The country today is reeling from shock and outrage at a terrible terrorist assault in Mumbai. This crime against humanity claimed nearly 200 lives, including those of brave personnel of the police, ATS and NSG who died fighting to save others, and of hotel and hospital employees who risked and sacrificed their own lives while trying to save and serve their guests and patients. People all over the country salute all the martyrs and mourn the loss of innocent lives including foreign citizens and all those ordinary men, women and children who died in Mumbai. .

Facing such terror calls for rock-solid peoples unity. Unfortunately we instead have divisive politicians who are circling around for political capital out of bloodshed -like vultures around dead bodies. In Delhi we saw how, even before the 3-day terror was over, BJP was trying to fish for votes in bloody waters, with ads saying fight terror, vote BJP. Such parties trivialise the issue of terrorism. Yes, the UPA Government at the Centre and the Congress Government at Maharashtra failed miserably to protect our people from terrorism, and must be taught a lesson. But people of this country cannot forget that the Parliament Attack, the Kandahar hijacking and the Akshardham blasts too, in BJPs tenure, were terrible failures of intelligence and security. .

Not only that, there has been ample evidence that the BJPs own friends in the Sangh Parivar, like Sadhvi Pragya and Lt. Col. Purohit, have indulged in acts of terrorism. When Maharashtra ATS Chief Hemant Karkare worked to expose the network of Sanghi terrorism, the BJP, Shiv Sena and Sangh Parivar vilified him as anti-national and threatened him, and his colleagues and family. But after Karkare was martyred in the struggle against terrorists in Mumbai, Narendra Modi and Bal Thackeray went overboard in their attempt to appropriate the martyrs and make political capital of their martyrdom. Before trying to bask in the reflected glory of Karkares martyrdom, Modi and his ilk should at least have taken time to apologise for targeting him! .

Terrorism is senseless violence that targets innocent lives. We can never fight terrorism if we have one law for Sanghi terrorism and another for jehadi terrorism; if we have political parties like the BJP and Shiv Sena that try to squeeze out a vote from each drop of blood shed by terrorists. The stronger our democracy is, the better we can counter terrorism. Even CBI has recently admitted that Delhi Police imprisoned innocent Muslims on false charges of terrorism. Such acts of injustice, torture of innocents and fake encounters can only weaken the struggle against the actual forces of terror. .

India is under attack from the secret terror of bomb blasts etc... But we also suffer from the open terrorism of forces which attack innocents in the name of religion and region. The communal violence in Gujarat 2002 and Orissa 2008, the recent violence by the cadre of Raj and Bal Thackeray against the .
