AMRITSAR: 28 April 2014 -

National BJP leader and Kisan Morcha National Secretary today taking a swipe at Amarinder Singh's royal background. After BJYM meeting, in a press statement here today Grewal said that the politics of the Congress leader reflects his "feudal mindset" as he has been caught "lying with a straight face" on the property tax and Jagdish Tytler issue. Grewal also charged that Capt Amrinder Singh lives in a "world of sycophants". He said that " the politics of Congress party's candidate from Amritsar Lok Sabha Amarinder Singh only reflects his feudal instincts. He still lives in a world of sycophants where he is referred to as 'Maharaja Sahib'. He is discourteous and rude. He believes that discourtesy has given him the image of being 'Dabbang'".Grewal charged that "Amarinder Singh is not the best practitioner of ethical values. What is amazing is his ability to be extremely economical with the truth". Raking up the property tax issue, he said, Amarinder was caught being "untruthful" on the matter. Grewal said that " the tax was levied on the basis of his undertaking dated 7th December, 2006 to the Centre. I produced before the media the file carrying his signatures of approval. He ignored the truth and could bluntly lie that he did not approve it. Grewal charged that " the whole country saw him stand up and defend Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 riots case in an interview to a news channel. He today denies that he ever gave Tytler a clean chit. He, in a monarchical style, shouts down criticism and refuses to take questions." He said "having been caught lying with the straight face on the property tax and the Jagdish Tytler issue, any other candidate would have been put to shame before the people. But this emperor, even when caught without clothes, has the ability to look at you in the eye. This feudalism must be defeated." Talking about the BJP campaign, Grewal said, "There is clarity in the campaign. The acceptability of the leader is extremely high. The groundswell seems to be building up not only in our traditional support areas but also in those regions where our strength is relatively marginal." Grewal claimed "as against this, the Congress campaign is more abstract and confused. The leadership is non-inspirational, anti incumbency is hurting them significantly." He also noted barring the BJP and its allies, some regional parties appear to be doing well within the confines of their region. Grewal said that "most of these regional parties are conventionally anti- Congress. The third front or the federal front has a sporadic presence through certain regional groups but there is no structured alliance." He also said that "most opinion polls are predicting a comfortable BJP and NDA victory. No other alliance, expect the NDA has any rational possibility of forming the government. Narendra Modi has become symbol of hope in our country"

"I congratulate Hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the United Nation’s declaration of World Yoga Day. It is very difficult for any philosophy, religion or culture to survive without state patronage. Yoga has existed so far almost like an orphan. Now, official recognition by the UN would further spread the benefit of yoga to the entire world. India is the land where yoga was born and we must finally take the responsibility to spread it everywhere, starting from classrooms. This will help young people to move away from gun culture and violence. Yoga is a lifestyle and should not be mistaken for only asanas. A disease-free body, quiver-free breath, stress-free mind, inhibition-free intellect, obsession-free memory, ego that includes all, and soul which is free from sorrow are the signs of a perfect yogi. As Krishna said in the Bhagvad Gita, “Samatvam Yoga Ucyate” – equanimity in the individual is a sign of yoga. When Art of Living programs started in the early 80s, yoga was seen as being practiced by freaks and Himalayan yogis standing upside down or on one leg. That is one of the reasons why we called our program, the Art of Living, a generic term that people could relate to across races, religions and cultures. It was Paramhansa Yogananda, and then Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who brought respectability to yoga in the West. In the last 3 decades, the Art of Living has taken yoga to 152 countries and has 26,000 yoga teachers worldwide" ~ Sri Sri Ravi Shankar speaks on UN Declaration of June 21st as World Yoga Day

BJP Kisan Morcha National Secretary and Parbhari Himachal Pardesh Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal while countering the Congress demand for banning opinion polls said that the psephology is still maturing in India and some opinion polls do go wrong but it does not mean they all should be banned. Talking with the media persons in his office here today, Grewal said that a ban on such polls cannot be considered based on who is demanding the ban. Clearly, opinion polls are also a part of "Right to freedom of speech and expression" of Indian Constitution. Restricting them is constitutionally neither permissible nor desirable. Grewal said that the opinion polls are only opinion polls but some of them have acquired credibility and some can easily be ignored. So why ever it may be the reliability or otherwise of these polls, can they be prohibited or banned. He said that many opinion polls conducted recently show as Prime Ministerial BJP candidate Narendra Modi ahead Rahul Gandhi is widely seen as the PM probable for Congress. Opinion polls on the ensuing Assembly elections show BJP as the clear winner in the BJP ruled states Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and the Congress ruled Rajasthan. Grewal stated that the polls can if be legitimately banned in India, the next step would be to ban political commentators from giving assessments favourable to some and adverse to some others. He said that the poll panel is best advised to keep away from this controversy and allow the market place of democracy to accept or reject the findings of opinion polls in India.

Days after Narendra Modi suggested that BJP might tilt in favour of FDI in retail, All India Secretary BJP Kisan Morcha Advocate, Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal said a rethink on the issue was unlikely. BJP has steadfastly opposed FDI in retail. In a press statement here today Grewal said that as far as FDI in retail is concerned, the BJP has genuine concerns against this and I don't think, it is quite likely, that policy is going to be changed. He, however, did not dismiss the idea completely. As far as present is concerned, I think it is quite unlikely that the BJP will change, he said, noting that no policy was a policy for the next 100 years. Addressing a traders' conference in Delhi on Thursday, Modi had asked the trading community not to run away from global challenges but adapt itself to modern practices like tying up with bigger stores and online trading, without referring to FDI in retail. Grewal admitted that the BJP was consciously trying to woo the Muslim community ahead of elections and said the party will go full length to implement its three underlined convictions of security, equality and economic progress towards them. There is nothing wrong in it. It's a good sign for India. It's a good sign for BJP. It's a good sign for the minority community members. We and everybody has evolved, It's an appeal being made, he said and admitting that the BJP was making an effort to reach out to the community. Grewal said as far as Muslims were concerned, BJP was not a party that would go on the track of vote bank politics and have religion-based reservation for Muslims. On Pakistan, he said talks and terror could not co-exist and BJP's desire to talk would not outweigh the other surrounding circumstances. Grewal said that the attitude of BJP towards Pakistan if they came to power would be the same as it was during the NDA regime under Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This whole passion and desire that you continue to have dialogue at the highest level irrespective of what the response of Pakistan is. If you have Pakistan's attitude which is not responsive, it is not necessary that the heads of government meet, he said. On the recent Navy accident, he attacked defence minister A K Antony for stopping procurements and turning the situation in the forces to a crisis level and promised to reverse it if BJP came to power in the country.
