A fishing/ferry boat of the type that was used to take us from Janjira village ( in the background) to the fort. Power is four men wielding punts and sail, the crossing of approx 2 Km took 30 minutes! More smooth Fuji rendering on view here.

My DP3M atop my RRS BH55 head, waiting for the sunset on Murud beach, Maharashtra. Taken with my EOS 1Ds2, handheld. It was a beautiful evening but the sunset never quite lived up to it's promise. All the same, a very nice place to be of an October evening.
This is a little side-gate, it looks like a window from the outside. It is seaward facing, for a quick getaway.
This huge square inside the fort contained the palace of the siddi king. All that remains now is this beautiful doorway and a lot of sad broken stone edifices to remind us of the glory of those days...
The Incredible sea fort at Janjira, Maharashtra, well worth a visit, built by ( well nobody seems certain) over 500 years ago. A great place for photography, we only had 45 minutes before our boat left and it was unbelievably hot and humid and the light was extremely harsh, nevertheless the Foveon sensor in my DP2M was up to the job.
Sandpiper Resort, Murud - Janjira, at dusk. HDR with my Zeiss 21 mm Distagon/EOS 1Ds Mark 2 combo, tripod mounted on the balcony of our room. Looking quite exotic I thought.... twenty quid a night, full board. Recommended.
Murud Janjira means a lot me , I had falen madly in love with an American lady a few years back, I was totally besotted and wanted to marry her , come what may, my marriage was on the rocks literally, so I came here with my wife to get back to my own world, to pick up the pieces as they say.We spent a night here and began our life all over again..
The America of my dreams remained as a dream..
Being a Muslim I took it for granted I could have two wives and get away with it, wifes rolling pin and a staunch opposition from my sons and daughter got me back to my reality..the windmills of Alaska were not for me at all..
Don Quixote limped back home so to speak..
I gave up my dichotomy of Love forever ..
The Blog Goddess was a speed breaker it broke my jaws but spared my testicular fortitude.
Famous for being the only fort along India's Western coast that remained undefeated despite Dutch, Maratha and English East India Company attacks, Murud-Janjira, which was occupied by the Siddis, is the local name for a fort situated on an island just off the coastal village of Murud, in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, India

Evening light on Murud beach with my Ziess 21 mm Distagon on my trusty old 1Ds Mk2, tripod mounted and three bracket (gentle) HDR . I just love the textures in the sand that are thrown into relief by the low angle of the light.
This was sudden and unexpected luckily I was on the right side , it happened too fast, the old man was dragged quite a distance and in action sports such as this , such accidents are a rarity, specially at the start of the race, normally the action at the other end when the bullocks take a sharp turn while coming back , accidents do happen...
However the old man bore his injuries , he was an experienced hand..I felt sorry for him.

These are my early pictures I had just begun to learn panning , it was Mr Shreekanth Malushte who introduced me to this dare devil sport, at Alibagh and Mr Anil Bhartiya another great photojournalist ,and one of my teachers introduced me to Murud bullock cart racing event..
I have over the years not missed the Alibagh bullock cart race because of my proximity to Jayant Dhulap of the Indian Express group, he is my host and his wife Sharda and daughter Abha really overfeed me with Maharashtrian food that consists of Malvani fish fare .
Alibagh on Holi festival is a must visit for the bullock cart races.
