The Yellowhammer is a brightly colored passerine bird. The male in nuptial plumage sports a yellow and reddish plumage of the most beautiful effect. This species is known for its song described locally by several words which only remind the rhythm and are only a pale imitation of the real sound emitted by the bird.

The Yellowhammer is widely distributed across most of Europe, with some populations partially migratory or dispersive after breeding. It frequents cultivated areas and wooded pastures, forest edges and heather moors.

The Yellow Sparrow is threatened by habitat destruction and its population appears to be declining, but currently the species is not globally threatened.

Noticed that most of the Warbler Pictures were Male Warblers.

Need to post more of the Female warblers from this Spring Migration.

I am back from my lovely week away in Northern Victoria.

This was taken on my first evening away. A quick dash out to try to find somewhere to photograph sunset when I noticed the sky change colour. Saw this lovely farm gate, open, so figured it was an invitation to photograph the fast disappearing sunset!

Hope everyone is doing fine and I will try to catch up with you all soon!

Noticed this tree at Upper Padley, and how it has grown with the prevailing wind... its a hard existance!.. Peak District , Derbyshire, UK, March 2017

Sadly, no recent sighting of this birdie, but it is nice to remember.

noticed them in my backyard

An old barn door serves as a frame for a horse that stuck its head out to see what was going on as I stopped to shoot this photo. He soon lost interest in me. Many people spend their whole lives seeking to be noticed only to discover that wasn't what they were really looking for.

I noticed that over the past weeks, there have been fewer and fewer birds in the backyard, just a handful of Great and Blue Tits and sometimes House Sparrows and ... that's all :-( However, the feeders are full of what is usually appreciated.

◇◇◇

TUGBOATS, SEA IMP X towing SEA IMP III

I noticed the operators and deck hands preparing these two tugs to leave the dock. When they finally pulled away Sea IMP III connected to the back of SEA IM X.

My guess might be, they were saving fuel while traveling to their evening work destination,

Both tugs, if you look close, are connected by a tow line, and about to head down the Fraser River.

Mission Train Bridge

Mission

British Columbia, Canada

The Mission Railway Bridge is a Canadian Pacific Railway bridge spanning the Fraser River between Mission, and Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada.

Replacing an earlier bridge built in 1891, which was the first and only bridge crossing of the Fraser below Siska in the Fraser Canyon until the construction of the New Westminster rail bridge in 1904, it was constructed in 1909 by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). The Mission Railway Bridge is supported by 13 concrete piers and is approximately 533 metres in length. Before completion of the Mission highway bridge, highway traffic to and from Matsqui and Abbotsford with Mission used the bridge as a one-way alternating route, with traffic lights at either end to control direction. Rail traffic often held up car crossings, causing long and often very lengthy waits, which were a part of daily life in the Central Valley until the new bridge was completed.

Beneath the bridge's north abutment is an important river-level gauge monitored during the annual Fraser freshet. The bridge is also the location of the end of the Fraser's tidal bore - downstream from the bridge the river is increasingly influenced by tidal influences from the Georgia Strait.

Swing span

The Mission Railway Bridge has a swing span which has a vertical clearance of 4.9 metres above the water when closed. The swing span is fitted atop a circular concrete pier, the 10th from the north bank of the river. The 10th pier is protected from shipping traffic by two 46 metre wood piers extending upstream and downstream respectively perpendicular to the bridge which are tapered at both ends. The navigation channel past the bridge is 30 metres in width. At night a fixed white light is displayed on piers 9 and 11 as well as at the up-river and down-river ends of the protection pier.

The majority of marine traffic consists of log tows and gravel barges, which are permitted to use the navigation channel beneath the fixed span between piers 5 and 6. The swing span is used for wood chip barges and other vessels which cannot navigate beneath the span between piers 5 and 6.

CPR maintains a bridge tender 24 hours per day at an office on the north bank of the bridge. Vessels requesting passage through the swing span contact the bridge tender on marine VHF radio, whereby the tender walks the bridge to a control booth situated on the swing span.

It's not a very intentional shot, just fooling around with my new zoom lens :D

But this location is nice, yet another extension of the land into the sea and it's still under construction so not full of tourists.

Fav if you noticed the child in the back seat!

Notice the right hand drive on this. Photographed at an FBI Auction in Salt Lake City, UT in 2010. Guy was up for tax evasion and a few other things. Lots of nice cars but some strange ones also... This was pretty cool except for the right hand drive.

More Info

I noticed these very ominous clouds as I was out and about this afternoon. I liked the contrast between the clouds in the distance and the sun shining on the hills near me. Tonight is going to be the coldest (for us) in a while, but even then it won't be below freezing.

I noticed some high clouds after dinner and took off towards the River in hopes of a colorful sunset. There are several benches that line the walking paths that run parallel to the river and this one at this moment had such a nice cloud formation that I had to stop and capture it.

Notice the bird to the right doing a rather unconventional takeoff from his spot on the tree...found it really fascinating!

Notice the rainbow on the bumper of that black car? Don't know where that came from.

Did you get your disconnection notice?

Mine came in the mail today

They seem to think I'm disconnected

Don't think I know what to read or write or say

Glossaries injected daily

Words and numbers spell out the price to pay

It simply states "you're disconnected baby"

See how easily it all slips away

Douglas County, Washington

A bit of a cliche picture but I thought the sign was unusual, three buckets, slightly desaturated, at the North Norfolk Railway station in Sheringham. The abbreviation on the sign is short for the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway.

After dinner I noticed nice red clouds high up in the sky. I grabbed my camera gear and raced to a nearby bridge in Cupertino. The red sky was gone by the time I arrived at the bridge. It's worthwhile sticking around. I love the one-point perspective you get with this bridge. Something Stanley Kubrick was obsessed with, he used it extensively in his films.

I processed a paintery and a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Talking till we notice it's 2am...

Who ever knew a moment like this would ever come again.

Music for this moment

I was just coastin', never really goin' anywhere

Caught up in a web

I was gettin' kind of used to stayin' there

And out of the blue

I fell for you

Now you're liftin' me up, 'stead of holdin' me down

Stealin' my heart, 'stead of stealin' my crown

Untangled all the strings 'round my wings that were tied

I didn't know him and I didn't know me

Cloud nine was always out of reach

Now I remember what it feels like to fly

You give me butterflies

Kiss full of color, makes me wonder where you've always been

I was hiding in doubt 'til you brought me out of my chrysalis

And I came out new

All because of you

Now you're liftin' me up, 'stead of holdin' me down

Stealin' my heart, 'stead of stealin' my crown

Untangled all the strings round my wings that were tied

I didn't know him and I didn't know me

Cloud nine was always out of reach

Now I remember what it feels like to fly

You give me butterflies

Yeah, you give me butterflies

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

Mm, mm

Now you're liftin' me up, 'stead of holdin' me down

You're takin' my hand, 'stead of takin' my crown

Untangled all the strings round my wings that were tied

I didn't know him and I didn't know me

Cloud nine was always out of reach

Now I remember what it feels like to fly

You give me butterflies

Mm, mm, mm

You give me butterflies

Mm, mm, mm, mm
