Washington DC, May 15, 2014. Social justice activists rally in front of the FCC to oppose proposed net neutrality rule changes that would essentially end the free and open internet which has worked miraculously well for almost twenty years now. Shortly after noon the FCC voted in favor of considering the odious changes allowing 'pay for play' fast lanes in the internet (and the implied threat of slower speed diminished service for those who don't pony up...), subject to "public comment" which you know will be a sham exercise leading to an already determined conclusion in favor of the big telecoms. This plan was so evil even Amazon and Microsoft signed off on a letter to the FCC opposing it (Apple was missing in action...) but I'm sure it was not for altruistic reasons. Hopefully 'cable' and TV sets will soon be a thing of the past. In this photograph activist Kevin Huang of Fight For The Future addresses the crowd.

Thousands of people gathered in San Francisco for “Families Belong Together”, a protest against the Trump regime’s cruel and inhumane immigration policies. This national day of action took place on June 30, 2018 and was organized by MoveOn, with local partners Indivisible San Francisco, Women's March SF and many more Bay Area civic groups. The morning march started at 10am in Dolores Park and ended in front of San Francisco’s Civic Center, where a rally was held from 11am to 1pm. These photos are from the rally only.

People from diverse ethnic backgrounds participated in this rally, from latinos to muslims and asian-americans. Musicians included folk singer Joan Baez, who led a sing-along of “De Colores”, along with rapper Gina Madrid and singers of all ages. Speakers represented a wide variety of community voices, as well as elected officials such as Mayor Mark Farrell and Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer. Many of our friends joined this rally, including Sheri Cooper, Clancy Bounds, Priscilla Wheeler, Evelyn Messinger and members of the Mill Valley Community Action Network (MVCAN).

People held many creative signs demanding that we reunite families torn apart by our racist government, end their detention and abolish ICE, which carries out the Trump’s “zero tolerance” policies. Others participants focused on defeating Republicans in the midterm elections and taking action to impeach Trump and his accomplices.

"Families Belong Together" brought us all closer together, inspired and informed us, and energized us to push back against hate and racism -- through lpeaceful resistance.

Session description:

Social media is increasing hate, weaponizing the filter bubble, and aiding tyrants. But it doesn't have to. Eli Pariser led MoveOn.org during the Bush era, coined the phrase "filter bubble" in the bestselling book of the same name, and now leads Upworthy. In this talk, Eli Pariser shares what he's learned in nearly two decades of organizing and storytelling about how to use stories to help Davids beat Goliaths, bring people together across divides, and make the world better.

Now this is it.

Finally.

Epsilon simply are the best and this is their best record (the second out of three), with Reichelsheim, one of the finest rock songs ever.

Not Krautrock in the strict (Faust, Can, Neu) sense, but progressive hard rock from Germany with a heavy hammond organ, great guitarwork (here featuring guest guitarist Rainer Marz, another Bacillus superstar) and Germany's best singer ever, Michael Winzkowski (later tried a solo career as Michael Wynn - brilliant music too, but a complete failure commercially). A bit like early Virus, or Nektar on Sounds Like this....

Cover by Klaus Holitzka, who also painted this. He's still an active painter today, but unfortunately his style has changed.

Protest Is Part of the National ‘Families Belong Together’ Day of Action With More Than 710 Events Nationwide

-- On Saturday, June 30th, [residents will rally at various locations as part of the Families Belong Together national day of action to protest the Trump Administration’s policy of forcibly separating children from their parents, the detention of families, and the fact that the Trump Administration has failed to reunite thousands of children with their parents.

WHEN: Saturday, June 30th. [TIME AM/PM TIME ZONE]

WHERE: [LOCATION]. [ADDRESS]

The [CITY] protest is part of a National “Families Belong Together” Day of Action featuring more than 710 events in all 50 states and an anchor protest in Lafayette Square in Washington DC. Tens of thousands of people are expected to participate across the country. Specifically, the protesters will demand that the Trump Administration:

•Reunite families now. Permanently end family separation and immediately reunify those that have been separated. ICE must release parents immediately so that ORR can reunify them with their children.

•End family detention. Children and families deserve due process, not indefinite imprisonment. Children do not belong in baby cages and internment-like camps. Family incarceration is not the solution to family separation.

•End ‘Zero Humanity.’ Reverse the Trump administration’s policy that created this crisis and chaos to begin with. Parents should not be criminally prosecuted for doing what all parents do, which is bring their children to safety. This horrible nightmare for families will only end when Trump permanently stops his 100% prosecution policy.

Say it loud, say it clear,

Immigrants are welcome here!

Say it loud, say it clear,

Refugees are welcome here!

Repeat“Courage” (listen):

Courage, my friend, you do not walk alone.

We will, walk with you, and sing your spirit home.

*Replace “Courage” with other words like “families” “immigrants” or “children”

When immigrant rights are under attack,

What will we do? Unite, fight back!

When refugee rights are under attack,

What will we do? Unite, fight back!

Repeat“May The Life I Lead” (listen):

Let the life I lead, speak for me. (x2)

When I get to the end of the road, and lay down my heavy load,

Let the life I lead, speak for me.

El pueblo unido

jamás será vencido!

(The people united, will never be defeated)

RepeatTo the tune of “Blessings” by Chance the Rapper (listen):

We gonna rise up, rise up till it’s won (x2)

When the people rise up, the powers come down (x2)

They try to stop us, but we keep comin’ back (x2)

Love, not hate, makes America great!

Repeat

“We are Family” by Sister Sledge

We are family, I got all my people with me

We are family, Get up ev'rybody and sing

We are family, I got all my people with me

We are family, Get up ev'rybody and sing

Tom and Susan Johnson. This is their first demonstration, they said, and while none of their three children (two military age) are in Iraq, they stood in solidarity with anguished Gold Star Mothers like Cindy Sheehan. They say they were against the war "from the get-go" but that Sheehan was an "inspiration" for them to attend this vigil. Susan said she nearly drove out to Crawford, Texas, instead, and that she had been seeking a more concrete form of action than sending checks to causes she supported.

Look it up. It's worth checking out. I signed the MoveOn petition.
