Is it a hatchback? Is it a Polo-style panel car? Is it a wagon? Is it a multipurpose vehicle? Å koda had lots of people guessing when it introduced the Roomster at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, and, as of this writing, I and many others still don't know what to call it a decade after the last Roomster was roosted from a Å koda factory.
Well, that's not completely accurate. I think I can call it forbidden fruit, because, as it was a Å koda, North Americans never saw it.
The Roomster was based on Volkswagen's A platform (the same platform the Golf is produced on) and it has a unique cargo arrangement with 40–20–40 split rear seats that can move longitudinally or transversely by removing the middle seat, can be folded forward or recline by seven degrees, or be removed entirely to form a flat surface for bulky loads. The best comparison I can make to it is to the old Ford Transit Connect microvan. A commercial version, marketed as the Roomster Praktik, had only the driver's seat and front passenger seat.
When the Roomster was discontinued in 2015, it was not replaced, at least not directly. The Å koda Yeti crossover (which does look like an abominable snowman) filled the market gap.
