Understanding autism is a local campaign, which launched in March 2015 across West Sussex. Its aim is to promote a better understanding of the condition amongst the general public and to challenge common stereotypes.

People with autism from West Sussex have joined forces with the County Council to share their experiences.

World Autism Awareness Day was on Thursday 2 April 2015 and concluded a week of events across the county, including workshops for adults and children with autism and their carers. There were also street mythbusting events, which gave residents the opportunity to find out more about autism.

Campaign materials created are available to download in PDF format at:

It's hard to tell the height of something from an angle such as this, but it doesn't look like 146 meters to me.

My son has been fascinated with this display since he saw the Modern Marvels episode about Disney and they told the story of the first version of Animatronic Abe failing due to a burst hydraulic hose. The guests at the time though that Disney had recreated the assassination because of the red hydraulic fluid.

The sight of a single, and then a collection, of electric green, pink-beaked Rose-ringed Parakeets was to this passing tourist a complete surprise.

How they arrived on these shores is somewhat academic nowadays with the breeding population doing very well. A number of urban myths abound, though, such as the birds escaping from a container at Heathrow airport, or from Shepperton Studios (in west London) in 1951 during the filming of The African Queen, and even that they're descended from those kept by Jimi Hendrix when he was living in London (and yakking backstage with Chris Squire from Yes, etc.).

Testing the Mythbusters phonebook myth with magazines - as noone has seen a phonebook for years around these parts. And yes, the magazines turned out to be impossible to pull apart. :)

Nowadays, the internet is full of all sorts of “knowledge” about training and diets, Let's put it together with greatest workout Misconceptions as due to flood of so called information ; it’s hard to figure out which is really true and which isn’t. !

Here , I will share with you the greatest workout misconceptions and also explain why they are not true so you will better adjust to the mazes of training and diet. There are logical explanations for some of the misconceptions, they just need to be corrected, but there are also much bigger nonsense that needs to be eradicated from our thinking.

1. Cardio machines tell you exactly how many calories you have burned

Calorie burning also depends on age, fitness level, BMI and gender. As the fitness level as such cannot be measured and too much data cannot be extracted from the BMI, it is not advisable to rely on the machine counter. There are machines that do not even ask for the above information. Calories are just a measure anyway.

2. Heart rate monitors on cardio machines show how hard you train

Another among the greatest workout misconceptions is that they don’t really tell you how hard you train, they rather show what kind of training you do. You are in the fat burning range around 130, doing aerobic exercise, then your body's oxygen uptake is very high so you burn fat. Above that, in the case of intense exercise, you go into the anaerobic range, this is already an endurance workout.

Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Gardens are huge and free to enter for the public to enjoy the trees and palmhouses and ponds and streams and squirrels. There is a lovely giftshop that sells everything from wooden toys to bird tables, you're allowed on the grass, and there's even covered bicycle parking.

This was why I was taken aback at the prospect of paying nearly £15 to visit Kew Gardens for half an hour, when all I wanted to do was sit underneath a tree to eat my sandwiches and read.

So I sat on a nearby bench and ate them there.

This photo should've appeared between Mythbusting birds and This is the BBC, but Flickr Uploadr crashed with several still to go.
