To celebrate my survival of a morning cinema visit with our grandson yesterday ...
The Cinedrome was first opened in 1919 as a music hall and theatre. In 1924 it was converted into a cinema to show silent movies with an accompanying piano.
Actually, the image title is just a gentle and affectionate joke because the cinema, belying its rather battered exterior, was completely renovated and was renamed “The Cinedrome” in 1997 after 25 years of being called “The Capitol”.
It now has full Dolby Digital Stereo sound, a new enlarged screen and 153 new luxury seats. It is open in Padstow's busier periods and shows the latest releases on a daily alternating schedule which allows visitors to watch two films during a week's holiday!

People seeking employment attend a job fair that attracted more than 80 companies looking for employees at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex in Montgomery, Ala., Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016. More than 3,300 job seekers registered at the job fair. The job fair was a partnership with the Alabama Department of Labor, the City of Montgomery, and WSFA. For the first event of their three-month Engagement Party residency, Slanguage brought "Psychicinema Multiplex", their ongoing series of film screenings, to MOCA. For this iteration, Slanguage presented films in order to respond, in part, to the museum’s landmark 1992 exhibition "Helter Skelter: LA Art in the 1990s". In assembling these works and creating a carnival-like environment for viewing them, Slanguage sought to reexamine the dissonance and dark side of the psyche, Los Angeles, and the art world, pushing those ideas further by addressing Los Angeles’s polarization and presenting visions for its future.
The "front" of the display panel for my first, overly ambitious, microcontroller project. This is the prototype 4-digit display, you know, so you can see what delay you're entering on the yet-to-be constructed keypad (or, more likely, purchased, because this was not fun, and took a very long time to make).
the theater has been community owned for years and years. There is a larger 5 theater multiplex that is part of the same deal but plays the newer films at newer prices. This one has 5$ showings of a variety of things, independant social cause flicks, a film festival and sometimes small scale concerts with sometimes local and sometimes big scale performers. A couple really neat things make this a stand out, one, i started going to Saturday movies here when I was 11 and admission was 25 cents (while I am pretty old this was not at the turn of the century but 39 years ago). the movies were old and often on TV. but the atmosphere was wonderful and every kid in town eventually spent a Saturday at the salmar eating buttery popcorn and watching Sinbad save something! The dollars go into a community trust and over the years it has become quite able and donates money to a lot of wonderful community projects. the space can be rented out for fund raisers to show a movie wherein the proceeds go to various organizations, community living, daycares, the safe society, basically it is just a unique and kind of wonderful part of where I live and now it is this fabulous berry color that is like a cherry on top. So, hats off to the Salmar, the building and the foundation both strong to the core. Oh, and the kids who work there are like city employees and get a decent wage for their coveted student jobs. The whole thing is a smile.
