Boats in the harbour at St. Bride's, Placentia Bay. There's still some ice in the harbour, but spring's on its way.

This boat's called Fiddler's Green IV -- it brought to mind the old song:

FIDDLER'S GREEN

(John Connolly)

As I walked by the dockside one evening so rare

To view the still waters and take the salt air

I heard an old fisherman singing this song

O take me away boys my time is not long

Wrap me up in me oilskins and jumper

No more on the docks I'll be seen

Just tell me old shipmates

I'm taking a trip, mates

And I'll see them someday in Fiddler's Green

Now Fiddler's Green is a place I've heard tell

Where fishermen go when they don't go to Hell

Where the weather is fair and the dolphins do play

And the cold coast of Greenland is far, far away

The sky's always clear and there's never a gale

And the fish jump on board with a flip of their tail

You can lie at your leisure, there's no work to do

And the skipper's below making tea for the crew

And when you're in port and the long trip is through

There's pubs and there's clubs, and there's lassies there too

The girls are all pretty and the beer is all free

And there's bottles of rum hanging from every tree

I don't want a harp or a halo, not me

Just give me a breeze and a good rolling sea

And I'll play me old squeezebox as we sail along

With the wind in the rigging to sing me this song

Wrap me up in me oilskins and jumper

No more on the docks I'll be seen

Just tell me old shipmates I'm takin' a trip, mates

And I'll see you someday in Fiddler's Green

Ferryland (about an hour south of St. John's) is the location of the Colony of Avalon, established by George Calvert, Lord Baltimore, in 1621. The site is being explored by archaeologists who have found over a million artifacts to date, including gold rings, Portuguese ceramics and many other fascinating items. Guided tours are available from the interpretation centre.

We've still got snow and plenty of it -- more on the way tomorrow! I have to confess that I really like this shot. View On Black

Fishing boat in the harbour at Cupids, NL.

Finally unpacked!

A summer afternoon in Salvage, Bonavista Bay.

The harbour at Champneys West, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland.

Two Jacks Nik's Place on lower Haight Street. Always with the cool artwork and frontage.

I was walking on my way up lower Haight to go visit Glass Key Photo. I've never been in. It's a camera & photography store in SF. So, how can these two things be?

Many of the other camera/photography retail stores and labs have closed: Calumet, Wolf, Photographers' Supply, and others.

"Britain has been transformed in the last 12 years under Labour" is the stock phrase of ministers like Lord Adonis & Ms Harperson. Yes, but not as they'd have you believe. On the 10am Radio 2 news, Nov,17th, 2009, Angela Rippon of the Alzheimers Society pointed out many nurses & doctors have NOT been trained in looking after patients with dementia & nobody ensures they have enough to eat or drink. Nurses just note food/drink refused to cover their backsides. This means patients spend too much time in hospital after being admitted for relatively trivial things like falls, the lack of food/drink hinders recovery, they get MRSA & die. Labour's baby, the NHS is exterminating large numbers of older (but previously healthy) people (many loyal Labour voters) who survived the efforts of Hitler's Germany to kill them in WW2! ...NewLab have been in for 12 years, so no-one can't blame the Tories for this. P.S. The 2002 Fiesta in the foreground is one of the last to be built at Dagenham: one of many iconic vehicle factories to close under NewLab (e.g. Peugeot, MG-Rover, ERF, LDV) putting Labour voters on the dole & easy prey for BNP in one of their heartlands east of London! New Labour hate the over 80s (remember the anti-war pensioner they ejected from their annual conference?) as they consider them "racist", "homophobic" & resistant to NuLab's changes & are on record saying so.

Ironically it was "old people" who kept voting labour in the 1980s, before Labour became trendy & lots of them who die of MRSA were generous Labour Party members: that's why they were in NHS hospitals, not private ones, DOH!!!

Just a snapshot really, but one that has sentimental value because my grandparents used to live here. Taken in August; I wish I had seen it with a dusting of snow this October!

This is an OOC JPEG, all I did was re-size and USM a little bit (maybe 28/1.5) to fight against the anti-aliasing filter on the sensor.

The Sony 20mm f/2.8 pancake lens is really strong at close-focus images like this. No issue with the high-key background. Detail and sharpness is fantastic.

So, I stopped into Glass Key and met the owner, Matt. He asked if I used to use New Lab... Well, yes. Yes, I did. He remembered me from at least 5 years ago!

I decided to underexpose by one stop to make sure the leaves wouldn't be too blurred (but I didn't request push processing). Somehow the colors seem lackluster. I have to realize that color film is less forgiving than black and white...

Dear dude/dudette somewhere in the East Bay,

Please return the calls from the nice employees at newlab. They have been trying to reach you for several months now. You have a roll of my negatives. I got yours (cool stuff btw, some nice cross-processed holga action), and I brought them back to my lab since obviously I have no use for them. You could at least return the favor, yeah?
