A recent press release by Network Rail and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced the winner of their 2018 design competition for the possible railway footbridge of the future. The Competition’s challenge was to design fully accessible footbridges that could be used across Britain’s rail network. The competition was looking for ideas that were innovative, challenged presumptions and raised expectations for the quality of future design.
The winning design came from the Danish architectural practice Gottlieb Paludan Architects, working with Czech engineering and bridge specialist Strasky, Husty and Partners, put forward a bridge which the judges described “as most convincingly addressing the wide range of practical challenges whilst proposing a bold, elegant and uncluttered response that would create an uplifting experience to suit many contexts”.
Due to the high quality of the entry, the judges also decided to highly commended the entry by Hawkins\Brown with WSP. They commented that “This design presented a strong strategic approach, proposing a modular ‘kit of parts’ that would enable a standardised bridge system to be adapted via the use of simple pre-fabricated, clip-on modular elements to different contexts and settings, with the footbridge being conceived as a social engine focussed on people and place.”
- Mr. Kim Gladstone Herlev, Direttore dell’Experimentarium a Copenhagen
- Ms. Pilvi Kolk, Direttrice di AHHAA in Estonia
- Mr. Jean Baptiste Desbois, Direttore della Cité de l’Espace a Tolosa in Francia

Elite6 Business Networking www.elite6.co.nz
We are a progressive and forward thinking business networking organisation that brings local businesses together each week for an hour of interactive networking.
At each meeting one member delivers a 15-minute presentation to the meeting.
Then, each person speaks for five minutes about their business while sitting at a table of six. Tables are mixed each week, so you get to meet different people. This is a major point of difference with Elite6 compared to other networking groups. Members are encouraged to meet outside the Elite6 meetings for further discussion about how their businesses might collaborate and/or refer to each other.
We also promote each business online with the Elite6 Members Directory each member has the ability to post Blogs and Events! Again this is distinctive to Elite6. Several groups meet each week in Ferrymead, Cashmere, Rolleston, Christchurch City, Tower Junction, Rangiora, Papanui, Waimakariri, Avonhead, Merivale and Sydenham with more groups springing up all the time in other areas.
We’d love to have you visit one of our groups so If you are interested in joining us Register online and one of our Facilitators will contact you!
