cold water, the colder the better, so they increase in diversity at latitudes approaching the poles (Palma and Figueroa 2008). Many stoneflies are highly sensitive to water pollution, so their presence can be indicative of a healthy water body. These winter stoneflies were seen in abundance along the Winooski river on a sunny spring day.

A newly married couple honeymooned at Walt Disney World.

Back in October of 1983, EPCOT Center was just completing its first year of operation and everything still seemed brand new. Horizons had just opened the day before and Walter Cronkite was hosting the Time Machines through Spaceship Earth. You made World Showcase dining reservations at a WorldKey kiosk talking and seeing a reservationists on a TV screen. Figment and Dreamfinder sang their way into our hearts and we marveled at the huge screen showing a space shuttle launch in the World of Motion. It was the future world that could be…and was in 1983.

On Monday, October 1st, 2012 while Epcot celebrates 30 years, my wife and I will be starting our 30th year together riding the first ride we rode together at Walt Disney World…Spaceship Earth.
