Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, India

Narayan Pal is one of the veteran idol makers by passion and heritage. He makes idols from age 7. He now is near 80.

Visit to the Swami Narayan Temple

Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is a temple complex in Bhuj, Kutch district, Gujarat which is managed by Nar Narayan Dev Gadi of the Swaminarayan Sampraday, a sect of Hinduism. The inauguration ceremony of the temple held from 15 to 23 May 2010

An earthquake on 26 January 2001 shattered most parts of the city of Bhuj, including the original Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Bhuj built by Swaminarayan in 1824. To replace this, the new temple is built of only marble and gold. The throne for the idol of Swaminarayan, the temple domes and doors are made of gold while the pillars and ceilings are made of marble.[1] The original central deity images of Nar Narayan and Swaminarayan in the form of Hari Krishna were moved from the old temple to the new one along with those of Radha Krishna, Swaminarayan in the form of Ghanshyam and Sukh Shaiya and others.

The new temple was built at a cost of 1 billion Indian rupees (100 crore) on 5 acres (20,000 m2) of land. Made in marbe, intricate carvings adorn the pillars and ceiling of the most expensive temple built in the Indian state of Gujarat recently.

Sukh Shanti Sab Se bada Dhan

For peace hope humanity the poetry of my soul yearns ..as the flame perched precariously on the candle burns ..what I lost perhaps may not return ..my memories of her love spent out ashes in an urn ..at every disillusioning turn ..

Caught in a vice between my dead father and the burnt out dreams of my son..

I move but I cannot run ..

A detail from the Hindu Changu Narayan temple in Bhaktapur.

Like many of the temples we visited in Nepal (and unlike most Western churches) it felt it was an important part of the residents everyday routine rather than a something that's been preserved as a tourist attraction.

On our last full day in Nepal we decided we'd head outside Kathmandu to visit Bhaktapur. It's not far outside the city but it was less hectic and it did give us a chance to see a bit of the countryside on route.

From Wikipedia : "From Wikipedia : "The ancient Hindu temple of Changu Narayan is located on a high hilltop that is also known as Changu or Dolagiri. The temple was surrounded by champak tree forest and a small village known as Changu. The temple is located in Changunarayan VDC of Bhaktapur District, Nepal. This hill is about 7 miles or 12 km east of Kathmandu and a few miles north of Bhaktapur. The Manahara River flows beside the hill. This shrine is dedicated to lord Visnu and held in special reverence by the Hindu people. This temple is considered to be the oldest temple in the history of Nepal. The Kashmiri king gave his daughter, Champak, in marriage to the prince of Bhaktapur. Changu Narayan Temple is named after her."
