One of the most impressive medieval churches in southern France, the church of the Jacobins was built in the 13th century and served as the great church of the Domincan convent. It is of a highly unusual design, built largely of brick with main vessel and apse divided into two seperate naves by a central row of tapering columns.

The church suffered during the Revolution when the Dominicans were forced to abandon it, the state abusing it for mixed use as barracks and stables. However it was restored to use as a place of worship in the late 19th century. The cavernous interior is largely empty, though is enlivened by richly coloured patterened glass by Max Ingrand (1950s/60s).

The church is also notable as the burial place of St Thomas Aquinas, to whom it was once dedicated (his shrine was destroyed during the French Revolution).

There are monastic buildings situated to the north of the church around a cloister with several other medieval roomss (including one with a fine sequence of original frescoes, though it was closed when I called), The cloister is also the best place to appreciate the church's slender octagonal tower, of a design peculiar to Toulouse.

County seat, Eastland County. Named for William M. Eastland--Texas War for Independence hero who was in Mier Expedition against Mexico, and was executed in "Black Bean" lottery at Rancho Salado in 1842. Most noted early local people were Comanches, who resisted occupation of area by white settlers. The last recorded Indian raid in county was in 1874. Eastland was named county seat in an election on Aug. 2, 1875. With 250 people it was incorporated on June 6, 1891, and W.Q. Connellee was elected as mayor. After a discovery in 1917, one of the fabled oil booms of Texas occurred nearby, with Eastland center for legal matters. With oil priced $2.60 a barrel, many wells flowed at 10,000 barrels a day. The city quickly grew to 25,000 people; 5 banks prospered. Coming here to seek "black gold" were celebrities, including evangelist Billy Sunday, circus owner John Ringling, sports figures Jess Willard, Tex Rickard. An international wonder-story happened here: the old courthouse cornerstone was opened (on this site) in 1928 to reveal survival of "Old Rip", a horned toad placed there with other mementoes on July 19, 1897. Continuing oil production, agricultural processing and clay products bolster the present economy. (1968)

The Festetics Family is one of the most significant ducal families in Hungary. The family, who was of Croatian origin, moved to Hungary in the 17th century. In 1739 ChristopherFestetics (1696-1768) bought the Keszthely estate and its appurtenances, and chose it to be the centre of his estates. He had the palace built, broughta surgeon and craftsmen to the town, and set up a pharmacy and a hospital.

Christopher’s son, Paul Festetics III (1722-1782) was Queen Maria Theresa’s Counsellor to the Court, later Counsellor to the Chancellery. After that, he was elected to the Court Chancellery. The Queen charged him with the drawing up of the decree called Urbarium, and conferred the title of Count on him in 1772. He also became the Queen’s Confidential Advisor and the Vice-President of the Hungarian Chamber. Apart from his political activities, Paul alsofounded the first primary and secondary schools in Keszthely.

George I (1755-1819), Paul’s son, was the most significant member of the family. In 1797 he founded Georgikon, the first agricultural college in Europe. He commissioned the building of the first large sailing vessel on Lake Balaton, the Phoenix Galley. He was a generous patron of culture. He added the library wing to the palace and collected newly published books. He organized the first Helikon Festivities in 1817 with the participation of the greatest poets and writers of his age. He also established a grammar school in Csurgó.

The highest ranking member of the family was Tassilo II (1850-1933), George’s great-grandson. He was considered ’the greatest Hungarian aristocrat’. He was Royal Court Chamberlain, Privy Councilor and Lord Steward. By marrying the English Princess Mary Hamilton, he got in connection with Western European royal families. In 1911 the title of Prince was conferred to Tassilo by the Emperor Franz Joseph.

The last family members to reside in the Festetics Palace were Tassilo II’s son, George III (1882-1941) and his family. His wife, the Polish Countess Maria Haugwitz and their son, George IV (1940- ) left the palace in 1944.

Leleh Zar Street (خیابان لاله زار) was considered Tehran's most luxurious street in the years leading to the World War II with so many upscale restaurants, bars, cinemas and businesses but as the uptown in Tehran moved northbound, it fell into the Grand Bazaar's sphere of influence and lost it's status as upscale neighborhoods. Laleh Zar street was mostly colonized by lighting fixture wholesalers

Iranian cities used to be centered around Grand Bazaars. Grand Bazzar is essentially a neighborhood in the city with maze of alleys full of shops. The alleys in Grand Bazaars are often covered with some sort of roofing to protect the merchandise parked on the alley and also to ease up life for merchants and shoppers by regulating the temperature, reduce heat in summers and prevent extreme cold in winters. After the World War II, Tehran's Grand Bazaar metastasized to other neighborhoods, Once high end neighborhoods in the sphere of influence of Grand Bazaar were flooded with new Bazaar Style shops which swiftly robbed them off their status. As such neighborhoods became the extension of Grand Bazzar, merchants wished to give their new territory a more Bazzarish feel and also protect their parked merchandise and as a result, little alleys like the one in photo were covered with some sort of roofing. Some with traditional brick arches and some with more modern styles like the one in photo. A dead end covered alley in Persian is called "Bazaar-Che" which translates to English as "Little Bazzar". "Bazaar-Che" was the word proposed by the "Persian Academy of Literature" which is in charge of finding or creating Persian name for new things. "Bazaar-Che" word was officially adopted to call such alleys however the commoners prefer the English word "Passage" which they pronounce it in French accent.

Most Nights Summer Tour | July 20th, 2013 | Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, MD

Although I spent most of my time at Point Pelee photographing migrating birds, there were a few other inhabitants of the parl as wel. This mink lives near the end of the point and I saw him several mornings hunting amongst the rocks on the west side of the point. He did not seem at al bothered by al the people.

On one particular morning I only had my Canon 7D + 500mm F4 + 1.4 teleconverter combo, mounted on my tripod, with me when I saw him. He was at the end of the point and was heading north moving in and out of the rocks. I tried to get ahead of him to take his photo but I couldn't always predict where he would appear.

Finally I decided to run about 30 metres (100 feet) farther up the path and then I scrambled down the rocks as fast as I could (perhaps not the smartest thing to do) and set myself up focussing on a large opening between several boulders.

Fortunately he appeared exactly where I hoped he would and paused for a couple of seconds and I managed this full frame shot. Well worth the effort I think! LOL

Westminster Abbey is perhaps the most significant church in English History, site of the coronation of monarchs since it was founded by Edward the Confessor, and burial place of the majority of them, along with many other historical figures of note. It is first and foremost a superlative work of medieval architecture, from its soaring 13th-14th century nave, transepts and choir (all in a curiously French inspired version of Decorated Gothic) to the masterpiece of English Perpendicular, the incredibly lacy fan-vaulted Henry VII's chapel at the east end.

The Abbey is also a treasure house of ecclesiastical art, most of it monumental sculpture on the numerous tombs and effigies of almost every date ranging from the entire medieval period through to the 20th century; a somewhat cluttered interior, crammed full of interest, there is simply nothing else quite like it, no other church contains so many monuments.

The Abbey's monastic ranges partially survive, most notably the cloisters and superb chapter house; a short summary of the Abbey's riches is simply impossible. The monastery itself was shut down during the Dissolution, after which the Abbey briefly became a cathedral until its diocesan rank was revoked merely a decade later. Today it is designated a 'Royal Peculiar' owing to its unique status.

The Abbey is a textbook in stone of British history, and thus a hugely popular tourist attraction. It currently has more limited opening hours in the post-Covid recovery period and entry is not cheap, but happily after decades of a strict prohibition against photographers the rules have now been relaxed at last and visitors are now welcome to fully enjoy this marvellous building with their cameras!

Most SNP (od roku 1993 do 28. 8. 2012[1] Nový Most) je jednopylónový, oceľový, cestný, zavesený most vejárového dizajnu cez Dunaj v Bratislave. Most patrí do asociácie World Federation of Great Towers, pričom je to 28. a najnižšia stavba tejto asociácie a súčasne jediná stavba tejto asociácie, ktorá slúži ako pylón mosta.

Most Slovenského národného povstania (English: Bridge of the Slovak National Uprising; between the years 1993-2012 named Nový most - New Bridge). Bridge of the Slovak National Uprising is a road bridge over the Danube in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It is the 32nd-tallest, and thus shortest, member of the World Federation of Great Towers, and is the only bridge to be a member. It is the world's longest cable-stayed bridge to have one pylon and one cable-stayed plane.

It is an asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge with a main span length of 303 metres. Its steel construction is suspended from steel cables, connected on the Petržalka side to two pillars. The total length of the bridge is 430.8 metres, its width 21 metres, and it weighs 7537 tonnes.

A special attraction is its flying saucer-shaped structure housing a restaurant, called "UFO" (since 2005; previously called Bystrica), on the bridge's 84.6 metre pylon. The restaurant is reached using an elevator situated in the left pillar, and offers a good view over Bratislava. In the right pillar there is an emergency staircase with 430 stairs. Nový Most has 4 upper lanes for cars, and lanes for bicycles and pedestrians beneath the roadway on both sides.
