Like most parents, Common Loons (Gavia immer) with chicks master the art of multi-tasking their own needs with those of their offspring. This adult is fishing for growing chicks and bringing back prey for supper but also had a need to strech out, too, hence the flapping while fishing. Taken in Lincoln County on June 24, 2016.

I grew this from seeds I've collected & cultivated for the past 3 years. And I ended up with a multitude of colors & variations.

I have only a few obsessions in this world... ribbon is one of them, and SPRINKLES is another. Here are some of them, of course I have a whole list of more I'd like to get...

Now, I need to go put them all back in their jars...

To answer the question of "Where do you get all those sprinkles?", the simple (but unhelpful) answer is everywhere! So, the more detailed answer is I've gotten some of the basic ones and some holiday ones from Michael's, Walmart and Target (these stores mostly just carry the Wilton brand). Crate and Barrel sells some cute sprinkles on occasion (mostly at holiday times). Sur La Table has a nice selection of sanding sugars (by India Tree). The best on-line site I've found that has a really wonderful selection and good prices is Country Kitchen Sweetart, www.countrykitchensa.com/catalog/subcategory.aspx?T=1&...

Since I'm in California and can't buy any metallic ones, the small round silver ones are from a friend in Pennsylvania, the larger multi color ones are from a friend in New Zealand (as well as the pink and white butterflies in the top row).

It also serves as a corner post for the garden fence. ;-)

The Hydrangeas are starting to bloom. I like this one with both purple and blue on it.

I have finally started taking photos again since my return to Lucca (Tuscany, Italy). The tower with the Ilex tree atop it is from the 14th century and is called the Torre Guinigi for important silk merchant, Guinigi.

A departure from my recent uploads but a terrific landscape nonetheless. An ore train headed by DF7G diesel 5183, is seen traversing along the valley floor surrounded by magnificent multi-coloured hills near Baiyin in Gansu Province, China. Originating from the nearby Shenbutong copper mine and operated by the China non-ferrous metal mining company, the train is travelling to Baiyin. The sparsely populated stunning scenery is breath-taking and the diesel headed train was a bonus whilst waiting for the steam hauled passenger train we photographed - www.flickr.com/photos/99220921@N03/23499261880/in/datepos.... The yellow hills in the background on the right are composed of mining spoil.

My favorite tool. The multi-tool. I can probably do 80% of the jobs I have that require a tool with a good multi-tool. It saves me from scrambling through the house looking for the right screw driver, etc.

This photo is a bit of a change of pace for me. I normally don’t do B&W but the subject seemed perfect for B&W. I also usually go for sharp focusing from end to end, but thought the cascade of different tools would look good going out of focus. I also didn’t clean my subject because it is, well, a tool and gets dirty.

HMM!

Wernberg convent perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking a bend in the Drau River. The building run by the Sisters of the Precious Blood is actually in part a Renaissance castle dating back to the early 13th century. Today it houses a nunnery, education centre and guesthouse with its own farm and a well-stocked shop selling its produce. This was where we had dinner before going to Villach for the night.
