So last night a few of us traveled an hour north in search of a remote location absent of any light pollution so we could view the Aurora Borealis. Low and behold the ion levels weren't as high as expected so I was out of luck. After 4 long cold hours, nothing was observed. I did get this beautiful shot though.

This trail loops around an area of slickrock where there are numerous potholes. These basins in the sandstone retain water after storms. The trail offers great views of The Needles in the distance. The trailhead is located along the Big Spring Overlook road in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, Utah, near the end of the road. The trail informs visitors about the little shrimp that thrive in the potholes of the slickrock when they are full of water.

This little cutie is a Banded Mangrove Snake, they are native to southeast Asia and they are mildly venomous. Unlike many of it's venomous cousins, this snake has rear fangs and not fangs towards the front of the mouth which means it really has to tag with intent to kill to inject venom. It's also, gratefully, brightly colored with those yellow bands so it's easy to spot. To be blunt, this one isn't nearly that much of a threat. :D This one, especially, since it's in a locked enclosure at the Bronx Zoo. © 2012-Current.
