This was your more typical daytime D.C. snowstorm that made for some nice scenes but did not cause too much trouble in the city. Rumors of more snow this weekend?

"American car companies relied too much on big, heavy, gas guzzling pickup trucks". Excuse me?

I believe that big, heavy 5.6L V8 crew cab pickup behind my car is a JAPANESE Nissan Titan! Yes, the Japanese wanted a piece of the full-size pickup market, and they got a piece, before the recession and collapsing full-size pickup sales caught them flat-footed. They hadn't counted on the patriotism of American pickup buyers. That's why the Ford F- Series pickup is the best selling pickup (indeed, the best-selling vehicle) in the world, and the Chevy Silverado is #2. And Chevy builds the only hybrid full-size V8 pickups, with a combined city/highway MPG of 22. Take that, Toyota and Nissan!

Alas, after fifteen minutes of construction, the pyramid is not even two meters tall. This proves conclusively that if the Great Pyramid of Giza exists, it's a lot shorter than people claim. Probably just a lie the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism likes to spread.

See my blog post for the full report.

The mission: investigate the claim that the Great Pyramid of Giza is roughly 146 meters tall.

The method: In the famous Mythbusters tradition, I will attempt to replicate the feat myself. If I don't succeed within ten minutes, the myth will be busted.

Step one: I'll take the blocks from there and pile them over here.

What a pleasure to finally see this fellow talk; a speech dotted with stories and quaking emotions, at times humility, mythbusting, philosophical rambles that were short and sweet and then occasional aspirations of grandeur although we can all feel his torch being passed. Few are the authors that are as of true in pen and in person as this one. Glad I made the trip in today.

In our post-fact world, it is so easy to be mislead on many subjects unless we immerse ourselves in that subject. Performance is a subject that gathers more attention and myths than most other subjects in technology. In this track we gather the experts who can demystify this subject and distil what matters to answer the questions people struggle with.

Real world, applied performance proofs across stacks. Hear performance consideratiosn for .NET, Python, & Java. Learn performance use cases with OpenJ9, Instagram, and Netflix.

Nowadays, the internet is full of all sorts of “knowledge” about training and diets, Let's put it together with greatest workout Misconceptions as due to flood of so called information ; it’s hard to figure out which is really true and which isn’t. !

Here , I will share with you the greatest workout misconceptions and also explain why they are not true so you will better adjust to the mazes of training and diet. There are logical explanations for some of the misconceptions, they just need to be corrected, but there are also much bigger nonsense that needs to be eradicated from our thinking.

1. Cardio machines tell you exactly how many calories you have burned

Calorie burning also depends on age, fitness level, BMI and gender. As the fitness level as such cannot be measured and too much data cannot be extracted from the BMI, it is not advisable to rely on the machine counter. There are machines that do not even ask for the above information. Calories are just a measure anyway.

2. Heart rate monitors on cardio machines show how hard you train

Another among the greatest workout misconceptions is that they don’t really tell you how hard you train, they rather show what kind of training you do. You are in the fat burning range around 130, doing aerobic exercise, then your body's oxygen uptake is very high so you burn fat. Above that, in the case of intense exercise, you go into the anaerobic range, this is already an endurance workout.
