Canada's newly minted National Bird:
Gray jays are year-round residents of Canada — remaining in the northern forest when the majority of loons and Canada geese have flown south and even snowy owls have descended from the Arctic — and they are astonishingly good at making the most of even the coldest, darkest winter months. These tough birds are unique for nesting as early as February, while the forests are still thick with snow, and have been recorded incubating eggs in snowstorms and at temperatures as cold as -30 C.
They are important to Indigenous Peoples. The common moniker “whiskey jack” has nothing to do with the grain-based alcohols, but is rather an anglicization of the Cree Wisakedjak and similar variations used by nations in the Algonquian language family, which makes the gray jay Canada’s only bird commonly referred to by a traditional Indigenous name.
Ray saw a young robin in the garden at the feeder, too young to have developed his red breast. By the time I managed to see him, he had his full livery but was still quite fluffy in parts, especially on this breezy day.

Newly Fledged
Young Glossy Ibis closely following its parent on one of its very first flights. It did great flying but the landing was more like an uncontrolled crash.
Many of the young ibis were actively branching at the heronry in Ocean City on 6/24/2019, but this was one of the first to actual make a short flight

Newly restored former B&O depot in Brownstown, Indiana is a welcome sight as J780 works west with a slug set for power.

Accipiter nisus
The ducklings had just hatched and the mother was protecting them while daddy went off looking for food.
Landscapes, especially forests aren't static. The lighting changes within minutes, weather can change in hours and what can seem static decay and move over time. With my project now running over five years you may even see changes in my photo-stream.

Actually, I wanted to take a picture of the impressing stork as he beautified his nest so carefully. Only when I looked through my photos at home, I discovered the little guy next to mama's beak.

Found this little guy chasing anything that moved, including my hand, which he readily jumped onto when I reached toward him. I've seen baby anoles before but never one this young.

Dill and Honeysuckle have never really been buds, but lately, they are hanging together, and sleep warm close together! It is SO sweet to see this! I love it!
