Close to the village of Arsha in the Kazbegi region lies the Arsha Waterfall, about five kilometers from Stepantsminda Kazbegi. The hike to the waterfall is considered easy and typically takes three to four hours. The trail is unpaved but well-trodden, surrounded by lush meadows, and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The waterfall is one of the lesser-known natural attractions in the area, contributing to its untouched and serene atmosphere. A bit further along is the Toti Waterfall, accessible via a steep trail that passes above the Arsha Waterfall. This waterfall offers spectacular panoramic views and is an ideal spot for a picnic. Visitors can enjoy the tranquility, the breathtaking nature, and even take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water. For adventure seekers, it's possible to continue the hike to the nearby Gergeti Glacier, making the journey a full-day excursion.
The journey to the waterfall close to the village of Arsha in the Kazbegi region is a true challenge, yet also a breathtaking experience.

The red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris), which had disappeared from mainland Portugal for centuries, is on its way back and there are reports of its presence in the north and center of the country, according to a biologist from Aveiro University.
The red squirrel expanded from Galicia in Spain to the north of Portugal in the 1980s, where is expanded rapidly and in 2000 it could be found all over the north of the country down to the river Douro.
“Currently, there are sightings almost as far south as the Tagus, but we don’t know exactly how far the species has got,” said biologist Rita Gomes Rocha.
The biologist, who is studying the spread of the species in the country, has launched an appeal to be advised of any sightings of the animal or remains of its presence: “if you see a squirrel, let us know, where you saw it”.
The “Red Squirrel in Portugal” project aims to “understand the expansion of the red squirrel in the country, what factors influence that expansion and its behavior patterns”, said Rita Gomes Rocha.
Previous works have shown that the red squirrel once occupied the whole of Portugal, but died out in the 16th century. The probable causes included hunting and the increased deforestation due to farming and the naval industry. As a result, red squirrels were confined to small areas and by the end of the century became extinct.

View—of Bartolomé Island’s rugged, volcanic landscape. The night before, we had sailed from Santa Cruz to this small but famous island, known for its dramatic scenery and one of the most iconic views in the entire Galápagos.
At 7:00 AM, we boarded the dinghy and headed to shore. The climb wasn’t challenging—the wooden staircase made it manageable, and the altitude wasn’t an issue. The real challenge? The heat. Even that early in the morning, temperatures were already hitting 30°C (86°F), with humidity soaring over 95%. It felt like walking through a steam bath, but reaching the top made it all worth it.
From just over 100 meters above sea level, we had the classic Galápagos view—Pinnacle Rock jutting out of the turquoise waters, surrounded by lava fields and untouched beaches. You’ll find this view on countless postcards, but it was necessary for my Ecuador and the Galápagos portfolio.
Not the most original shot? Maybe. But seeing it in person made it unforgettable.

On the first day of our stay in Braemar, we explored several hiking opportunities starting from the village itself. During one of these hikes, a friendly Scottish couple told us about other great hiking spots just a short drive away around Craig Leek. The following day, we decided to check it out. There were several recommended trails, and we opted for the Craig Leek Circular Walk, which was just over 8 km long. This trail took us through woodlands, heather-clad moorlands, tranquil glens, and the dramatic mountain scenery of the Cairngorms. Despite the thick fog we encountered during our hike, we enjoyed this moderate-level trail that took us a few hours to complete - Craig Leek, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK

Pacific Wrens are tiny brown wrens with a song much larger than themselves. One researcher deemed them a “pinnacle of song complexity.” This tinkling, bubbly songster is more often heard than seen within the dark understory of old-growth evergreen forests where they live. When Pacific Wrens sing they hold their tail upright and their entire body shakes with sound. They move like mice through the forest understory, hopping along logs and upturned roots.
