Brand "Suppenkasper" ("Soup clown"), a soup made of chicken/tuna with fine pieces of meat. Timmy does not like the meat pieces, so I have to pour the soup through a sieve :-)))

I like the brand "Suppenkasper", it really is a genius name !

ENG: How do we want to live in the future? The Futurium motivates its guests to engage with different future perspectives and possibilities, and to do so in a playful way: various scenarios, an exhibition, a future lab and a forum for dialogue and discussion invite you to develop your own attitude.

The FUTURIUM building was opened on 5 September 2019 and is a kind of future museum and thus aims to answer open questions about the future. Admission is free and anyone can visit it not far from Berlin's main railway station. I personally can only recommend it. If only because the roof terrace (skywalk) offers a beautiful panoramic view over Berlin's city centre.

Awake at 4am I attempt to motivate myself. Coffee first, and then the wanting of a full memory card drives me out the front door and speeding down the street. But where to go? I did not have a plan. What is your go-to when you just need some photography time?

It’s been a while since I shot a still life, so, motivated by #LeonVanKemenade, I used real money (65p) for a pepper from the Co-op. Not quite up to Edward Weston’s standard but even he had to shoot more than one.

Today was one of those lazy days when it comes to photography, I kept putting off picking up the camera and finally as the light was starting to sink I figured I'd better get moving.

What better for a day of procrastinating than a photo of a motivator... that and I was a little stumped on inspiration and coffee is always a good model!

Anyway hope everyone has had a good day, and a Happy Independence Day to all my American friends!

Germany, Hamburg, Alster, “Binnen Alster“, meaning literally Inner Alster.

For Hamburg the small river crossing the city is an important environmental feature & greatly defines its cityscape. Through ponding of the river in the 13th century, two artificial lakes, the Außenalster, Outer Alster & the smaller Binnenalster were created in central Hamburg. These two lakes & the surrounding parks serve as important recreational areas in the heart of the city.

The 1.6 km² large lake & the smaller lake, divided by two bridges, in the middle of the city, is the perfect place for sailing, canoeing & rowing; not just for sportspeople but also for city people who prefer a boat trip on a mild summer evening or just “hanging” around the lake for leisurely time & to relax.

Of course she was motivating me to stay home and give her cheese instead of going for a bike ride… but still motivating me.

From my blog (oldlenses.blogspot.ca/2015/10/signs-that-you-are-addicted...):

G.A.S = Gear Acquisition Syndrome. A disease that affects mostly men. It infects the central reasoning area of the brain and makes men vulnerable into thinking more gear make them better photographers, and thus buying gear that they don't need. There is no known cure, but there is a silver lining; some men are able to recover as the photographs they make shift from pictures of cameras, lenses, brick walls, and resolution charts to other form of pictures.

You made penholders out of broken lenses

You have a box you call treasure that's full of parts from dismantled cameras and lenses.

You hope that you can use them to repair lenses/cameras, but deep down you know that will never happen because that's why they became parts in the first place.

You use a stack of filter rings in place of a hood

You have a dozen rolls of exposed film in the drawer from 1998, but never developed

To reach this place you have to climb bare foot 700 steps. This old lady was not able to stand straight but she climbed these many cumbersome steps so that she can pray in this famous Jain holy place.

Austria, Graz, Murinsel the Mur island is an artificial floating platform in the middle of the Mur river. The Mur island became one of the Graz landmarks & was designed by New York artist Vito Acconci on the occasion of city becoming the 2003 European Capital of Culture. The building is shaped like a gigantic sea shell & measures 47 m in length, connected with two footbridges to both sides of the riverbanks. The centre of the platform forms an amphitheatre, beneath the twisted round arena is a café.

Day 312 (v 12.0) - when needs must

One of the key motivators of my work is preservation; The desire to create something of permanence in my life as a means of validation. Looking at history, it's clear that this notion of art as legacy is nothing new. Rulers across the centuries were compelled to create enduring monuments and commission works of art in order to immortalize themselves. Some succeeded, but most did not. As history continually reveals, there is little we can do to preserve ourselves. Our petty grasps at eternal life are no match for time. The digital mediums in which we now work will become obsolete, our records will decay, and our very existence will soon be subject to extinction. It's a scary fact that all we can really cling to is the moment at hand.

I collaborated on this piece with Chris. He had the idea to do a photo of me as a mummy and I mentioned the concept of self-preservation and we both went to work. He spent over two hours wrapping me, plus 3 trips back and forth to the store to buy more ace bandages because we kept running out. He also captured me at this very low angle, which I would not have been able to get on my own. I'm so lucky to have a nerdy artist friend who likes to do this with me in his spare time :)

Captured in a nearby street in my home village during an evening walk (we have a curfew due to Corona measures from midnight till 5 am).

At night everything looks different. Light becomes a precious thing, motivating the photographer to look deeper into the camera settings to use all available light and playing with perspective, contrast and composite.
