Style isn't just for shoes.

New Year's Resolution #3: Develop my "style" as a photographer. I want people to know who shot the images the moment they see my photographs, the way I can tell with others. I don't mind having a different style for portrait/wedding sessions than I do for personal work, but I definitely want to work on my "style."

Do any of you have ways that you've made a certain "style" of photography your own? I'd love to hear them!

MY BLOG!

I'm pleased at 76 to have an interview next Wednesday for a writing job here in Denver. I think age can be an advantage when it comes to fine wine and writing. Experience, sagacity and a taste for lyricism may mature over the years. Age discrimination is sadly prevalent.

Resolved

Shall we be even more bold this next year?

More brave and adventurous than last year?

Take more chances?

Risk more?

Shoot for the moon?

Bet the ranch?

Is this the year to go for glory?

Seize the day, the month, the actual year?

Carpe diem, mensis, annum?

Can we ask Lady Luck to visit?

Smile upon us?

End her long holiday elsewhere

and pay attention to our hopes?

Our wishes?

Our dreams?

Or is it better to go it alone?

Impertinent?

Cheeky and audacious to carve out our own good fortune?

Give the Lady leave?

Write her out of the story?

Shall we plot a tale of great adventure?

Leave nothing to chance?

Shall we grab life by the horns?

Of course we shall

We will step boldly

Unbowed

Resolute

Determined

Resilient

And Lady Luck can come along for the ride

If she wishes

I wanted to get this posted tonight before I left to celebrate NYE photographer-style so I don't have time to write exactly what I had wanted to say. But the gist of it is........

THANK YOU!!!!!! xoxo

I don't usually make NY resolutions, but one I will make is that although I won't be doing another 365 any time soon, I will continue to take pictures and post on Flickr, and will continue to participate in silly things like Bench Monday and Facedown Tuesday, and I look forward to checking out your streams!!! Happy new year and I wish you all the best in 2013!!

Happy New Year Bench Monday!!

Resolution 2 - To travel more.

In 2009 I would like to travel as often as I can. It doesn't have to be to some exotic, far away places, it doesn't even have to be to places I've never been to.. Wherever I go, I'm sure I'll see something new and exciting to capture and share with my family and friends.

It is time for new year’s resolutions. This year’s resolution was to minimize drama in my life, resulting in less stress. I learned that it is impossible to change people, but you have control of your reaction to the things that bother you about fellow humans. You can love and tolerate more, forgive, ignore, walk away and even end things; all are your decisions. It is still a work in progress, but The Lord has helped me. 2018’s resolution will be to exercise more. I love the afterwards feeling, but it is challenging to make myself do it! Thank God I have a great workout buddy. She is reliable and competitive and that is awesome! So, bring it on!

One week of my new healthy living regime done.

I almost met my goals this week, but not quite.

Here is what I did:

Day #1 - walk

Day #2 - walk

Day #3 - day of rest

Day #4 - airport hiking hauling a rather large cat

Day #5 - water aerobics

Day #6 - water aerobics

Day #7 - day of error - no time

Aside from this, being back into my old routine, I found it hard to always eat at reasonable times, so I caught myself eating dinner late on 3 of these nights. I'd like to eliminate the late night eating.

And how do I feel after week one? Way more energized.

Hand lettered illustration based on a quote by Karen Lamb.

For this Sunday's "New Year's Resolution" theme at the threesixtyfive group.

I have a long list of things I need to improve on myself, but the most important thing is to read the bible more often. Lately, I have been abandoning it. His Word is truly spiritually thirst-quenching, a huge comfort and the source for hope when you are in need. Without it, I am empty.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105

Washing my eyes to see

Your majesty

To be still and know

That You're in this place

Please let me stay and rest

Ah, it feels so much better now.

First 2011 resolution completed during the first week of the year. I feel like I've cleaned my head too, it's refreshing.

So the past 2 week have gone a little sideways on the exercise regime.

I overdid it and aggravated an old injury. And I had a house guest.

I know. Excuses.

I need to get back on track, but I also need time for people in my life and can't be constantly aggravating old injuries.

So the new plan is to shoot for 4 days of exercise a week with a field of error of +/- 1.

Wish me luck!

In past years I have resolved not to buy so many books … but sadly it has not happened. In the calendar year 2012 I was given nine books and bought a further one hundred and seventy-five at a cost of £1165.87 - averaging £6.66 per paid for book. Some were as little as 40pence, others considerably more. (A few I have even read - many I know I shall never read.)

My daughter suggested that I stack them up and see if the pile was as tall as I am thus "creating an artpiece that described my New Year's Resolution," as described in the New Year Resolution group. I attempted this but a pile of sixty-seven randomly chosen books, some thick some thin, reached my chin and I feared stepping away from it lest it fall.

The hereios of the We're Here! group have paid a visit to the New Year Resolutions group today at the suggestion of wizardjks.

Stuck for an idea for your daily 365 shot? Try the hereios of the We're Here! group for inspiration :)

I meant to put this up last week - I wonder how many are still exercising in week 2?

Just a quick message and a preview of what’s to come…

Happy New Year everyone.

Wishing all of you photographers, graphic designers, illustrators, artists, film makers, etc., a good new year of creative work and shooting. Also wishing all the models (females and males) whom posed for the photographers, a good new year of bookings. And wishing Flickr staff a good new year at their office, and a trouble free smooth running of the website.

Just wanted to say that on the 3rd January, I will be having a tooth taken out at the dentist’s, so I may be feeling down for a few days after that. This, plus my best friend coming to stay at mine for the New Year, mean I may not be online much, but will try to keep up on Flickr.

The above image is a preview of what’s coming. I’ve got photo-shoots of this lady, photos of a military tanks re-enactment, rally sports in Wales, and a Land Rover Show done, but not yet prepared for uploading. Plus not seen on the preview image, also couple of other basketball games, and a Pride march in Cardiff.

I’ll be selecting, post-processing, and preparing them for uploading in due course. And I hope during 2024, I’ll be doing some more photo-shoots as much as I can, as well as graphic design work.

However I have decided to spend the whole of 2024 studying how to run a business, learning accounting, business laws, etc., with the aim of preparing a business plan to start my own freelance business hopefully from 2025 onwards.

So, while I have to do studying and planning, as well as doing more photography and graphic design, I’ll try to keep up with Flickr as much as I can. I so much enjoy seeing your photos and images, so many of them amaze me, and I want to say how good they are, but it worries me that I may spend less time here in order to keep up with my studies and planning, to a point my audience, views, new followers, may struggle.

But I hope to keep my fans and followers entertained with more of my photos. I still upload them every week, to give more time for more people to view them.

Well, here’s wishing you all a GREAT Happy New Year.

Keep up the good work all of you girls and guys, with your camera, pen, pencil, or paintbrush, whatever you create, keep up the good work.

This is MY bam year!! Last year was a crazy but good year for me. In the beginning of last year I was a lost soul and had some personal issues that made me into a person I didn't like.

Last year I finally got pregnant in February. I was excited to finally become a mother again... I carried my baby for 5 weeks and was sooo ready to be a mom again. I lost my baby and sorta lost my mind. That day after going to the emergency room something in me snapped... something that really made me finally grow up! Something made me want to crawl in a whole and never come out again and something made me want to embrace my faith and let God do His work. I chose God. So far my husband and I have taken a break from actually trying to have a baby but we've learned that it's in His hands and we shouldn't feel like we have to rush it. We both are still very young and have a lifetime together.

Last year I had many resolutions and actually fufilled some of them... one was to loose weight and a lot of it! So far I've made it to my goal weight plus a little extra... I feel great!

I'm not embarrased to look at my self in the mirror anymore which is a huge deal for me! I've always been really hard on myself and how I look on the outside... I don't want to be like that anymore! So that's one thing I want to work out with myself this year. To be more confident in myself!

I want to be more athletic! I want to start getting into something like bike riding, roller blading, swimming... anything just something that I can do outdoors besides working out at home to pilates dvds lol

I want to be more serious in my photography... I want to one day open my own photography studio here at my home. My husband has been slowly but surely converting one of our 3 car garages into a studio. It's still a huge work in progress, money is tight right now especially since I only work 1 day a week. I've saved up some money and am planning on getting my lights hopefully by next month. I know either way I will continue learning and my camera will never leave my side :)

Sorry for the super long description! Hope you all have a wonderful rest of your week! Xxoo!

I'm an avid reader, but my reading consists almost entirely of fiction. One of my resolutions for the coming year is to read more non-fiction, particularly biographies and history. So, this picture shows a few of the books on my shelf which I intend to read in the coming months. They include biographies of John Adams, Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O'Connor, and Washington Post publisher Katherine Graham; a history of the constitutional convention; a book of essays about the tv series the Gilmore Girls and feminism; and a history of color. These ought to keep me busy!

My new year's resolution this year is to practise my arithmetic. I am very bad with numbers, but I need to use mental arithmetic at work.... Wish me luck!

Have any of you made any resolutions this year?

Emo Sixpack Workout - Body transformation after a week of workout

Due to Corona, an accident in summer of 2021, my body has lost some of its shape and fitness and I'm feeling fat. :( I have already decided in winter of 2021 that I want to start to train again to get more definition in my body.

Then I got my boost of Corona vaccinationand had to wait a bit with my workout.

To have a suitable weekly routine with rests, or variety of workouts, I started the workout on Monday, January 03, 2022.

This picture shows me after a week of training.

Beginning of Week 3 of my Healthier Lifestyle, involving more exercise and fresh air and here's where I am at.

Day 1 - no exercise (exhausted)

Day 2 - marathon walk, including a pit stop for 2 of the most delicious caesars I've ever drank

Day 3 -another marathon walk, including antiquing & a caesar (not as noteworthy as the previous days

Day 4 - water aerobics (could feel muscles, I didn't even know existed)

Day 5 - dragged my tired body to swim lengths - swam 7 lengths & the pool was evacuated due to vomit (not mine)

Day 6 - desperately needed a break

Day 7 - craved the exercise, but couldn't find the time

Having a lot of trouble keeping up the 'exercise 6 days a week' plan. I managed 4 days this week, one shy of last week. Partially as I think I overdid the exercise early in the week and partially cause my life is busy and I am resisting the 6 am workout.

I do think the exercise is starting to show though. I seems to me that my love handles are slowly disappearing. This could all be in my imagination though. I am also now craving exercise and am not satisfied unless I get it.

Oh and I managed to cut out the late night eating in favour of cocoa.

I'm not one to make New Year's Resolutions BUT, 2012 was not my best year! Those who know me best and my love of cycling know how disappointing this year was not riding my bike once! It can only get better from here and I do believe by the time spri g comes and all the salt has been washed away I will have the go ahead to ride and I have a lot of catching up to do!!!

Happy New Year to everyone!!

This wasn't the photo I wanted to use for the first photo this year..I wanted to go out in the woods right as the sun was coming up today...but the temperature is below zero right now and windy..so...haha.. :P

Last year I found the idea to write down every good thing that happens in the year and then read them on new years eve. The original idea was to put them in a jar..I just wrote them down in a notebook instead..

but it was incredible reading the list last night and seeing all the cool things that had happened through the year!! I had an amazing year that I didn't expect...and I'm excited now to see what 2014 will hold.

Here's to 2014...hope everyone has a amazing year!!

A black and white image of 2023.

This new year, I'm not going to take vitamins & supplements that I don't really need. Oh yeah... Glucosamine, Gluko Guard, Omega 3, Saw Palmetto, Zinc, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, etc., etc.

No, I don't take all that stuff, but at one time I did, because the healer said so.

When the monthly tab ran over $100-, I quit the naturalist, cut the pill bill in half, and bought a new lens ;-) Have you heard of the controversial Danish study claiming that most supplements are useless, and some even harmful?

Anyhow, this has been my experience, and it's not a recommendation for anyone else.

HMM and happy new year!

Dave: How are the New Year's Resolutions coming along?

Eva: All done.

Dave: But the page is blank.

Eva: And that's the way it's going to stay.

Dave: Really? I thought New Years was a time for us to take stock of where we are at and plan some improvements for the new year.

Eva: Maybe for you. But us Brittanys are pretty full of BA.

Dave: Do you mean BS?

Eva: Nope. Definitely BA. Baseline Awesomeness.

Dave: Wow, I've never heard that one before.

Eva: Then maybe you're resolution should be to learn a bit more about how BA us Brittanys are.

Dave: Touche.

Eva: You're welcome. Now, if you're done jabbering about things that don't need improvement, it's time for a nap.

----------

Eva wasn't a big fan of the whole new year's resolution thing. She believes that perfection should not be tinkered with.

Happy New Year! This year my resolution is to start a photo project. I've been bored with my work lately, I feel like I only create images for clients. And while I love creating art for others, I definitely need a good kick in the pants to help me out of this funk, so I can get back on track and start making personal images that I find interesting. Above all else, this year I want to try new things, grow as a photographer, and create images I am proud of.

I'll admit I'm a procrastinator, so in order to force myself to accomplish my goal, I will need a deadline. I've decided that a 52 weeks project will be the best way to help me focus and see it through until the end. I will post at least one photo by Sunday of each week of this year. I don't want to set too many silly rules up front for weekly themes and such. I want to make this year a photographic journey. I'm not exactly sure where I'll end up or even who or where I will shoot. I do intend to focus on portraiture and I want all the images I create to be personal. I'm sure I'll end up with a fair amount of self portraits, but I'd love to photograph as many different people as I possibly can. I've never attempted anything like this before and it's kind of scary, yet exciting! So here we go, week one…

The Coney Island Polar Bear Club is the oldest winter bathing organization in the United States, whose members regularly take polar bear plunges in the winters. The club was founded by famed health advocate Bernarr McFadden in 1903.

Members swim in the Atlantic Ocean at Coney Island, New York, United States every Sunday from November through April. Every New Year's Day, the Club is joined by participants from around the country, who partake in an annual swim. The 2005 event had 300 participants and 6000 onlookers. The Chief Polar Bear blows a conch shell to gather the swimmers before they run into the water.

The club was mentioned in popular culture. It is mentioned on the season three episode of Seinfeld, The Pez Dispenser In the episode Kramer informs Jerry that he has joined the club, claiming it to be 'invigorating'. It was also publicized on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, in a taped segment by Dan Bakkedahl about the effects of global warming on the club in faux-nature documentary style.

Mermaid Parade

The MERMAID PARADE specifically was founded in 1983 with 3 goals: it brings mythology to life for local residents who live on streets named Mermaid and Neptune ; it creates self-esteem in a district that is often disregarded as “entertainment”; and it lets artistic New Yorkers find self-expression in public

Unlike most parades, this one has no ethnic, religious, or commercial aims. It’s a major New York holiday invented by artists! An American version of the summer-solstice celebration
