Handy to have - the top of the needle is split so the thread can be pushed down into the eye. A great alternative to squinting it through sideways.

Using an expired suturing set from my doctoring days, I tried my rusty techniques on this slice of bacon. The final result was not bad, considering...
... the meaning?
perhaps the fashion symbol in Milan...
perhaps the Milan Underground which colors are yellow, green and red...
perhaps the Sforza snake, the symbol of Milan....
perhaps all this in this awesome majestic sculpture placed in front of Ferrovie Nord station in Milan.... a happy touch of color...
Needle, Thread and Knot (Italian: Ago, Filo e Nodo) is a public artwork in two parts by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen in Piazzale Cadorna, Milan, Italy.
Commissioned by the City of Milan as part of the renovations of the Milan Cadorna railway station, and unveiled in February 2000, the sculpture is made of stainless steel and reinforced plastic, painted with polyester gelcoat and polyurethane enamel. The "knot" is placed in the middle of a fountain on the middle of the square while the sewing needle is on the footpath in front of the train station. According to the artists the needle pulling thread through fabric is a metaphor for a train going through a tunnel. The thread wrapped around a needle also "paraphrased" the city emblem of a snake coiled around a sword. According to the City of Milan it is also meant as a tribute to Milan's influence in the fashion industry and the three thread colours (red, green, yellow) represent the lines of the Milan Metro.

Imagine, if you will, Gilbert Baker, creating the rainbow flag, putting together blue and orange, and pausing with his needlework as if the colours clash, then putting the colours in their right place. Gilbert Baker died Friday of last week at the age of 65 in New York (NYT, Obits, Matthew Haag). Colours sourced from my collection of international soccer jerseys, Lao Royal Blue and Dutch Orange. Needle and pink thread from my wife Averill's sewing basket.

This is a metallic thread through a sewing needle. It's taken in natural light with a little LED highlight. It's cropped to 16x9 but otherwise is straight out of the camera.
