The fourth shot from my Ria Formosa series. It was the last day of summer and the light was so inviting that I couldn't resist to shoot at everything, even cans and sand trails...

World Heritage Listed - Lord Howe Island

LORD HOWE ISLAND GALLERIES

AUSTRALIA

Lord Howe Island is known as "The Last Paradise" and not without some considerable justification.

The coral surrounding the island and in the lagoon is the furthest southern coral in the world apart from some coral around Balls Pyramid 20km South East of Lord Howe.

With global warming seriously threatening the very existence of Australia's Great Barrier Reef it looks as if Lord Howe will be a last refuge for coral reefs as we know them today.

There are legally limited numbers of cars residents and visitors to World Heritage listed Lord Howe and the only way to get around is on foot or by bicycle or boat.

Accommodation is limited so costs are comparatively high.Nevertheless the natural beauty of this magnificent paradise make every dollar spent well worthwhile.

At least 10 days is needed to actively explore the island and you will need every bit of that time as every day starts early and ends late, and you will be a whole lot fitter by the time you jump reluctantly back on the plane home.

Neds Beach is a beautiful white sandy beach with a Northerly orientation being protected by the dense Kentia and Banyan Fig forest behind the beach when southerlies are blowing. It is only a short walk or ride across the island from the lagoon and the CBD.

Great views of Malabar Hill, out to the Admiralty Islands ,daily fish feeding, nesting seabirds, and excellent snorkeling scuba and beachcombing opportunities attract visitors with the snorkeling gear available on a voluntary fee for use honour system.Use the gear, return it and drop your money in the tin.

It is however the snorkeling on the coral and rock platforms that leaves one with lasting memories as well as the myriad of fish and other marine life so readily seen.

Last weekend was all about photography..... when you get the clouds in Southern California- you have to take full advantage. I had planned to meet up with Stephanie Sawyer and Dara Lork in Corona Del Mar but when I tried to get there, Pacific Coast Highway was shut down due to a serious traffic accident so I had to reroute and go back to the old faithful!... Victoria is my favorite beach but only at low tide... the waves coming up over those rocks can be treacherous trying to visit past that turret...our very own local Rapunzels tower ;-)

With a lot of editing, I got this shot to look okay, I was sad I'd shot all of them a bit dark....the Joy's of self taught photographers ;-)

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend! GO BRONCO's!!!! :D

Thanks for all your support!! xoxoxo

There were times in which the photography was uninteresting for the children. But the old film cameras are almost gone, and now even cell phones have a fantastic resolution ... and they are always with us, ready for that moment...

Seixal - Madeira Island (Portugal)

Seixal is a northern town of the north coast of Madeira. This small twon is characterised by its spectacular, verdant landscapes overlooking the deep blue sea. The beaches of this coast are usually composed by basalt pebbles smoothed by the sea. The sound generated by these pebbles, rolling by the action of the waves is quite impressive. We can also find dark sand beaches, artificial beaches and natural bathing pools.

Blueys Beach, at Pacific Palms about 3 hours north of Sydney, is one of a select number of beaches in NSW where private properties extend to the immediate back of the dunes permitting direct access to the beach from the backyard.

As a result these properties are highly sought after and consequently very expensive, running into millions of dollars for prestige properties.

Celito Point is in the immediate foreground with the iconic Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse (Seal Rocks) in the distance.

Black Head Beach, NSW Mid North Coast, Australia

More Black Head Beach, Hallidays Point Images HERE

HALLIDAYS POINT

This idyllic beach is given a wonderful ambience by the entry through forest to the village. Norfolk Island Pines along the back of the beach also add significantly to the charm of this safe, patrolled beach located just 3 hours north of Sydney on the NSW Mid North Coast.

Black Head Beach has won the "NSW Tidiest Beach Award" on several occasions in recent years.

With littoral rainforest on both the Redhead end ,the middle of the beach and also the Black Head end there is always a quiet walk in the rainforest to cool off on the hot days in summer. The small island off the point is known as 'Razorback'.

Black Head Beach is located 25 minutes north of the twin towns of Forster-Tuncurry.

The name Black Head doesn't refer to the colour of the rock on this prominent and scenic rocky headland here on the NSW Mid North Coast.

Rather it refers to Black Head, Antrim, just north of Carrickfergus, the Irish birthplace of the first white settler William Hoy who moved to Black Head NSW around 1881.

As far as I know its not known what the aboriginal name for the headland was however it almost certainly had a name which would probably date back tens of thousands of years.

Interestingly the Irish 'Blackhead' has the words black and head joined as was the case here on the NSW Mid North Coast until some years ago when someone, presumably at local government level, took a decision to separate the two words on signage and maps now published of the area.

I'm now not convinced this was a correct decision and believe the correct way of expressing the area's name should be Blackhead, with both words joined.
