Narrative. Narrative! NARRATIVE!
I went for a walk in nature recently and came across a man shouting Narrative! Narrative! Narrative!
I enquired as to what was distressing him so.
His dog had run away from him and wouldn't come back.
I enquired why he was shouting "Narrative!". It turned out that was the name of his dog.
I pointed out that he had lost control of his own narrative...
He seemed less than pleased.

Why? Why do we photograph what we photograph?
Why this shot? Not formally a street photo. Not necessarily compelling. No ethereal essence nor poetic stillness.
A seemingly innocuous everyday scene, but with a hyper-real sense of unease. An unwritten story, then asking the viewer to complete the narrative.
The premise and intent was to actively search out a banal unfolding narrative and stop it with my camera.
Not by accident, but rather an active conceptual process.
The assignment that I am working on is narrative. Please let me know what you think. I have looked at it for so long now that my brain is totally frazzled and I feel totally incapable of coherent thoughts.

I think I got the Ansco Color Clipper about ten years ago. I haven't "seriously" shot with it in a few years, but I brought it along with me this past weekend.
I'll probably shoot more with it this season. I'm not really sure of its purpose just yet, but I'll find one. Or I won't, and that's fine too.
This was taken in the early morning inside Yakima Canyon. I also shot a similar scene with the RB67, but it didn't work out so well.

In the Capuchin Church (Kapuzinerkirche) in Vienna
In art, there are two ways of depicting St Joseph: either as an old man or as a young man in his early thirties who is still in his prime. The view depends entirely on which biblical or apocryphal narratives one follows. Sometimes Joseph is an old widower, sometimes he is a man who has just built up an existence and has now found himself a wife who has just reached sexual maturity and is half his age. In the latter story, given the lifelong chastity attributed to Joseph, there is a heavy pinch of kitsch, which is why I find this presentation in the Capuchin Church extremely successful.
Rue Saint-Martin-en-Ćle is narrow, gray, not very busy and not really inviting, nor is it always clean. Blancbec was able to take these unkind qualities into account. It's easy to understand the response of his palette of vivid tones to the dull atmosphere of the place: "My intention is to reinvent the passage in the street. The transition from gray to color is like the journey to another world, to the island of Saint-Martin in the Caribbean Sea where, after a fantastic epic, you can discover a pirate treasure. The artist also incorporated the cramped nature of the passage. Rather than a monumental image that is difficult to grasp for lack of perspective, it unfolds a narrative composition whose story is sequenced in paintings sized to be read from the street. This is not, however, a work of circumstance. Blancbec remains faithful to the chromatic range and geometric writing that characterize all of his work.
I photographed this street vendor January 7th 2016. I was amused at the variety of pop culture now 'vintage'.. oddly Davie Bowie died 2 days later.. it is poignant and culturally interesting that he was 'vintage' while still alive.. I found this particularly fascinating given the random, component elements unwittingly arranged in the bins
Another from yesterday. I almost walked past it, but then I noticed this strange sort of narrative going on.

During our hike in the dunes from Heist to Knokke, we were captivated by a distant statue that caught our attention. As we approached it, I couldn't resist taking a picture. When I returned home, I searched online to discover the artist behind this impressive sculpture. I learned that her name is Aurora CaƱero, and she is renowned for crafting sculptures that possess a magical and curious charm -Dir. Gen. Willemspark, Duinbergen, Knokke, Belgium
People often seek escapism in movies and pictures as a means to momentarily detach from the pressures and realities of everyday life. These forms of media offer a gateway to alternate worlds, where individuals can immerse themselves in compelling narratives, fantastical settings, and larger-than-life characters.
Through the suspension of disbelief, viewers can temporarily forget their own troubles.
Whether it's the thrill of adventure, the allure of romance, or the exploration of distant galaxies, escapism provides a reprieve from the mundane and allows people to explore new realms of possibility, fostering a sense of wonder and excitement.
Generally a short term "fix" - a better long term strategy is to be comfortable or even happy with your life (but that's a story for a different day).
