Kayla yanked Adrienne behind a dumpster a few yards from the door, pressing her back against the cold metal as she scanned the alley. It was the same narrow passage they’d jumped to upon arriving at the restaurant.
“What was that about?” Adrienne murmured, her voice slightly unsteady. “I was just starting to feel the wine.”
Kayla held up a finger to her lips, a quiet shhh escaping her.
Just then, the side door flew open, and two men stepped into the alley. Their eyes swept up and down the dimly lit corridor.
“They’re not out here. Check the restroom, search the place!” one ordered.
A second voice murmured, “They may have jumped.”
The man in the gray suit slipped back inside, but the one in black remained, his gaze fixed on the shadows.
Kayla and Adrienne were on high alert. He was one of them. Without hesitation, they shifted between dimensions, peering at him through the haze of the veil.
“I saw our waiter speaking to the man in gray,” Kayla whispered. “They were watching us. I knew something was off.”
Adrienne frowned. “How did the waiter know who we were?”
“He’s human, so I’m not sure. But if the reptiles in this timeline have started mixing their DNA with humans, it’s possible he was controlled—maybe even able to sense us. If that’s the case, we didn’t detect him at all. That’s what worries me.”
The man in the black suit prowled the alley, nostrils flaring.
Then, in a deep, guttural voice thick with mucus, he snarled, “I smell you. You are here.”
In a blink, his form twisted, shifting into something monstrous. Scales rippled across his skin, his mouth stretching wide to reveal rows of jagged teeth dripping with spittle. A primal scream erupted from his throat, reverberating through the alley. He slashed the air with his talons ripping long claw marks in the steel dumpster.
Adrienne stiffened in horror. Even with the dimensional barrier protecting them, he felt terrifyingly close. She fought to suppress her own scream.
Kayla had seen this transformation before. She knew the effect it would have on Adrienne and instinctively wrapped her arm around her.
Then, as suddenly as he had changed, the reptile snapped back to his human disguise and vanished inside.

About a year ago (14 months to be precise) I decided to take a break from photography. I hadn't really planned on not picking up the gear for that long but I hadn't been really motivated and a break seemed like a good idea. This was the first shot, hopefully there will be a few more.

Today was one of those lazy days when it comes to photography, I kept putting off picking up the camera and finally as the light was starting to sink I figured I'd better get moving.
What better for a day of procrastinating than a photo of a motivator... that and I was a little stumped on inspiration and coffee is always a good model!
Anyway hope everyone has had a good day, and a Happy Independence Day to all my American friends!

The BNSF Forsyth Sub east of Billings has to be one of the most boring, mundane pieces of railroad around. Miles and miles of tangent track, modern boring signals, brown grain fields and orange diesels, it's not really something that motivates one to document it. However, about 30 miles east of Billings the railroad takes a sharp turn and starts to follow the Yellowstone River more directly, leading to more interesting shots. I had this one on my list for a few years now, but with a narrow season for good light and a decent drive just to shoot Gevos, I had never gotten around to it. Splitting the Yellowstone River in the background and the Rough Coulee in the foreground, even generic orange looks pretty good here.

Musings from my diary.
For some reason, I watched the Polish singers Tulia sing Metallica’s nothing else matters on YouTube. It just popped up on my YouTube feed one day. www.youtube.com/watch?v=09NqLjHJtGQ
It didn’t turn out to be folk music, like l thought, but it was very good. But be warned that my YouTube music feed changed, and so did my You Tube news feed after watching it. I am still doing statistical analysis on the You Tube algorithm or feed l now get. And my assessment of You Tube is not that flattering.
I am debating with myself if it is a political song, as they sung it. It didn’t seem to be a political song at first, and the possibility that it is political isn’t why l liked it. It just seemed to be a unique cover, of a song l like. But on reflection it could have been sung for political reasons.
I considered that the four young ladies were doing a stone wall. A very polite, f@$k you, to everyone who had criticised Poland, recently.
Days later l am still considering what l saw, and l do it with ignorance from half a world away.
Today it seemed significant that the young polish ladies wore traditional head scarfs with flowers when they were dressed to impress their native Poles. Was it ironic that Poles were being criticised for it and yet other nations are lorded for their tribal displays? So, l wrote, and thus, I considered what l had been seeing.
It appeared to me that the way they had sung it, that it was possibly a song of rebellion, with the connotation of the flowers being vivid Polish sociological mathematics…
It looked to be in contrasted with the west. In the west they had sent their men to war in Afghanistan, for a war on terror that morphed into a war for woman’s and homosexual rights. No one had been sent to war by Poland recently, yet they were the ones being accused of idealistic nationalism.
Unlike the Polish ladies, westerner’s male and female didn’t offer a flower in the hair, but they expected religious like unquestioning self-sacrifice. They didn’t offer a Polish Catholic young lady’s flower. One that involved marriage and children, they didn’t even offer the childless sixties western variant, they offered nothing. Some expected their men to die, if need be, for a cause that they had not initially been sent to war for.
The song raised a lot of considerations for me, especially with the current populist narrative being propagated in the media about Poland. One reporter even going as far as to extrapolate that Poland was on a new religious crusade… Ironically it seemed to me that the atheist left was expecting Christians to follow the example of Christ and martyr themselves for their causes, but the Christians could not defend their own. It appeared to me, that some young Polish ladies might know how to tribally motivate their men and woman better than some of their western counterparts, who were offering nothing for some who would give the ultimate sacrifice for their efforts. Some in the west seemed to be treating their citizens of democratic nations like expendable mercenaries, slaves, or as those that should suffer intellectual sub servitude. Was it like ancient Rome? Were the polyamorists and atheists watching the metaphoric lions eat defenceless Christians, who were being deprived of any defence? Were those calling for an end to Polish democracy sitting outside the arena with no skin in the game? l considered that they were purveying an event, as if it was being called like a sporting match fit for a Roman arena, with thumbs up and thumbs down, and it seemed inhumane.
Four young Polish ladies had produced a lot of thought for a cover of a western Heavy Metal tune. The only conclusion l could come to, was it was a good cover, and unlike Metallica, Tulia couldn’t be accused of selling out.

Germany, Hamburg, …no, …it’s not Venice, it is a homage to the “Venetian Carnival” in Hamburg, the “Maskenzauber”, magic masques.
Charming masks, impressive costumes & the flair of the Hanseatic city between Alster-Arcades & Colonnades.
When masked ladies & cavaliers stroll through the streets in Hamburg, then the annual Maskenzauber on the Alster takes place.
Mask magic became a solid & unique event over the years developed in the Hamburg’s street culture life.
Spectators can admire imaginative costumes, dances & in the evening fire dance at this elegant Venetian style street carnival on the carnival weekend.
Unfortunately, the weather this year, 2018, was chilly, humid & unpleasant,
…however, it could not spoil the festive spirit of the performers & audiences.

This is one of the (evil) thoughts that has been running through my mind lately as the end of my 365 approaches. After my project I am afraid that I will be floating directionless in an abyss of procrastination (sounds bleak, I know). I actually shot this before my trip to Iceland when I was feeling exactly like this; I was depressed but hopeful that something about Iceland would pull me out of this funk. This is a funk that I think will always be with me in some way or another and I can either lie down and let it take over or let it motivate me to keep creating.
Austria, Burgenland, Reiter's Stud-Farm, Lipizzan or Lipizzaner.
When you think of a Lipizzaner, the image of a white horse automatically appears. This is because Lipizzaner have a snow-white to silver coat colour, which they do not have from birth; about 91% of horses do not get the white colour until they are seven to ten years old.
Like all grey horses, Lipizzaner are born black & more rarely brown or mouse grey. In most foals, only white burin hair proves within the first few weeks that they will one day become white. This phenomenon is caused by a gene mutation that is thousands of years old, the so-called grey gene. One of a hundred Lipizzaner foals born in "Piber" still remains dark or even black.
The name Lipizzaner appeared for the first time in 1786, the "Karster", as it used to be called, takes its name from the "Lipica Stud", the original breeding facility in the former Habsburg monarchy.
The Lipizzaner horses have been one of the most famous horse breeds since the 16th century & they are also sensitive, spirited, courageous, intelligent, loyal & prefer to have just one person around taking care them.
The warm-blooded animals originally come from the Slovenian "Lipica" as robust karst horses. Here & above all in the "West Styrian-Austrian Federal Stud Piber", they are still bred to become first-class riding & competition horses. However, only a few stallions make it to the "Spanische Hofreitschule", the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, exclusively from the West Styrian-Austrian Federal Stud Piber.
Karl Reiter, owner of "Reiter's stud Farm" has within 35 years built up Europe’s largest & leading private Lipizzaner stud farm, he received numerous international & national awards for his successful breed.
The sales price for foals starts from 4.000 € & breeding horse with basic training from 15.000 Euro up in 2016.

…a herd of red deer, ...well, ...the grass looks always greener on the other side.

The red deer is the fourth largest type in their species. Only the stags have antlers, which start growing in the spring & are shed each year, usually at the end of winter. The soft covering known as velvet helps to protect newly forming antlers in the spring. The antler shedding is done the sooner, the older the deer is so sooner he throws of his antler. Deer with large antlers form within this less than four months time, a bone growth of four to five kilograms.

This is the opposite view of a shot that I had done earlier, somehow it got lost in my library and never got posted. I spent most of today at the computer processing plenty of pictures for the upcoming week! Now I'm really motivated to get out and do some new shooting!!
As for the shot, this is a 3 shot HDR, processed with Camera Raw, CS5, and some Nik software.

Italy, Venice, …the "big" boss of the "Trattoria-Pizzeria Conca d'Oro".
It is said that here, near the San Marcos square, Venice's first pizza was baked in a charcoal oven in 1947. The Trattoria-Pizzeria was founded by the Sicilian brothers Giuseppe & Giovanni Costa, a story that is still ongoing today.
The lagoon city hides many picturesque places offside the tourist roads. If the buildings would be straight, painted & well maintained, I think Venice without this patina, the gondolas & gondolieri, channels, little bridges & the at all-time busy Canal Grande; all these main ingredients altogether express the romantic charm of Venice.
