Four cars of commuters heading home for the day. Many just departed the train at Anoka Station about a minute ago. In 5 minutes, another handful will get off at Ramsey Station.

With it's demise imminent I've been on a kick of shooting Northstar lately. Here's the second inbound train of the morning rolling around the Harrison Street wye seen from Milwaukee 261's parking lot.

I caught 18 Perseid meteors over the fields of Burnt Hills, on August 10th (the night before the peak of the meteor shower)
I compensated for the rotation of the earth (which makes the stars appear to move, as well as the radiant from which the meteors appear to come from) using the north star as a point of reference (and rotation) adjusting the angles of the meteors so they all align with the radiant in the frame I used for the "background".
Another gloomy day in Minneapolis as Northstar commuter train crosses the Mississippi and heads to Big Lake.
The death of Northstar was officially announced today. Last rush hour on 1/2 and last train will be homeward bound from the Vikings game that weekend.
The second inbound Northstar of the rush is just about to arrive Minneapolis as they cross the main channel of the Mississippi River
"Northstar" is the name on the camper behind this horse, but it seems to fit the horse itself as well.
This horse was waiting to participate in the CSHA Region 5 Obstacle Challenge at the Equestrian Center of Walnut Creek in Heather Farm Park. It seems that these events have only recently opened up as COVID restrictions have been loosened in California.

One of the dozen or so night shots I took at the tour of the Northstar Commuter rail shop in Big Lake. Thanks to Steve G. for setting it up. And thanks to a very patient Chris Anderson, the shop supervisor who allowed me to stay late.
The sun comes down behind downtown Minneapolis, while the 4:27pm Northstar departure for Big Lake crosses the west channel of the Mississippi River and travels over Nicollet Island.

BNSF's "Northstar Holiday Train" arrives Big Lake in prime evening light for it's popular run to St. Paul.
This second annual trip is just the second revenue run to SPUD, after overwhelming ridership last year, it seems a new tradition has begun.
Since there wasn't a planned photo shoot like last year, the perfect weather made for a great opportunity to shoot the train on the other end of the trip.

With the summer weather continuing in the north east of England, a quick visit to Tynemouth Seafront today, 14/07/24, to see what new operator Northstar was operating on the Mouth of the Tyne Festival P&R service. Whilst they don’t start normal services until a week tomorrow, they have been doing a few bits and pieces in the last few months.
Awaiting repaint and branding todays offering was SN09 CGX, a well travellled ADL Enviro 300 which started life on demonstration to Nat Exp West Midlands (1908) before spells with Minsterley Motors, First West Yorkshire and then a lengthy spell with NAT whose dark purple livery it still carries.
It took several bricklink orders to acquire the trans clear liftarms for the stand, worth it though, steady as a rock
An extra outbound deadhead slips under Washington Street shortly after departing Target Field station. This train will deadhead to Big Lake and return as a Twins extra arriving at 1112 for a 1210 first ptch. It was a great game in beautiful weather that left me sunburnt. The Twins had their first walk off win of 2025 besting the Mets in 10 innings.
The 0640 Northbound Northstar is screeching around the curve at Harrison St. in Northeast Minneapolis. With the imminent demise of the Northstar I've been trying to shoot these whenever possible. I've taken their great paint scheme for granted all these years.
I had the pole out for a shot of Northstar at Stadium in downtown Minneapolis along the bike trail that parallels the tracks. Many people stopped to look over my pole! When the train came this biker happened by and waved at the train at just the right instant.
