I photographed him in my yard in Arkansas, where House Finches are regular visitors, especially near feeders or open spaces.
This species is known for the male’s bright red coloring, which varies depending on diet. Originally native to the western U.S., House Finches have expanded widely and adapted well to suburban settings.

On the forest floor, a young horse chestnut still carries the fresh green of summer. Its pale spikes catch the warm light while dry leaves around it already hint at the season slowly moving on. Seen from ground level, this small fallen fruit becomes the centre of an otherwise quiet scene. It is one of those details that can easily disappear beneath your feet if you walk past too quickly.

Aus der tiefen Perspektive wird die kleine heruntergefallene Frucht plötzlich zum Mittelpunkt der Szene. Einer dieser unscheinbaren Funde, die man leicht übersieht, wenn man zu schnell weitergeht.

A bright yellow daisy turns like a little compass to the light, petals radiating in clean spokes while the dark seed-heart gathers the day; around it the ground blurs to soft greens and warm earth, and the bloom feels both simple and exact-sunshine made into a single, steady star.
A single grass seed head catches the September sunlight against a soft green background. Fine strands of spider silk are visible between the tiny branches, adding another layer of detail to the scene. The shallow depth of field isolates the plant from its surroundings and keeps the moment simple. An ordinary piece of nature that becomes much more interesting when viewed up close.
Eine einzelne Gräserrispe steht im Septemberlicht vor einem weich verschwimmenden grünen Hintergrund. Zwischen den feinen Verzweigungen sind sogar einzelne Spinnfäden zu erkennen. Durch die geringe Schärfentiefe bleibt der Blick ganz beim Motiv. Ein unscheinbares Detail am Wegesrand, das aus der Nähe plötzlich interessant wird.

I found this web in my yard here in Arkansas. It had formed close to the ground among the pine straw, blending in until viewed from just the right angle.
This is the work of a grass spider, known for its horizontal sheet webs with a funnel retreat. These spiders wait in their tunnel for prey to cross the surface, then dart out with surprising speed.
From my garden. Sometimes pictures turn out of the camera like that - no post processing. While i do not take that as a mark of quality ... it saves me hours of work :-)
Took this yesterday...we are having Indian Summer here in NYS. Suppose to be eighty today and tomorrow. I love these smaller sunflowers I started planting them a few years ago...they last well into late October...
Tonggeret adalah sebutan untuk segala jenis serangga anggota subordo Cicadomorpha, ordo Hemiptera. Serangga ini dikenal dari banyak anggotanya yang mengeluarkan suara nyaring dari pepohonan dan berlangsung lama. Selain tonggeret, nama lain juga dikenal, biasanya dikaitkan dengan pola suara yang dihasilkan. Orang Sunda menyebutnya cengreret, orang Jawa menyebutnya garengpung atau uir-uir, tergantung suara yang dikeluarkan.
Serangga ini mempunyai sepasang mata faset yang letaknya terpisah jauh di kepalanya dan biasanya juga memiliki sayap yang tembus pandang. Bentuknya kadang-kadang seperti lalat yang besar, meskipun ada tonggeret yang berukuran kecil. Tonggeret hidup di daerah beriklim sedang hingga tropis dan sangat mudah dikenali di antara serangga lainnya, terutama karena tubuhnya yang besar dan akustik luar biasa yang dihasilkan dari alat penghasil suara di bawah sayapnya.
Banyak tonggeret memiliki daur hidup yang dipengaruhi musim. Di Indonesia, suara tonggeret garengpung yang nyaring akan muncul di akhir musim penghujan, saat serangga ini mencapai tahap dewasa, keluar dari bawah permukaan tanah untuk melakukan ritual musim kawin. Uir-uir dewasa baru keluar dari tanah di awal musim penghujan. Seusai kawin, betina meletakkan telur di tanah dan serangga ini mati. Tonggeret kadang-kadang dikira belalang atau lalat besar, meskipun mereka tidak mempunyai pertalian keluarga yang dekat. Tonggeret lebih mempunyai hubungan dekat secara taksonomi dengan wereng dan kutu loncat.
Di dunia ada sekitar 3.000 spesies tonggeret, meskipun banyak yang belum dideskripsikan. Tonggeret dikelompokkan dalam dua familia: Tettigarctidae dan Cicadidae. Ada dua spesies Tettigarctidae yang telah punah, satu di Australia selatan, dan yang lainnya di Tasmania. Familia Cicadidae dibagi lebih jauh ke dalam subfamilia Tettigadinae, Cicadinae dan Cicadettinae. Mereka terdapat di semua benua kecuali Antarktika.

Zwischen den großen Blättern sitzen diese zarten grünen Kapseln, deren feine Strukturen erst im Licht richtig sichtbar werden. Ihre ungewöhnlichen Formen gehen im üppigen Grün leicht unter. Ein kleines Detail am Wegesrand, das zeigt, wie weit der Sommer inzwischen fortgeschritten ist.
Caught mid-sip, this Owl Butterfly (Caligo sp.) proves that even jungle royalty needs a sugar fix.
