The life boat station at Lytham St Annes was probably built in the correct place originally, however due to mans intervention the sea only reaches this point now during the occasional high winter tides. The lifeboat is now transported across the sand by a motorised launch vehicle to reach the sea, usually two to three miles further up the coast towards Blackpool

Bintan Island is an island in the Riau archipelago of Indonesia. Singapore, the closest major city, is a 45-50 minute trip by motorised catamaran across the Singapore Strait from Bintan Resort area in the northwest of the island.

Situé au nord de Makassar, le port Paotere est le port de pêche traditionnel de la ville, avec ses grands voiliers Bugis (appelés Phinisi) de toutes les tailles et toutes les couleurs amarrés de toutes parts. Bien qu’étant pour la plupart motorisés, les pêcheurs utilisent quand même toujours les voiles des bateaux pour naviguer.

Cromer beach and pier in 'natural' sepia from the rather dingy conditions!
The lifeboat house & slipway at the end of the pier are clearly visible. These were added to the pier in 1923 to house Cromer's first motorised lifeboat. Prior to this the lifeboat had to be dragged across the shingle before it could be launched, requiring much man-power before tractors came along to speed up & make launching much less onerous.
The Goodwill Bridge is a pedestrian and cyclist bridge which spans the Brisbane River in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The bridge connects the South Bank Parklands in South Brisbane to Gardens Point in the Brisbane CBD.
The Goodwill Bridge was opened on 21 October 2001 and takes its name from the Goodwill Games, which were held in Brisbane that year. The bridge does not carry any motorised traffic, it is shared by pedestrians, cyclists and inline skaters.
Kratié (Cambodge) - Tel un assassin, je reviens toujours sur les lieux de mes crimes photographiques. J’attends parfois quelques années, mais je reviens toujours. Pour une ambiance, une lumière particulière, une rencontre… Preuve qu’en photo, la récidive existe aussi.
En revenant à Kratié, après un premier séjour en 2019, j’ai voulu voir si je n’étais pas passé à côté d’une scène intéressante ou si j’aurais l’opportunité de compléter une série. De toute façon, j’avais suffisamment apprécié cette ville longée par le Mékong, afin d’y revenir pour le plaisir.
J’y avais pris de nombreuses photos, notamment de ce que l’on appelle abusivement le « village flottant ». Une arnaque pour touristes car il ne s’agit en réalité que de baraques en tôle pour pêcheurs. Elles abritent des moteurs diesel qui actionnent les treuils chargés de remonter les filets. Un outil de travail pour ces professionnels de la pêche en eau douce, qui eux, pas fous, vivent avec leurs familles plus confortablement au sec, sur les rives du fleuve.
Cette année, manque de chance, le niveau du Mékong est particulièrement bas. Plutôt que de nager entre deux eaux, pour le plus grand profit des pêcheurs, les poissons sont bien planqués dans la vase. A défaut pêcher en grandes quantités, les pêcheurs parviennent quand même à capturer assez de poissons pour nourrir leurs familles. Les treuils à moteur diesel étant inefficaces en dessous un certain niveau d’eau, dans ces conditions, la pêche se pratique en barques. Les cabanes flottantes et leurs filets motorisés sont au chômage technique, jusqu’à la prochaine crue.
A l’instar des pêcheurs, à défaut de rentrer complètement bredouille de ma pêche photographique, mes photos n’apportent rien de plus que celles de 2019. Le coucher de soleil est toujours aussi plaisant, mais l’endroit est plus désert et de nombreuses cabanes flottantes ont disparu. Précision ; les personnages sur le banc de sable jouent au foot.
I always come back to the scene of my crimes
Kratié (Cambodia) - Like an assassin, I always return to the scene of my photographic crimes. Sometimes I wait a few years, but I always come back. For an atmosphere, a particular light, an encounter... Proof that in photography, recidivism also exists.
Returning to Kratié, after a first stay in April-May 2019, I wanted to see if I had not missed an interesting scene or if I would have the opportunity to complete a series. Anyway, I had enjoyed this city bordered by the Mekong enough to come back. I had taken many photos there, in particular of what is wrongly called the “floating village”. A scam for tourists because it is really only tin shacks for fishermen. They house diesel engines that operate the winches responsible for raising the nets. A work tool for these professionals in freshwater fishing, who themselves, not crazy, live with their families more comfortably in the dry, on the banks of the river.
This year, bad luck, the level of the Mekong is particularly low. Rather than swimming between two waters, for the greatest benefit of the fishermen, the fish are well hidden in the mud. Failing to fish in large quantities, the locals still manage to catch enough fish to feed their families. Diesel engine winches are ineffective below a certain level of water, in these conditions, fishing is practiced in boats. The floating cabins and their motorized nets are out of service until the next flood.
Like the fishermen, failing to return completely empty-handed from my photographic fishing, my photos bring nothing more than those of 2019. The sunset is still as sumptuous, but the place is more deserted and many floating cabins have disappeared. Accuracy ; the characters on the sandbank are playing football.

Ichibata Electric Railway Co. Ltd. (一畑電鉄) is a private railway company that operates trains between Matsue (松江) and Izumo Taisha supplementing the railway network of Japan Rail West.

Their passenger volume peaked in 1967, and the private railway company is now suffering from deficit due to the progress of motorisation. Students who are under driving license age are an important source of income for them.

This photograph at sunset was taken last Saturday evening near Qingdao International Yacht Club.
There were various moored yachts, and a colourful motorised rubber dinghy, seen in the foreground. The sun was setting, and could be seen in between buildings. It was a relaxing time watching the sunset and waiting for the light show later in the evening.
Debout, le Nikon Z8 bien calé entre les mains, Dixie testait le zoom motorisé avec une concentration toute relative ... vite trahie par un grand sourire amusé.
À chaque mouvement de l’objectif, son éclat de rire répondait au ronron mécanique.
Rien de posé, rien de calculé : juste la joie spontanée d’une prise de vue où la photographe devient presque le modèle !

The Gili Islands are an archipelago of three small islands — Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air — just off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia.
The islands are a popular destination for tourists looking for a remote island experience. Each island has several small resorts, usually consisting of a collection of huts for tourists, a small pool and restaurant. Most local inhabitants live on Trawangan in a township stretching along its east side just inland (which is also where most recent development is taking place). Automobiles and motorised traffic is prohibited on the islands by local ordinance, so the preferred method of transportation is by foot and bicycle or the horse-drawn carriage called a cidomo. Diving in and around the Gilis is also popular due to the abundance of marine life and attractive coral formations.

The Windsor Bridge or Windsor Town Bridge, an iron and granite arch bridge over the River Thames, is located between the towns of Windsor and Eton in the English county of Berkshire. The Thames Path crosses the river here. The bridge carries pedestrian and cycle traffic, and crosses the Thames just above Romney Lock. It is a Grade II listed structure.
Construction on the current bridge was started in 1822 and it opened on 1 June 1824. The bridge has three arches, each comprising seven cast iron segments, and is supported in mid-stream by two granite piers.
Built as a road bridge, tolls were originally levied on traffic crossing the bridge. Following protests and a court case, The Mayor &c. of New Windsor and ano. v Joseph Taylor, which went to the highest court at the time, these tolls were scrapped in 1897. In the 20th century the bridge carried the A332, the busy main road between Slough and Windsor.
In 1970, cracks were discovered in some of the cast iron segments, and despite local protests, but with almost equal support, it was decided to close the bridge to all motorised traffic. All such traffic between Windsor and Eton must now travel via the Queen Elizabeth Bridge on the Royal Windsor Way (formerly the Windsor and Eton relief road) 0.25 miles (0.40 km) to the west. For those approaching from Old Windsor or Runnymede, the Albert Bridge provides an alternative route via Datchet's High Street.
In 2002 the bridge was refurbished, with repairs to the structure and new parapets including integral lighting. The bridge deck was replaced using Yorkstone and seating areas provided. The bridge remains in use by pedestrians and cyclists only; it provides an excellent walking route from central Windsor to Eton's High Street, and a good viewing spot for both the river and Windsor Castle.

The usual gaggle of evening wanderers was accompanied by a motorised paraglider which seemed at the time to add somewhat of a complementary dimension to the scene. Anyways it was one of those drab sea spray misty evenings.

During the tourist off-season, walking the lanes along the Yulong River in the Yangshuo district is a peaceful and solitary experience, with no unpleasant surprises, except maybe the smoke from burning rice stubble, a practise that is fortunately declining. Everything motorised seems to be electric and (sometimes dangerously) silent. Guangxi Autonomous Region borders Vietnam, is home to many minorities, languages and religions, and is one of the top tourist destinations in China, second only to Xinjiang. Interestingly, there are over 70 Taiwanese companies invested in Guangxi and it is a popular destination for tourists from Taiwan island.
Here you can enjoy the stunning scenery and views of country life on a non-motorised raft in the traditional way with a gondolier who steers you over the breakwaters past many small mud-brick villages and farmlands

From August till November 2024 I travelled largely overland from Namibia to Cameroon. One of the highlights was Gabon - Central Africa.
Eighty-five percent of its territory is covered in rainforest of which 10 - 15% are National Parks.
This image was taken in the Ivindo national park at the Kongou Falls (Chutes Kongou). If you are very lucky you may find a forest elephant traversing the falls. There is plenty of wildlife in these forests but difficult to spot because of its density.
The Kongou falls stretch over an area of around 3km, in the middle of the rainforest and part of the Ivindo river. They are not easy to reach taking a 10 - 15 hour bus drive from the capital Libreville, followed by a 3 - 5 hour trip by motorised dugout canoe and lastly a 3 hour walk to reach them. There are no villages, no roads, no telephone or internet. Only tracks cleared by machete and the only way out is the way you came in.
An extraordinary place!

This is a rare sight in Australia these days. A building where carriages were built since 1864. This is the ornate upstairs residence, but at the back of the building on Paterson Street the workshops existed where carriages were manufactured for locals in the 19th century. This historic building sits right across the road from the Launceston Fire Station.
But the story of Frederick Paine doesn't end with building carriages for horses. In fact he saw the writing on the wall and is responsible for building the first ever motorised vehicle in Launceston in 1908 at this very site.. www.julianburgess.com.au/single-post/2019/09/24/praise-fo...

Il est remis au goût du jour avec des versions modernes motorisées nettement plus imposantes (caïque ketch ou goélette) disposant de tout le confort pour des croisières côtières et appréciées pour leur construction en bois.

The Wyre Estuary Ferry (colloquially known as the Fleetwood-to-Knott End Ferry) is a ferry crossing owned and operated by Wyre Marine Services in Fleetwood, Lancashire, England.[1] The 0.21 miles (0.34 km) crossing of the River Wyre, which is funded by Lancashire County Council and Wyre Borough Council,[2] takes around five minutes to complete.[3] By road, the journey between the two points is 13 miles (21 km), which takes around thirty-five minutes.[4]
The ferry operates daily between 7:45 AM and 5:45 PM, and can carry up to thirty-five passengers. No motorised vehicles are permitted.[1] The current ferry is the 34-seat Wyre Rose.
Luzzus are sturdy boats with a double-ended hull. The design of the Luzzu, like that of another Maltese boat, the dgħajsa, is believed to date back to Phoenician times. The design has survived because it tends to be sturdy and stable even in bad weather. Originally, the luzzu was equipped with sails although nowadays almost all are motorised, with onboard diesel engines being the most common.
Luzzus are brightly painted in shades of yellow, red, green and blue, and the bow is normally pointed with a pair of eyes. These eyes may be the modern survival of an ancient Phoenician custom (also practiced by the ancient Greeks and Egyptians); they are referred to as the Eye of Horus or of Osiris. They are said to protect the fishermen while at sea. Wikipedia
