For decades, researchers have used the American bullfrog, Rana catesbeiana, as a model for studying the physiology and biomechanics of skeletal muscles. Thanks to its disproportionately large skeletal muscles, this common amphibian has played a critical role in helping to build the knowledge base for understanding how these muscles work in other organisms, including humans.

Contrary to the sign above, this is the office of an¬ Ostéopathie. Osteopathy is a therapeutic approach unconventional (alternative medicine) based on the idea that manual manipulation of the musculoskeletal system and myofascial help to relieve certain functional disorders. This Ostéopathie office resides in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and happens to have a picturesque entrance.
Saint-Rémy-de-Provence was the birthplace of Nostradamus, a 16th-century author of prophecies. The painter Vincent van Gogh was treated here in the psychiatric center at Monastery Saint-Paul de Mausole (1889–1890).
This is a homeowner's sign visible on Lakeway in Bellingham, Washington.
Today is September 14, 2006, & the number of American soldiers killed in Iraq is 2,676 or greater. It is not clear that the Pentagon includes deaths in hospitals. If hospital deaths are not included, the real number may be over 10,000. Over 35,000 wounded GIs have been evacuated from Iraq. Over 37,000 veterans of Iraq & Afghanistan are receiving treatment for mental disorders at V.A. hospitals. Over 46,000 are being treated for musculoskeletal problems. The U.N. estimated the 14,000 Iraqi civilians were killed during the first 6 months of 2006. The total since the invasion is either secret or was not recorded. The number of Iraqis wounded has not been revealed, either, but is probably known or is calculable because hospitals keep records.
It is estimated that over the next several decades the ultimate cost of medical treatment for GIs who served in Iraq & Afghanistan will greatly exceed one trillion dollars (at the present value of those dollars). The real cost of the invasion of Iraq in blood & treasure is thus, for now, invisible to the public, which is purposefully kept uninformed.
Neurological problem The emergency vet treatment of animals by acupuncture has been around for 3,000 years but has recently gained more popularity. Is it painful and what are the side effects? All the details inside.
Animal Care by Acupuncture Life is one of the five streams of animal medicine in Chinese medicine. Emergency clinics have been using this method for years, but while acupuncture has been used mainly for animals and horses, acupuncture is now used mainly to treat pets.
According to Chinese medicine, the human body and animals have main energy channels called meridians, through which the energy of qi passes. The energy of qi is life energy and in a healthy state it flows freely through these energy channels, but when there is shortage or excess energy, diseases and other problems can arise. Acupuncture comes to solve the problem of energy flow to restore the situation to normal.
How does an emergency vet perform acupuncture?
Acupuncture is performed by using sterile, thin disposable needles. Acupuncture is done according to the Chinese medicine theory, and the only difference between human and animal care lies in the various energy centers and in the various parts of the bodywhere they gently pierce the needles
How long does treatment take?
The length of treatment varies depending on the severity of the condition of the animal. While a simple problem can be eliminated in individual sessions compared to a more acute problem that could take several dozen treatments.
What causes acupuncture treatment?
For animals acupuncture can help in one or more of the following situations:
- Musculoskeletal problems such as arthritis or vertebrae problems
Neural damage
- Breathing problems such as asthma in cats
- Skin problems such as dermatitis or allergy
- Digestive problems such as diarrhea
- fertility problems
Seasonal diseases
In addition to these problems, acupuncture can help and treat sports injuries following running, jumping and swimming
Does it hurt animals?
If the needles are in their designated location, they do not cause pain. However, acupuncture treatment includes symptoms such as tingling, cramping or numbness that occur in humans, but animals may be alarmed. Usually during the treatment animals are in a very relaxed state and some even doze off.
Are there side effects?
Acupuncture side effects are rare but can occur. Sometimes the animal's medical condition worsens to 48 hours after treatment and other times the animals stay sleepy or older than normal for 24 hours after treatment. These effects are positive and are an indication that acupuncture is effective.

Xplore Engineering camp participant Charlie Saylor measures applied force at the Use the Force! session.
At this workshop, camp participants explore how biomedical engineers capture data about how our bodies move and what forces they generate – and see how this information helps us to understand and treat different diseases and disabilities of the musculoskeletal system.
Xplore Engineering is a two day camp designed for alumni and the children in their life entering the 4th through 7th grade. Each summer nearly 200 alums and their kids participate. Through a series of experiential workshops, participants get hands-on experience in a variety of engineering disciplines. They can choose sessions from 15 workshops ranging from neuroscience to self-driving cars.

Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre
An internationally recognised centre of excellence, providing care for patients with disabling or long-term musculoskeletal conditions and those suffering neurological disability.
The main part of the hospital has been completely rebuilt over a number of years.
Brief History
It began in 1871 as the Wingfield Convalescent Centre.
During the First World War it was a military hospital and was expanded by building a fresh air annexe of wooden buildings.
By 1929 the Wingfield Morris Hospital badly needed rebuilding and Lord Nuffield, then Sir William Morris, donated £70,000 to build new nurses' quarters, seven new wards and a massage department.
In 1936 Lord Nuffield announced another gift to Oxford Medical School. This gift was used to created five clinical chairs. Professor G. R. Girdlestone became the first Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1938.
During the Second World War the hospital was controlled by the War Office.
In 1948 it was designated as a regional orthopaedic centre and in 1956 it was renamed the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
In 1991 the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre became the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust.
In 2011 the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust merged with the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust to create The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust.
This trust currently has control of all three of Oxford's hospitals.
Chiropractic care is recommended for the cure and treatment of various musculoskeletal conditions (problems concerning the muscles, bones, joints, and their connective tissues, including the ligaments, cartilage, and tendons).

The first is a low cost 3D printed hand that can be used to mimic the human hand gestures remotely and wireless, whereby the operator uses a low cost data glove with haptic (sense of touch) feedback. Potential applications include hazardous handling (bomb disposal, toxic/radioactive material manipulation) and tele-surgery.
The second prototype is an anthropomorphic hand that is based on the musculoskeletal systems of the human hand. The goal is to obtain a device to communicate with deaf and deaf-blind person through fingerspelling.

My brief: "This logo retains the hand symbolisms of the original logo, representing the essential service-oriented theme of the Physical Therapy profession. In this rendition, the hands are arranged, open representing evolution of the practice; and emanating influence around the world (represented through the globe, another symbol retained from the original), which is the role Filipino therapists will take in the world scene. Within each hand and shape are embedded subtle symbolisms of the various fields and niches of the Philippine PT practice pediatric, geriatric, sports (light green area - people), orthopedic/musculoskeletal (dark green area spine symbol), neurologic, musuloskeletal (red hand EMG, ECG signals), academics, clinical teaching, paramedical, pulmonary, etc (blue hand caduceus, with human figure, book) The logo is arranged into a modern and eye-catching mark which can be presented in various formats and color schemes, ideal for many applications of this mark."

The anatomical difference in this picture is quite mind-blowing! The main cons of corset wearing were described as being muscular weakening and breathlessness. While in the short-term a corset may have supported the frame and even provided relief from back pain, long-term use would have resulted in muscular atrophy. Breathlessness occurred as compression of the chest reduced the wearer's lung capacity.

(9.0-6.8 mya, 1.28 m × 73 Kg ℮)
Serrasalmus rhombeus can bite with a force more than 30 times its weight, a remarkable feat yet unmatched among Vertebrata; if †Megapiranha paranensis did have similar musculoskeletal architecture in the lower jaws scaled up to its larger body size, then mechanical advantage @ mid-jaw (MA = 1.0) could have produced bite forces as high as 2,480 N to 9,498 N. With this amplified ℮ a 73 kg †M. paranensis biting attack would have had the same ferocity of a 3,000 kg C. carcharias.
