Veterans registering for the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic. The event is the worlds largest learn to ski, adaptive winter sports rehabilitative event for U.S. military service Veterans. The pledge of the Clinic is to motivate Veterans with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic amputations, visual impairments, certain neurological problems and other disabilities to live life to the fullest by experiencing Miracles on a Mountainside. The clinic is taking place in Snowmass, Colorado from March 25-30.

Life After Injury – Disabled Veterans Experience Adaptive Sports!
VA’s newest national program, the Summer Sports Clinic promotes rehabilitation of body and spirit by teaching summer sporting activities to Veterans with significant physical or psychological impairments. The Clinic offers such sports as surfing, sailing, kayaking, track and field, and cycling to over 100 Veterans who are newly injured from amputations, traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder and other neurological disorders, all benefitting from the therapeutic environment offered at the Clinic. Si empieza a coagularse, el interior de la arteria puede taponarse. Este taponamiento puede volverse inestable y explotar, causando coágulos de sangre que desencadenen un infarto cerebral. Lo investigadores están desarrollando nuevos modos para identificar estas zonas taponadas antes de que exploten para que puedan ser tratadas disminuyendo el riesgo de infarto.
La arteria carótida se ha estrechado a 4 mm de diámetro en la zona del trombo, en comparación con los 8 mm justo por debajo. Esto se considera como de riesgo moderado. Las imágenes se obtienen combinando digitalmente dos técnicas, la tomografía computarizada o escáner y el PET que utiliza partículas radiactivas para señalar el trombo.

Sometimes a picture has the power to turn fate around:
In August 2009, I began visiting urban colonies in the city of Bhopal, central India, to document the severe illnesses faced by children as a result of contaminated water. As a consequence to the 1984 tragedy, around 100,000 people are now chronically ill from the effects of the gas leak, while tainted drinking water has affected thousands more.
Toxic waste – buried around the former factory – has penetrated the underground aquifers, harming the health of nearby dwellers. As a grim result, children are increasingly faced by severe disorders. Living with his family in a rundown shack made of bare soil and cow dung, one such victim is Sachin, now 20, and suffering from leg paralysis.
On a fateful day, during one of my regular visits to his home, heavy rain began to fall. His youngest sister, Poonam, then 6, was revelling in the rain to curb the scorching summer heat.
I started taking pictures immediately.
A frame from that propitious moment was later assigned numerous recognitions, including a 5000 USD grant from ‘The Photographers Giving Back Awards’ - in Sweden - to implement a long-term plan for the wellbeing of Poonam, 11 in 2014, and designed to assist her family overcome extreme poverty.
Born ‘unlucky’, with a tiny sixth toe on each foot, her father superstitiously believed she brought misfortune upon their lives.
Today, Poonam dreams of becoming a teacher, like the ones practicing in her small private school, a short walk away from the family’s newly-built home – made of solid bricks. Along with her sister Jyoti, 12, she regularly attends lessons. (Year 5 Elementary in 2014-2015)
I have witnessed the passion that is moving this family along, and how a single possibility for change was able to spark in them such a vibrant enthusiasm for life.
Poonam’s fairytale is far from over: time after time, I intend to witness her blossoming into a teenager, an emancipated woman, and later into a loving wife and mother.
my brother suffers with Neuroacanthocytosis it is a very rare disorder that causes major disability. Some of the symptoms are progressive muscle weakness, progressive cognitive loss, chorea (involuntary twisting movements of the body), and acanthocytosis (spiked red blood cells associated with several inherited neurological disorders) at the beginning of his illness he was told it was all in his head and he was attention seeking, it was not until his symptoms progressed did they start believing he was really ill. He got his diagnoses 6 years later

National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic
March 28 – April 2, 2010 Snowmass Village, Colorado.
This event is the world leader in promoting rehabilitation by instructing Veterans with disabilities in adaptive Alpine and Nordic skiing, and introducing them to a number of other adaptive recreational activities and sports. For many newly injured Veterans, including many injured in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Clinic offers their first experience in winter sports and gives them the inspiration to take their rehabilitation to a higher level. A boy suffering from a severe neurological disorder is being treated with speech therapy inside Chingari Trust Rehabilitation Centre, a local NGO caring for disabled children near the abandoned Union Carbide (now DOW Chemical) industrial complex in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, site of the infamous 1984 gas tragedy. The poisonous cloud that enveloped Bhopal left everlasting consequences that today continue to consume people's lives.
