Under the auspices of Minneapolis Metro, the Northstar commuter rail service was launched in 2009, connecting Target Field Station in downtown Minneapolis with Big Lake MN. The number of passengers using the service fell below forecast, so the service was cut back to two round trips per day. The train closest to the camera is the 17.30 (5.30pm) service; beyond is train due to return to Big Lake at 16.27 (4.27pm).

The first locomotive for the Northstar commuter service between Minneapolis and Big Lake arrived at the shop in Big Lake today, 10/3. I love the scheme! Never thought I'd live to see commuter trains in Minnesota!
