New Rochelle, NY circa 2013
This is where I and my brothers grew up with my grandparents and parents up until about 1972. These photos, taken in 2013, show the huge addition of more plantingd and shrubbery around the house ... When we were children, the lawns were mosly empty of such things. Also, I didn't take photos from the back of the house as the rear lot has been sold and another home built on that property now. The beautiful terrace and rose garden my grandfather built is long gone too.

H.E. Archbishop Elpidophoros attended the 1st Annual Archdiocesan District Servant Leadership Awards at The GreenTree Country Club in New Rochelle, NY.
On June 6, 2023, the Archdiocesan District of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America hosted its first ever “Servant Leadership Awards Banquet." Over 700 clergy and lay people gathered together with incredible enthusiasm to honor one adult and one young adult from each parish in the district for exemplary service to the Church.
"We are called to serve and to lead as He did, and the most poignant example is that of the Good Shepherd, Who guides and protects His flock, and only enters into the sheepfold when all the sheep are safely in. This is leadership and service that is based in sacrificial love. No desire for glory or praise. Just loving concern and care for others. Those we recognize this evening are being celebrated for the wonderful gifts of service and ministry they bring to our Church and communities," said His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros in the Archpastoral Address.
The Archdiocesan District thanks the co-chairs for the event, Father Nicholas Anctil and Christina Balidis, who masterfully organized a beautiful start to a new annual tradition.

Rap group Brand Nubian’s presence on the rap scene during the late 1980’s added conscious rap to another level. Groups and Emcees like Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, KRS-One, and Paris made listeners aware of their African and political roots at time when Hip-Hop was still undergoing its presence in mainstream America.
Emcees Grand Puba, Lord Jamar, Sadat X, DJ Alamo, and DJ Sincere hailed from New Rochelle, New York and formed when Puba’s former group Masters of Ceremony broke up. In 1989 the group released their debut album “One For All” which spawned the hits “One For All,” “Slow Down,” and “Wake Up.” On the group’s second disc “In God We Trust,” Puba and DJ Alamo left the group and Jamar, Sadat, and Sincere took their music more serious and asked producer Diamond D to produce one of Brand Nubian’s landmark classic’s “Punks Jump Up and Get Beat Down.” This album also showcased how the guys would talk about their involvement in Islam and the 5 Percent Nation as well social issues that were affecting the black community.
6 albums later, members of Brand Nubian have developed and performed as solo artists, yet keeping the group out performing and recording. The guys just recently performed their monumental “In God We Trust” at the famed Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, New York with Grand Puba. The guys sat down with interviewer Brian Pace and reflect on the album and their career.
