26.12.22; the second Boxing Day since I started bus spotting 9 years ago that I had part of the day free to spot some of NCT's famed Boxing Day services... and they didn't run any. C'mon, even in the pandemic year of 2020 they ran. The ONE bus I saw all day, which was a Skylink, had its photo ruined by a prat in a brown 'new' Fiat 500, which as automobiles go is pretty much a crime against cars.

The trams were running on some level, at a frequency that looked as if it was being made up as they went along; gaps were randomly ranging from 12 to 25 minutes and some only going as far as Shipstone Street. Still, they were running, and by some stroke of luck I saw both advert liveried Incentros within a few minutes of each other.

The second was CN28 liveried 212, on the short stretch between Bramcote Lane and Cator Lane stops, on its way to the Shipstone Street and then the depot. It's barely noticeable, but the nearest camera which performs the role of a mirror has lost its blue advert colour and is in standard NET green.

When this woman agreed to marry me thirty-two years ago, it was nothing short of a miracle…

uh, for me, not so much for her.

We struggled a little at first. Neither of us had ever really struggled with life like that before. Adjusting from the cocoon of the college world to the weight of everyday life was a little heavy. The adjustment to married life surprised us both. Getting used to noticing we were poor was…hmmm, not fun. Spending all our time working to establish careers and get out from under our bills was wearing and left each of us way less of ourselves to give to the other. Time for things we wanted to do became scarce and way more valuable. The difficulties were bigger than we thought they would be. Putting the other ahead of ourselves in priority was trickier than we thought. Welcome to real life. Fortunately, neither one of us ever thought of our relationship as anything but permanent. It looks like there is a good chance that it might actually stick. Check with us tomorrow on that one. But it was thirty-two years ago today in a little chapel in Denver, Colorado that she promised to stay with me. There were a couple of witnesses. So she had to.

Some of those memories have come back to us both recently. Our son became engaged and will marry next year. As it turns out, we adore her as much as he does. It is really fun being around that level of happiness.

This is my favorite photograph of Cheri…ever. Sure, I wish it was in dramatic light with a good camera and utilized the photography knowledge that all my friends on Flickr have taught me in the last year or so. However, no errors were made in taking this photo. The good stuff I have learned recently was not an option then. It is still my favorite photo. I took it on a cruise ship in the Caribbean in the middle of the night while we were walking around the deck. It may have been with a disposable camera. Hard to say. I cannot even remember lunch yesterday. For years before, we feared this was the kind of trip that would always be just beyond our budget, but we did it. Yep, I have been holding out on you. There are more photos than the ones you have already seen.

This photo was taken nearly six years after we were married. For the first time, we were finally making more money than we were spending. But life is never neat, orderly or predictable. Our first pregnancy had ended the year before in a miscarriage. It had been an emotionally charged and very painful ordeal for both of us. Humans are curious and resilient creatures. We decided to take the chance again. It was the smartest, best thing that we ever did. Ever.

She stood there in white by the railing so I could take her picture. I did not have any idea how valuable that photo would be to me. The eyes and hearts of every male within sight of her that night had pretty much melted. I noticed. She did not. This photographic evidence of that truth still melts me. She was two months pregnant with our son and we both knew it. Nobody else knew. It was a very happy time.

Whenever I see this photo, I still say, “wow.” It is okay if you think so too and fine if you do not. I was there and cannot be swayed. It is hard to believe that anyone would stutter over a one-syllable word.

But, wow.

Traditional Net Fishing in Puerto Rico

Fishing net on the beach in Luquillo. These nets are very large and are stretched up and down the beach prior to stowing after fishing. The fishermen use traditional techniques: nets, rowboat, and as many people as they can get to help.

Not the greatest stitch, the sun was really glaring down. Good enough I suppose. October 2011

I'm a big fog and dev lover, but that morning was amazing. Like all the world's spiders been working whole the night knitting they nets. I saw them all over even over laws and every grass. The truth is that previous night we did have frost and morning sun has turned it to stong dev. Anyway the landscape was like from fairy tale.

Just a little fun with www.dumpr.net and Photoshop. I know this is not the best quality, it was a quick and dirty experiment. I'm sure someone out there can do much better with a little more time spent on it.

I wonder if I'm the first to do this using the dumpr.net gallery image ??
