The Indian Peafowl occurs from eastern Pakistan through India, south from the Himalayas to Sri Lanka. Though once common in Bangladesh, it may now be extinct in that country. Its highly ornamental appearance motivated early seafarers to transplant the peafowl to their homelands in other parts of the western world. Phoenician traders in the time of King Solomon (1000 B.C.) introduced the birds to present-day Syria and the Egyptian Pharaohs. Alexander the Great imported more of the birds into his Mediterranean domains and severely penalized anyone caught harming them. Domesticated peafowl remained a popular status symbol through Roman times and the Middle Ages, ensuring their establishment and survival throughout Europe.

In its native India, the peafowl is a creature of the open forests and riparian undergrowth. In southern India, it also prefers stream-side forests but may also be found in orchards and other cultivated areas.

Dazed but uninjured, Sireth ended his transmission with Zorn aboard the Orryxala. He brushed dust from his uniform, eyes narrowing as he surveyed the wreckage. Then he turned his glare on Voltar.

“You are a curse,” he growled. “Since the moment you arrived, we have had nothing but disaster.”

Voltar didn’t flinch. “I am not the one responsible for your carelessness. You command this operation.” He flicked debris from a smoldering hole burned through his uniform.

Sireth pivoted to Kaszon. “Get your men. Remove the Mudag from the forward bay.”

“We must get the fire under control,” Kaszon countered.

“There is no time,” Sireth snapped. “The transport is finished. Salvage what we can. I have already informed Zorn—he is dispatching another transport with reinforcements.”

Kaszon leaned in, voice low and venomous. “Let us kill Voltar now. I know the secrets he hides are the root of our problems. Just give a nod.”

“Soon,” Sireth growled. “Get the Mudag.”

Voltar stepped closer, voice smooth but edged. “This situation is most unfortunate, Sireth. These… missteps are causing unacceptable delays.”

Sireth’s jaw tightened. “I wasn’t aware of a schedule.” He gestured toward the field of dead Horocyclians sprawled across the ground. “As you can see, all resistance has been eliminated. We will reach the Core in due time.”

Ahead of them, the crew struggled to manually crank open the forward ramp of the burning transport. Flames roared inside, punctuated by violent bursts of secondary explosions.

At last, the Mudag emerged—its armored hull untouched by the inferno. The tank-like assault vehicle rumbled to a halt before Sireth and Voltar as crewmen hauled out every piece of equipment they could carry. Moments later, one of the landing legs buckled, and the transport collapsed onto its side with a metallic scream.

Everything salvageable was loaded into the Mudag.

Sireth swung open the rear hatch. “Get in.”

Voltar ducked through the opening, and the Mudag heaved forward—its treads grinding over the time worn stones as it rumbled down the ancient street toward the distant, flickering glow.

Corogin soldiers paced beside it, weapons angled outward, eyes sweeping the shadows.

Kayla slipped after them, a silent echo in their wake.

It's really hard for me to try to explain how hard it is to motivate myself to do any photography these days whilst I continue to recover from my knee injury. Recovery has been seriously interrupted by lockdowns and closures of gyms...indeed, I've not even been able to see a physio for over 6 months. With all of that my fitness has suffered considerably and so even short excursions can sometimes feel like I'm hitting the wall at mile 22 of a marathon. Therefore, the thought of making the effort to climb a hill for photography when the conditions are less than ideal...well, it doesn't appeal.

When on the hill, a different fear now presents itself. Fear of another injury. I used to head out without a care in the world really. Sure, I might slip and fall, but I always felt that I was the master of my own destiny, even in those circumstances...but now it is different. My body just failed when I injured my knee, with very little in the way of warning, just a little knee pain like I've had for years anyway. The actual step I took when my tendon snapped was so incredibly innocuous, it's the type of step I've taken thousands, if not millions, of times before...it was just like going down the stairs at home...but in that moment, my tendon chose when I was alone, on a hill, in inclement weather and without a mobile signal, to snap...not at home, going down the stairs. And now, although the injured knee presents no pain, my other one does, so the fear is that that will someday go too, as so often seems to happen with people who rupture one tendon, eventually the other one ruptures too. Add to that a lack of strength in the injured knee, some balancing issues and a tendency to give way without warning...that all adds up to a heck of a lot of nervousness when going off the beaten track.

The day I took this photo was no different in many ways. I was solo. The weather was inclement. There was no-one really around. I did have some extra protection in the form of a satellite transceiver that enables me to send an SOS and I did tell my wife where I was this time. But with boggy conditions underfoot, it still meant my mind wasn't wholly invested in photography until I'd set up my tripod and decided to wait, in the cloud and drizzle, for things to happen. And so I waited...and waited...and waited. About 2 hours later I felt the subtle change in temperature on my neck as the sun tried to break through the misty conditions. Poised with my finger on the shutter just hoping for the mistiness to clear a little to reveal the landscape, the conditions brightened to the left of the scene you see here until not only were the two tress visible, but also the landscape beyond...and low and behold, a rainbow. What resulted was a stitch pano consisting of 7 vertical frames and 160 megapixels of Lake District loveliness. This scene lasted for all of 30 seconds...and then it was gone.

I don't tend to big-up my photography, especially these days. I tend to work behind the scenes, especially for anything from Snowdonia, where I spend most of my time, refining my project and building, what I hope will be, a quality book. However, when I go elsewhere, it is sometimes nice to share what I captured, and I think even I like this one enough to shout about it.

Today was one of those lazy days when it comes to photography, I kept putting off picking up the camera and finally as the light was starting to sink I figured I'd better get moving.

What better for a day of procrastinating than a photo of a motivator... that and I was a little stumped on inspiration and coffee is always a good model!

Anyway hope everyone has had a good day, and a Happy Independence Day to all my American friends!

The need for an image to post weekly on the blog motivates me to pick up the camera even when life seems busy and full with other things as it is now. With bright sun and wind on Hay Bay, I tried some in-camera double exposure ICM images using the darks blend mode.

I've been wanting to start this 100 Bicycles project for some time, but I wanted to finish my 365 project first. This will hopefully keep me motivated to go out and explore with the camera again. Starting off with one from the archives that I shot with this project in mind.

The 100 Bicycles project: 100 different bicycles photographed in detail. This is bicycle number 1.

Germany, Düsseldorf, Schauspielhaus, the city’s playhouse / theatre building & company immersed in soft “lollipop” colours in the late evening hours.

The building with two major auditoria was designed by the architect Bernhard Pfau, built between 1965 &1969, it opened in January 1970 & was celebrated 50 years ago as “the” futuristic architectonical highlight, actually closed for mayor renovations.

The cultural complex on Gustaf-Gründgens-Square, named after a very famous German actor from the early till mid-twenties century & neighbouring the Thyssen Dreischeibenhaus, the "Three Plates Building", headquarters of the Thyssen & ThyssenKrupp groups.

China, Harbin, "Ice & Snow Festival" on Sun Island.

This over 120 mtr long & approx. 40 mtr high snow sculpture still in the finalizing carving process is the master piece & the main sculpture of the around 500 small size to larger sizes snow show pieces. The snow sculpture park is located next to the gigantic ice festival area

Sun island scenic area, covering about 3,800 hectares, approx. 35,25 square km, is the second biggest venue of the annual Harbin Ice & Snow Sculpture Festival & has become Harbin's main parkland & recreation area, used all year long.

The impressive "Ice & Snow Festival" is the greatest & unusual one in the world, therefore Harbin is also called the "Ice City".

The city centre Zhaolin Park futures the “Disney Ice Festival” as part of the Harbin "Ice & Snow Festival" / "Ice Lantern Festival". Besides the for floors ice castle with electric elevators there are more than hundred sculptures of different sizes & motives in the Zhaolin Park organized by Disney, at night all sculptures are colourful lighted with LED.

For the "Ice Festival" over a 100.000 Tons of Ice Blocks, cut from the around 1 mtr thick ice sheet covering the Song Hua River, are used for the festival sculptures & carvings from January till March. It is one of the largest of its kind & most interesting one in the World.

The carved fishermen Ice-lanterns can date back to ancient times. It was said that some fishermen made rough & simple ice-lanterns just for lighting. With the time passed, ice-lanterns embodied their cultural features & gradually the artistic fascination of making of ice-lanterns, ice sculptures started in the 1960th, leading to today's impressive Ice & Snow Festival.

Also in the city you will see everywhere ice carvings of all sizes, besides there are several expositions in different Park. The three major Parks are the Ice World, & the Snow Sculptures parks on Sun Island, they are more artistic, the Ice Carvings at the Zhao Lin Park by Disney in the centre of the City. Harbin Ice & Snow World are gigantic & LED illuminated at Night.

Harbin with population of almost 4.5 million, is heralded as the Ice City for its well-known unbelievably impressive ice & snow recreations during the yearly international “Ice & Snow Festival” from the end of December until beginning of March. Harbin is also well known besides his important historic & economic past & present for China, for its historical Russian heritage, this cultural influence is still notable till today.

Due to the Siberian high & Harbin in the Heilongjiang Province location above 45 degrees north latitude, the city is known for having the most bitterly cold winters among major Chinese cities. Winter Temperatures can drop to below -35° C., when I visited Harbin beginning of January the Temperature varied between -20°C & -26°C below, but with dry air.

As well the large Siberian Tiger & white tigers research centre, with about 500 tigers & a few other species, does an important work to prevent this species from extinction. The Research centre can be visited, tours in small a bus are available, passing through wide natural, separated, sections, however the focus point is to save the tigers.

Macro Monday Theme: Mesh

Window screen in my shop is in need of repair. This week's theme motivated me to remove the screen and replace it. Background is bright colored fabric, flash was set up behind sreen to illuminate only the background.

Intérieur - extérieur (île de la cité, Paris, décembre 2024)

Multiple frames in the frame and a partial covering of the face, this is the intention that motivated this shot. The man whose face appears is sitting in a café, behind the glass of the latter. The street is reflected on the left part of the image while the interior of the café appears on the central part. It is already the middle of the afternoon, that is to say a moment when the natural light begins to decline, while the artificial lighting begins to be more visible (upper part of the image).

C'est un oiseau fascinant car il est très fûté et le prendre dans une bonne position est tout un défi et ce petit jeu de cache cache entre l'oiseau et moi est motivant !

It is a fascinating bird because it is very smart and take in a good position is challenging and this little game of hide and seek between the bird and is motivating me!

this has been my last full day at the beach, and even though it's been fun for the most part, i'm really tired and i'm pretty excited to be able to sleep in my own bed tomorrow night. also i've been taking little video clips of the whole trip, which i'm planning on putting together to make a little video montage! for tomorrow's picture, i'm going to get up before sunrise again to get day 64 so pray that i'll be motivated and that i won't turn off my alarm in my sleep (which i do more often than not haha)

My original idea for this shot was to make a robot gang called "The Bad Motivators" but it somehow morphed into a pissed off and armed GNK droid.

I'm on a quest to pick up all the LEGO variatons of Gonk, and the one pictured here was my first grab.

Forget the Han Solo story, lets get a movie all about these silent (but deadly) power droids.

The model here is related to General von Steuben, who helped George Washington train and motivate his troops at Valley Forge, PA. Von Steuben's work is credited with helping turn around the war effort, which was not doing well at the time.
