Here are photos from our monthly meeting of the Mill Valley Community Action Network (MVCAN) on December 3, 2017. MVCAN is an all-volunteer group of Marin residents who support American values and democracy. I joined this local political group in 2017, to resist the conservative takeover of our government and the Trump regime.
For this meeting, our guest speaker was Ben Wessel, Deputy Political Director at NextGen and an expert on community outreach and grassroots organizing. He told us how progressives won recent elections in Virginia by reaching out to young voters.
We then discussed as a group lessons learned in 2017, and what we hoped to achieve in 2018. We started with table discussions on those points, then wrote our individual goals on post-it notes. MVCAN team leaders then gave updates on what their groups accomplished this year and planned to do next year.
As our Events Team leader, I talked about the impact of the MVCAN Anniversary we produced last month at the Throckmorton Theatre, and how it celebrated people who took political action this year, as well as raised funds for our cause and engaged more folks to join forces with us.
I like being part of a community of dedicated citizens who share my values. Together, we can more effectively promote liberty and justice, as well as resist the Trump regime. Join your neighbors to keep democracy alive!
