I usually travel for work. A lot. I usually go alone (think Up in the Air, but without the romance side). So, whenever I have a chance to travel with Scott, I really enjoy it. That's probably why today, when the flight attendant brought this diet coke can with a heart, I felt awfully romantic.I know I'm a week late but since mycuteladybug posted her list on Musically Challenged, I really wanted to do this song (Raindrops, by Regina Spektor).
Also for TOTW, I'm a Diet Coke addict.

Founded in 1993, the Krewe of Orpheus takes its name from the musically-inclined son of Zeus and Calliope. Founding members included Harry Connick, both the junior and senior.
In New Orleans, the krewe established themselves as a superkrewe with their first parade in 1994, which rolled with 700 riders. They were the first super Krewe to allow both male and female riders.
The Krewe's throws include a number of popular items including emblem beads, stuffed animals, signature beads, light-up Orpheus medallion beads, cups, three different types of doubloons, and 4-foot-long stuffed dragons.
They have a number of notable floats including the Dolly Trolley, the horse-drawn bus that was used in the opening of Hello Dolly with Barbra Streisand, the Smoking Mary which is a six unit float that looks like a steam locomotive, a Trojan horse and the Orpheus Leviathan Float, which is a three unit, 139-foot float, and the first Carnival float to use extensive fiber optic lighting.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Fats Domino wass the honorary grand marshall for 2014. His eldest son, Antoine Domino III, rode in the parade and perform his 85 year old father's music.

At midnight, in the month of June,
I stand beneath the mystic moon.
An opiate vapor, dewy, dim,
Exhales from out her golden rim,
And, softly dripping, drop by drop,
Upon the quiet mountain top,
Steals drowsily and musically
Into the universal valley.
The rosemary nods upon the grave;
The lily lolls upon the wave;
Wrapping the fog about its breast,
The ruin molders into rest;
Looking like Lethe, see! the lake
A conscious slumber seems to take,
And would not, for the world, awake.
All Beauty sleeps!- and lo! where lies
Irene, with her Destinies!
O, lady bright! can it be right-
This window open to the night?
The wanton airs, from the tree-top,
Laughingly through the lattice drop-
The bodiless airs, a wizard rout,
Flit through thy chamber in and out,
And wave the curtain canopy
So fitfully- so fearfully-
Above the closed and fringed lid
'Neath which thy slumb'ring soul lies hid,
That, o'er the floor and down the wall,
Like ghosts the shadows rise and fall!
Oh, lady dear, hast thou no fear?
Why and what art thou dreaming here?
Sure thou art come O'er far-off seas,
A wonder to these garden trees!
Strange is thy pallor! strange thy dress,
Strange, above all, thy length of tress,
And this all solemn silentness!
The lady sleeps! Oh, may her sleep,
Which is enduring, so be deep!
Heaven have her in its sacred keep!
This chamber changed for one more holy,
This bed for one more melancholy,
I pray to God that she may lie
For ever with unopened eye,
While the pale sheeted ghosts go by!
My love, she sleeps! Oh, may her sleep
As it is lasting, so be deep!
Soft may the worms about her creep!
Far in the forest, dim and old,
For her may some tall vault unfold-
Some vault that oft has flung its black
And winged panels fluttering back,
Triumphant, o'er the crested palls,
Of her grand family funerals-
Some sepulchre, remote, alone,
Against whose portal she hath thrown,
In childhood, many an idle stone-
Some tomb from out whose sounding door
She ne'er shall force an echo more,
Thrilling to think, poor child of sin!
It was the dead who groaned within.

Roxy Music are an English art rock group formed in 1971 by Bryan Ferry, who became the group's lead vocalist and chief songwriter. The other members are Phil Manzanera (guitar), Andy Mackay (saxophone and oboe) and Paul Thompson (drums and percussion). Former members include Brian Eno (synthesizer and "treatments"), and Eddie Jobson (synthesizer and violin). Although the band took a break from group activities in 1983, they reunited for a concert tour in 2001, and have toured together intermittently since that time.
Roxy Music attained popular and critical success in the UK, Europe and Australia during the 1970s and early 1980s, beginning with their debut album, Roxy Music (1972).[1] The band was highly influential, as leading proponents of the more experimental, musically sophisticated element of glam, as well as a significant influence on early English punk music. They also provided a model for many New Wave acts and the experimental electronic groups of the early 1980s. The group is distinguished by their visual and musical sophistication and their preoccupation with style and glamour.[2] Ferry and co-founding member Eno have also had influential solo careers, the latter becoming one of the most significant record producers and collaborators of the late 20th century.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked Roxy Music #98 on its "The Immortals – 100 The Greatest Artists of All Time" list.[3]
A new studio album, which would have been their ninth, began recording in 2005. It would have been Roxy's first record with Brian Eno since 1973, who wrote two songs for it as well as played keyboards.[4] However, Bryan Ferry eventually confirmed that material from these sessions would be released as a Ferry solo album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks,"[5] and that he doesn't think they'll record as Roxy Music again.[6] Subsequently, this was confirmed by the announcement of a solo Bryan Ferry album, entitled Olympia.
Following in her parents' footsteps (we both played xylophone for high school band, coincidentally).

...So goodbye yellow brick road,
Where the dogs of society howl.
You can't plant me in your penthouse.
I'm going back to my plough.
Back to the howling old owl in the woods,
Hunting the horny back toad.
Oh, I've finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road.

I was told that an abstract photo is something that the viewer cant really tell what it is. Well if that's the case then this is my abstract photo, because I'm sure you just see a man. However i see a father, partner, best friend and lover. This man means everything to me and noone sees that but me.
ODC-ABSTRACT
You're still as lovely as the first day
I told your mama you'd me mine one day
I'd be you're everything, could not wait
I'm so happy to say I was right
Cuz you... are the only for me
I've known for so long

Nephew Robin, rockin' out while playing Guitar Hero on the overhead projection unit at the local library.
Foreigner - #35/52 in my "Musically Inspired" set
Standing in the rain, with his head hung low
Couldn't get a ticket, it was a sold out show
Heard the roar of the crowd, he could picture the scene
Put his ear to the wall, then like a distant scream
He heard one guitar, just blew him away
He saw stars in his eyes, and the very next day
Bought a beat up six string in a second-hand store
Didn't know how to play it, but he knew for sure
That one guitar, felt good in his hands
Didn't take long, to understand
Just one guitar, slung way down low
Was a one way ticket, only one way to go.
So he started rockin'.
Ain't never gonna stop.
Gotta keep on rockin'.
Someday he's gonna make it to the top...
And be a juke box hero, got stars in his eyes
He's a juke box hero.
He took one guitar, juke box hero, stars in his eyes
Juke box hero, he'll come alive tonight.

Wow!!!
The day started musically, with refreshing water sound play, as the basics of Music.
Shape Hopscotch: an educative way to improve on their fine motor skills, gave a wonderful learning experience.
Wall number game for numeracy was also exciting.
To enhance their literacy skills, they sorted out phonics by sending phonic mails.
Archeologist!! Archeology!!
Yes… at White Fields Nursery, archeologists were busy digging up old remains of dinosaurs and insects.
Kids enjoyed Water play, during which they had to search for the sea animals in their own little sea.
They enjoyed the ring game and painting activities, and also had a great time learning about number 4 and counting with pom poms.
During outdoor game, kids played a "hit the target" game.
The day ended with a balloon tennis game.
A day to explore and to enjoy…

Dreaming of a blue angel.

...Second stage is cut. We're now in orbit.
Stabilizers up. Running perfect.
Starting to collect requested data.
"What will it affect when all is done?",
Thinks Major Tom.
Back at ground control, there is a problem
"Go to rockets full"... No responding.
"Hello, Major Tom. Are you receiving?
Turn the thrusters on. We are standing by."
No reply.
Four, three, two, one.....
Earth below us,
Drifting, falling
Floating weightless,
Calling, calling home.
Across the strathosphere, a final message:
"Give my wife my love", then nothing more.
Far beneath the ship, the world is mourning.
They don't realize, he's alive.
No one understands, but Major Tom sees
"Now the light commands,
This is my home.
I'm coming home."

METAMATIC Reloaded, exhibition view, November 9, 2013.
Singing Room for a Shy Person gives visitors the opportunity to express themselves musically without being inhibited by shyness. In the process, the singing is transposed to a new musical plane by Bhatnagar’s instruments. The outcome of the interaction with the artwork thus becomes just as dependent on the artwork’s parameters as on the singing person’s performance.
The exhibition METAMATIC Reloaded is the result of an international call for entries issued by the Dutch Métamatic Research Initiative (MRI) in 2009. Artists were called on to tackle, from today’s perspective, the topic and concept of Jean Tinguely’s drawing machines, called Méta-Matics which are among his most important groups of work and inventions. The outcome of the pro-cesses, a total of ten projects by internationally renowned and also young, up-and-coming artists, will be all together on show for the first time in Basel from October 23, 2013, with works by: Marina Abramović, Ranjit Bhatnagar, John Bock, Olaf Breuning, Thomas Hirschhorn, Aleksandra Hirszfeld, Jon Kessler, Pors & Rao, João Simões and Brigitte Zieger.

Artist: Harriet Backer
Throughout Harriet Backer's 50-year career, women's rights changed radically. Being a woman and an artist became accepted. Backer was talented and determined, inspiring a new generation of women and men in the Norwegian art world.
In Backer’s family, art and culture were part of how the children were raised. Her older sister Agathe was musically gifted and wanted to become a pianist. She had to go abroad to learn, and Harriet became her sister's traveling companion. This gave Harriet the opportunity to visit art museums and get to know the historical masters of the art world at a young age. Agathe eventually became a renowned composer and concert pianist, while Harriet became an important artist.
Backer showed an early talent and interest in art, but embarked on full-time studies rather late in life. In 1874, at 29 years, she decided to travel to Munich. The art community in Norway was small, so one had to go abroad.
The art academies in Europe were reserved for men in those days, but women could receive private tuition or attend "women's classes". During her years in Munich, Backer had several teachers. In 1878 she moved to Paris to continue her studies.
Being accepted for exhibition at the Salon in Paris was an important step on the path to becoming a professional artist. In 1880, Backer was accepted with the painting Solitude. Hundreds of artists exhibited at these exhibitions at the same time, and the paintings hung close together, from floor to ceiling. The jury thought Backer's painting was excellent, and she was honoured with a diploma, known as a Mention honorable.
In Munich, Backer learned to paint in a style characterised by a high level of detail and dark colours. We see this for example in Avskjeden (The Farewell), from 1878. When she came to Paris, she was greatly inspired by impressionism. In one of her best-known paintings, Blått interiør (Blue Interior), painted five years after Avskjeden, the transformation of her painting style is evident. Clear and pure colours dominate the composition. From this point on, the interaction between figure, interior and light effects became a theme that permeated Backer's paintings. How to create contrasts between the light indoors and outdoors? How are colours perceived in lamplight compared to daylight? She approached her subjects with these issues in mind.
Backer started her career with a desire to become a portrait painter. She painted many friends and acquaintances, and also received portrait commissions. But it is her interior scenes she has become best known for. She painted interiors from all walks of life – from farmhouses to bourgeois living rooms. For the most part, Backer's rooms are populated by women.
I think I serve the cause of women best by concentrating like a man – Harriet Backer
In 1888, Backer established herself in Norway, and from 1892 to 1910 ran a painting school in Kristiania. She became a popular teacher. Her openness to new ideas in both art and social development was appreciated. She sympathised with the women's movement, but did not actively participate in political work.
In the women's cause, Backer was recognised more for what she did than what she said – as a renowned artist she was an important role model. Together with friend and fellow artist Kitty Kielland, she was a pioneer who paved the way for women to have the opportunity to choose art as a career path.
About Harriet Backer:

On 11 June 2022 the new National Museum opened in Oslo. This is the largest museum in the Nordics. The new museum now consists of the collections of the former National Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Norwegian Museum of Decorative Arts and Design.
The new museum has a permanent exhibition of about 6 500 objects. Design, arts and crafts, fine art as well as contemporary art will be exhibited alongside each other. As such, the permanent exhibition highlights interesting connections between different collections that previously have been on show at three different museums. Additionally, audiences will be able to see the most famous paintings by the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch, including The Scream (1893) and Madonna (1894).
The building was designed by Kleihues + Schuwerk Gesellschaft von Architekten, with emphasis on dignity and longevity over sensationalist architecture. Great care was given to achieve a balance with the museum’s surroundings and the existing monuments in the area, such as Oslo City Hall and Akershus Fortress.
The most eye-catching feature of the new museum is the large, illuminated exhibition hall on top of the building. It will be used for temporary exhibitions.
The rooftop terrace offers a unique view of the inner Oslo fjord. The square in front of the main entrance has become an urban meeting place, with benches and a café that invites you in to take a rest.

Oh the night makes you a star
And it holds you cold in its arms
You’re the one to whom nobody verses I love you
Unless you say it first
So you lie there holding your breath
And it's strange how soon you forget
That you’re like stars
They only show up when it’s dark
Cause they don’t know their worth
And I think you need to stop following misery’s lead
Shine away, shine away, shine away!

Got some catching up to do, hm :)
A photo for two challenges.
Firstly, (which might help the photo make sense) is 'Musically Challenged', Master of Puppets, by Metallica:
'Master of Puppets, I'm pulling your strings,
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing'
Second challenge: secrets. So my next secret is I can't stand the way having ME has started to control so many parts of my life, I normally put a brave face on it so people think things are better than they seem on the surface. I had a very useful appointment at a ME clinic yesterday, and hope to start some rehabilitation work soon that will really help. At the moment though there are days when I feel my ME is my master, and I am a puppet, merely going through the motions and unable to enjoy things that normally make me smile. I am also coming of the medication I started last month that has disturbed my sleep and dreams so badly. Seems ME has decided hypersensitivity to medication is another thing I have to deal with!

The album, Votive Offerings by Hordie, seeks to stimulate lyrically and entertain musically, covering a range from punk posing to love ballads, stopping off for some folk along the way. The album is delivered in two parts. Side one, The Growth God, turns a mirror on today's, deluded, stratified society whilst side two takes a peek at love!
The introduction track, "Working Hard", begins with a bang and a nice sonic atmosphere, with some vocal harmonization that almost made it feel vintage for me.
With the second song, "The Growth God", we hear what sounded like (at least to me) someone urinating into something. It caught me off guard and then that's when the song itself starts. It's got a clear vision. Some very nice instrumentation, that has a folksy flavor to it, while feeling alternative at its foundation. Some strings are added within the production and become a solid addition.
"Fly Me To The Moon" - It's when I hit this third track that I really started to dig Hordie's sound. It reminded me of elements of classic rock from the '60s/'70s, while the addition of the piano made me think of something like Americana. The vocal work, as well, allows me to feel as though the song has lived decades ago. The hook is simple and perfect. Great musicianship with the guitars, the solo rocked. The rhythm and soundscape of this track was hypnotic, it struck a nerve. I loved it.
"This Afluenza" features some sweet bass chords in the beginning, the riffs all throughout work extremely well. It feels moody and almost atmospheric. And then the production becomes much more layered, really starting to sound like an acid trip almost - and that's a compliment. The lyrics and song-writing begin to stick out more, and their expressive nature becomes apparent.
And then Hordie had to hit us with "Special Lady". I instantly smiled, and knew I was going to love this whole project. Such great instrumentation, alternative elements, the whole piece sounds nothing like the songs that came before it. It's just bursting with creativity, and because of the tracks that came before it, it makes this song that much more special. Now the concept aspect of the album is slowly beginning to sink in.
"Jump" transitions to something that feels vaguely familiar to the first few tracks, but again it still works. The album continues to work, with its theme and concept, and the final track here delivers. This was definitely a nice surprise.
