Known in Thailand as "Ruea Hang Yao", the long-tail boats are light and overpowered. They get their curious name from the length of their propeller.
Built in 1824 and rebuit in 1884 the bridge is now closed to vehicular traffic due to its weakening structural integrity. The bridge was built prior to the current age of motorised traffic.

Australian feral camels are feral populations of dromedaries. Imported into Australia from British India and Afghanistan during the 19th century for transport and construction during the colonisation of the central and western parts of Australia, many were released into the wild after motorised transport replaced the use of camels in the early 20th century

…rubbish really. It’s only when you get up close and personal with prewar autos do you get the distinct impression that they were basically motorised prams.
Having taken in sunrise at Otterbield Bay we made our way to Buttermere. I hadn't been here for about a year and my heart sank when Gatesgarth and the field opposite were both full of campervans. A little further on and the gate to the shoreline to take this shot was open and the adjacent field had 100's of vans, tents and motorhomes in it.
It was the week of the annual Buttermere Bash with music, food and all things paragliding related. Not ones to miss an opportunity we slowly took the track down to the shoreline.
A bleary eyed man appeared from a tent and marched over to us. "You're parked on the landing strip, you gonna be long mate? These guys are animals and will be up flying shortly."
About an hour max was my reply.
"Do me a favour, I'm security, just swing round next to my tent. You'll be good to go all day if you wish. I wont tell," he said with a huge grin and a wink.
His no nonsense, laid back attitude set us up for a wonderful hour of shooting and set the tone for a super morning around Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater.
We took our shots, thanked him as he tucked into his breakfast and watched as several motorised paragliders took off.
The less said about the rest of the day the better. It was impossibly busy and highly frustrating at times but he was great!

The Aqua Luna, known in Cantonese as the Cheung Po Tsai (张保仔), is a Chinese Junk operating in Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong. It was launched in 2006, and while it is named the Aqua Luna in English, in Cantonese it is named after the 19th-century Chinese pirate Cheung Po Tsai.
The Aqua Luna was built from scratch; it took a Hong Kong craftsman 18 months to construct using traditional shipbuilding methods under the supervision of a 73-year-old shipbuilder.
The ship can accommodate 80 passengers in addition to the crew. It is 28 metres (92 ft) long, and has three crimson sails arranged in a junk rig style. However, the sails are purely decorative, and the barge is motorised.

South-facing view of the Tradeston Bridge.
The Tradeston Bridge (Scots: Tredstoun Brig, colloquially known as the squiggly bridge) is a pedestrian bridge across the River Clyde in Glasgow which opened on 14 May 2009. It links the districts of Anderston (on the north bank) to Tradeston (on the south bank) – the aim of the bridge being to aid the regeneration of Tradeston by giving it a direct link to the city's financial district on the western side of the city centre.
The design was prepared by Dissing+Weitling, a Danish architectural firm, with the UK engineers Halcrow Group. The bridge was built by BAM Nuttall.
It cost £7 million to construct and is used by pedestrians and cyclists with no motorised traffic being allowed upon it. The span is horizontally curved in an S shape with outward canting on both curves

Positioned around a mile and a half from where we were staying, Tarn Hows is a picturesque Tarn which is visited by over half a million visitors who walk around it.
Our visit this time was an eye opener. As we approached, Marc became terrified. Only a couple of years ago, I pushed Marc around this tarn in his wheelchair and we enjoyed the nature of the landscape. It was quite a push in his manual wheelchair - though it is advertised as accessible, in truth, motorised scooters or wheelchair are needed.
As we approached and reached this point, there is a sharp downhill stretch of road bending around a hidden curve. Marc's grip on the seat at the side of me tightened and his knuckles turned white. "stop, stop, stop" he screamed!
I pulled over, but he did not relax. I managed a quick photo out of the car window, but headed back the way we came, with the terror left behind.
What triggered this reaction to somewhere we had been previously remains unknown. I know his condition is worsening and maybe it was the journey making him travel sick, maybe his poor eyesight is affecting him in a greater way, maybe he was having a seizure, and absence, right at that moment which sent him into a panic, maybe ...
sometimes we never find out the cause of a reaction like this, but we have a photograph, and as we look back at it now, he can laugh at his memory of my stopping the car and turning around.
From here, we went back to the village, and had some Grasmere Gingerbread. After a calmer wheel-walk around the village. Calm returned.
Have a lovely day everyone :-))

VITAL SPARK, (ex-EILEAN EISDEAL, ex-ELSEDA, ex-VIC 72), was built by Brown's Shipyard, Hull, in 1944, and was sold out of naval service at Devonport Dockyard (where she had been a stores carrier) in 1968, and was then motorised and renamed ELSEDA, based at Troon as a cargo vessel. In 1972, she was bought by an owner based on the Isle of Mull, and worked around the islands dredging coal from sunken vessels. In 1984, she was sold to an owner of Easdale Island, near Oban, and was renamed EILEAN EASDEAL to run a inter-island cargo service around the Western Isles until 1994 (when the Scottish Office withdrew its subsidy for Scottish Shipping). In 2001, she was brought to the Inveraray Maritime Museum, where she still is, and in 2006, she was re-registered as VITAL SPARK, the name of the ficitional puffer that appeared in the Para Handy books by Neil Munro.
Another defining feature of Central Park's sustainability is a cantilevered heliostat, pictured here. Suspended from the 28th floor of One Central Park's east tower, it serves not only as a predominant design element to the building but as a way of reflecting light to the gardens and atrium below. It operates through a series of motorised mirrors that are positioned 100 metres below the cantilever on the rooftop of the west tower.
Daylight is automatically tracked from these mirrors and the light is reflected up to the cantilever. 220 fixed reflecting panels are positioned across the underbelly of the cantilever and are able to then bounce light throughout the retail atrium, pedestrian corridor, pool terrace and communal areas. On the upper side of the cantilever a sky garden has been erected. At night the cantilever is transformed into an LED light display.

Bring a 38 metre (124 foot) Dutch Barge across the Channel, sail it round the South Coast, up the River Severn to Chepstow, then up the River Wye to Hereford, which had not been navigated by any motorised vessel of any size in nearly 150 years - and then 23 years later, return back down the Wye, including passing over the famous Symonds Yat Rapids, to Sharpness for a re-fit - Impossible?
The Barge crossed the Channel, rounded the South Coast and turned into the River Severn Estuary. At Chepstow she joined the River Wye, navigating several tight, well known bridges and then the famous Symonds Yat Rapids. The journey to Hereford of 75 miles was to take longer than planned due to low river levels that summer and she reached her final mooring just above the Old Wye Bridge, Hereford on the 11th November 1989, the actual journey time was 20 hours spread over the 6 month period.
I helped to build this (Crumbles Castle) 1973/4
Made largely of granite setts and leftover cement that 'ReadyMix' donated (and the cement we mixed manually till we got a motorised mixer). The walls are 3 feet thick at ground level,
(skin of 2 rows of setts filled with cages and concrete) so are not just going to fall down! I built the shuttering for the 'Main' beam (and poured the concrete around the steel cages that reinforced the huge 'Beam' that the 'Big Tower' sits on. (see 'Crumbles' Album)

Bruges is a town in Flanders, the northern portion of Belgium. Comparatively refined and conventional given its petite size, it is one of the best conserved pre-motorised towns in Europe and provides the type of beauty hardly obtainable anywhere else. Bruges is a postcard ideal halt on any trip of Europe. Once over the surrounding canal and within the city walls, Bruges closes in around you with street after street of delightful ancient houses and a canal always close-by..

The Gili Islands are an archipelago of three small islands — Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air — just off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia.
The islands are a popular destination for tourists looking for a remote island experience. Each island has several small resorts, usually consisting of a collection of huts for tourists, a small pool and restaurant. Most local inhabitants live on Trawangan in a township stretching along its east side just inland (which is also where most recent development is taking place). Automobiles and motorised traffic is prohibited on the islands by local ordinance, so the preferred method of transportation is by foot and bicycle or the horse-drawn carriage called a cidomo. Diving in and around the Gilis is also popular due to the abundance of marine life and attractive coral formations.
