This was taken for the monthly challenge for the 12 Months For Dogs Group.

Riley says "My New Year's Resolution for 2012 is to cut down on the number of treats I have each day. I am going to limit myself to just one. Here I am with my daily treat."
Beginning of Week 3 of my Healthier Lifestyle, involving more exercise and fresh air and here's where I am at.
Day 1 - no exercise (exhausted)
Day 2 - marathon walk, including a pit stop for 2 of the most delicious caesars I've ever drank
Day 3 -another marathon walk, including antiquing & a caesar (not as noteworthy as the previous days
Day 4 - water aerobics (could feel muscles, I didn't even know existed)
Day 5 - dragged my tired body to swim lengths - swam 7 lengths & the pool was evacuated due to vomit (not mine)
Day 6 - desperately needed a break
Day 7 - craved the exercise, but couldn't find the time
Having a lot of trouble keeping up the 'exercise 6 days a week' plan. I managed 4 days this week, one shy of last week. Partially as I think I overdid the exercise early in the week and partially cause my life is busy and I am resisting the 6 am workout.
I do think the exercise is starting to show though. I seems to me that my love handles are slowly disappearing. This could all be in my imagination though. I am also now craving exercise and am not satisfied unless I get it.
Oh and I managed to cut out the late night eating in favour of cocoa.
Happy New Year to everyone!!
This wasn't the photo I wanted to use for the first photo this year..I wanted to go out in the woods right as the sun was coming up today...but the temperature is below zero right now and windy..so...haha.. :P
Last year I found the idea to write down every good thing that happens in the year and then read them on new years eve. The original idea was to put them in a jar..I just wrote them down in a notebook instead..
but it was incredible reading the list last night and seeing all the cool things that had happened through the year!! I had an amazing year that I didn't expect...and I'm excited now to see what 2014 will hold.
Here's to 2014...hope everyone has a amazing year!!
This new year, I'm not going to take vitamins & supplements that I don't really need. Oh yeah... Glucosamine, Gluko Guard, Omega 3, Saw Palmetto, Zinc, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, etc., etc.
No, I don't take all that stuff, but at one time I did, because the healer said so.
When the monthly tab ran over $100-, I quit the naturalist, cut the pill bill in half, and bought a new lens ;-) Have you heard of the controversial Danish study claiming that most supplements are useless, and some even harmful?
Anyhow, this has been my experience, and it's not a recommendation for anyone else.
HMM and happy new year!
Dave: How are the New Year's Resolutions coming along?
Eva: All done.
Dave: But the page is blank.
Eva: And that's the way it's going to stay.
Dave: Really? I thought New Years was a time for us to take stock of where we are at and plan some improvements for the new year.
Eva: Maybe for you. But us Brittanys are pretty full of BA.
Dave: Do you mean BS?
Eva: Nope. Definitely BA. Baseline Awesomeness.
Dave: Wow, I've never heard that one before.
Eva: Then maybe you're resolution should be to learn a bit more about how BA us Brittanys are.
Dave: Touche.
Eva: You're welcome. Now, if you're done jabbering about things that don't need improvement, it's time for a nap.
----------
Eva wasn't a big fan of the whole new year's resolution thing. She believes that perfection should not be tinkered with.
I would like to find a balance between WORK and LIFE....where is the happy medium??

The Coney Island Polar Bear Club is the oldest winter bathing organization in the United States, whose members regularly take polar bear plunges in the winters. The club was founded by famed health advocate Bernarr McFadden in 1903.
The club began using the event to raise funds for Special Olympics starting in 2005, and Camp Sunshine in 2007. In 2018, the club decided to support local groups and charities and began partnering with the Alliance for Coney Island to raise funds for local nonprofit organizations.
Members swim in the Atlantic Ocean at Coney Island, New York, United States every Sunday from November through April. Every New Year's Day, the Club is joined by participants from around the country, who partake in an annual swim. The 2005 event had 300 participants and 6000 onlookers. The Chief Polar Bear blows a conch shell to gather the swimmers before they run into the water.
The club was mentioned in popular culture. It is mentioned on the season three episode of Seinfeld, The Pez Dispenser In the episode Kramer informs Jerry that he has joined the club, claiming it to be 'invigorating'. It was also publicized on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, in a taped segment by Dan Bakkedahl about the effects of global warming on the club in faux-nature documentary style.

The MERMAID PARADE specifically was founded in 1983 with 3 goals: it brings mythology to life for local residents who live on streets named Mermaid and Neptune ; it creates self-esteem in a district that is often disregarded as “entertainment”; and it lets artistic New Yorkers find self-expression in public
Unlike most parades, this one has no ethnic, religious, or commercial aims. It’s a major New York holiday invented by artists! An American version of the summer-solstice celebration

They say a new year is like a new book with blank pages, and that we are supposed to put words on those pages…
My biggest dream is that all of us are able to write on that book that our dreams or wishes are not just dreams or wishes anymore…

01/52 - 52 Weeks of 2018
"From Where I Stant"
A foot selfie... something I don't think I've done before. I've tried 52 Weeks projects in the past and have failed on my previous 2 attempts, so I am hoping this year will be a little bit more successful. In fact, I'm hoping to be a little more successful with a lot of things this year...
INGREDIENTS:
1 container (6 oz) Yoplait® Light Fat Free strawberry yogurt
1/2 cup frozen (thawed) reduced-fat whipped topping
4 strawberries, cut in half
DIRECTIONS:
1. Place mini paper baking cup in each of 8 mini muffin cups. Spoon slightly less than 2 tablespoons yogurt into each cup.
2. Top each with small dollop of whipped topping. Cover with foil or plastic wrap. Freeze at least 1 hour. Top with strawberry half just before serving.
I've had this photo in my "To Post" folder for a long time, waiting for what I thought would be an appropriate opportunity to share it with my friends on Flickr. But I've wondered to myself many times: what, or when, would be a good opportunity to share a photograph of tobacco plants??? Yes, this is a field of nearly-mature tobacco plants, photographed last Summer during a work assignment along the Virginia/North Carolina border -- the very heart of the tobacco producing region of North America. I took this photo early in the morning, as mist and low clouds were being driven off the fields by the heat of the rising Sun. It was quite a striking scene and caught my "photographer's eye" immediately.
However, I must confess that tobacco has been more than just the object of my photographic interest. I used to smoke cigarettes. Not many of them, mind you, and not very frequently. But I really enjoyed smoking them. I usually smoked a single cigarette, while I was finalizing preparations of my observatory telescope before beginning a night of asteroid hunting. As the telescope moved through its pre-programmed alignment routine, I'd lay in the hammock I had hanging next to the telescope and blow puffs of smoke into the star-studded sky. Smoking that single cigarette each night, maybe a few nights each week, was one of the most pleasurable experiences I've ever enjoyed. At most, I'd smoke a pack of cigarettes in a month; in fact, by the time I smoked the last few in the pack they were pretty stale. To make a long story short, it's been a long time since I've smoked, mainly because it's been a long time since I hunted asteroids. But the intoxicating aroma of a good cigarette (Camel Golds are my favourites) still excites my senses. When I was driving back to the Raleigh-Durham airport (both the names of well-known cigarette brands) last Summer, I passed thru a small town that had cigarette factory. I pulled off the highway, rolled down the windows, and basked in the pungent aroma of the freshly harvested tobacco leaves which were hanging in the nearby drying barns.
So why did I decide to post this photo, now? Well, January is the month of New Years resolutions, and I know that there are many folks out there who have made resolutions to stop smoking. I have no illusions about cigarettes -- I know they are dangerous and terribly addictive. So I hope that my smoker friends who are determined to quit this year will think of this image when they are tempted to smoke, with its dark, gloomy clouds, rather than thinking of the rugged cowboys or super-chic fashion models which appear so frequently in cigarette propaganda.

Shot for CC New Year's Resolution and for Project 52 - Introduce yourself and my 365 New Beginnings. I need to incorporate more physical activity in my life (read as "lose a few pounds") LOL. My wonderful sister and her husband bought these walking sticks for us for Christmas and I love them. We love to walk and to snow-shoe, and while we can dress for the cold - the wind will keep us indoors if it's too cold. These walking sticks, when used correctly can increase our caloric burn by 30-46%. I know it's working because after using them twice in three days my arms felt it when I picked up my camera this afternoon. My goal is to get in at least three 30-45 minute walks a week with these and our snow shoes in the winter and our bicycles come spring.
INGREDIENTS:
1 container (6 oz) Yoplait® Light Fat Free red raspberry yogurt
1/3 cup raspberry liqueur
18 chocolate cordial cups
18 raspberries
DIRECTIONS:
1. In small bowl, mix yogurt and raspberry liqueur.
2. Spoon into cordial cups. Top each with raspberry.
Last year on Boxing Day I was around 90/91kgs (I'm 6ft tall with a medium build so fat but not obese) and decided to stop being a lazy shit and start controlling what I eat again.
From Boxing day onwards, I stopped the double desserts and started counting my calories again everyday. Thankfully I still have a fast metabolism so I didn't have to change what I eat, just how much I actually consume (steak and icecream are consumed several times a week still ;D ). This morning I weighed in at 83.6 which I'm very proud of considering how long it's been since I started my diet.
Like the 52 week project, my diet is something I plan to continue throughout the year and not get lazy in again!

Macro Monday 1/4/2010 - New Years Resolutions
Like a lot of people my New Years Resolution this year (or at least one of them) is to lose weight. My diet won't be quite this drastic :P but I did start one today and I plan to start using the gym membership I have been paying for but not using haha.
Gee, it sure is sexy to stand in the middle of A1A on South Beach!
