Most Japanese weddings take place at Shinto Shrines. One the wedding day the bride is painted from head to toe in white as a statement of her maidenhood. The bride wears a white kimono and elaborate headpiece to hide her "horns of jealousy:" from the groom’s mother, who becomes the head of her family. A Japanese groom dresses in a black kimono. While the bride and groom exchange vows the two families face each other and not the bride and groom. One of the central moment of the Japanese wedding ceremony is when the bride and groom drink nine cups of sake, after which they are officially declared man and wife. The families also drink sake to symbolize the joining of the two families. At the end of the ceremony the father of the groom and the bride introduce their family members.
At the wedding reception the bride changes into a red kimono, and at some wedding a Western style white wedding dress. The wedding guest play games, skits, and sometimes karaoke at the wedding reception. Guest are expected to offer the couple "goshugi"(money). Most Japanese weddings take place in the Spring or Fall, because of the good weather. Some days are consider luckier to get married on than other. FLAMBOROUGH HEAD IS THE MOST NORTHERLY LOCATION AT WHICH YOU CAN FIND COASTAL CHALK CLIFFS IN THE UK. THE FEROCIOUS NORTH SEA HAS RELENTLESSLY ERODED THE SOFT CHALK CLIFFS LEAVING PARTS OF THE CLIFFS WITH NUMEROUS SEA STACKS, CAVES AND ARCHES ALONG THIS PART OF THE COAST. FLAMBOROUGH HEAD LIGHTHOUSE CAN BE SEEN FROM THE BEACH.
FLAMBOROUGH CLIFFS NATURE RESERVE, AS PART OF FLAMBOROUGH HEAD, IS DESIGNATED AS A SITE OF SPECIAL SCIENTIFIC INTEREST (SSSI), A SPECIAL AREA OF CONSERVATION (SAC) AND A SPECIAL PROTECTION AREA (SPA), AND IS ALSO A PART OF THE FLAMBOROUGH HEAD HERITAGE COAST. ALGAL AND LICHEN COMMUNITIES FOUND WITHIN THE SEA CAVES IN THE CLIFFS ARE ONE OF THE LESS KNOWN REASONS FOR THE SITES INTERNATIONAL IMPORTANCE.
The light of Earendel, our most beloved star ⭐
Discovered by Hubble, Earendel is the farthest star ever detected. It existed in the first billion years after the big bang! The James Webb Space Telescope now shows it to be a massive B-type star, more than twice as hot as our Sun and about a million times more luminous. It’s only detectable thanks to its alignment with a galaxy cluster between Earendel and us. The cluster’s gravity bends light, magnifying what is behind it — in the case of a star-sized object like Earendel, by a factor of at least 4000. Based on the colors of the light of Earendel, astronomers think it may have a cooler companion star.
Webb is also able to see other details in Earendel’s host galaxy, the Sunrise Arc — the most highly magnified galaxy yet detected in the universe’s first billion years. Those features include both young star-forming regions and older, established star clusters as small as 10 light-years across.
Because Webb is so sensitive, it has spotted other very distant stars, though not quite so distant as Earendel. Astronomers have cautious hope that the very first generation of stars in the universe may yet be detectable. Learn more: go.nasa.gov/3OtsBMz

Image description: The image is split in half vertically to create two images. In the left image, a black background is scattered with hundreds of small galaxies of different shapes, ranging in color from white to yellow to red. Some galaxies, mostly the redder galaxies, are distorted, appearing to be stretched out or mirror imaged. Just a little bit above the center, there is a bright source of light, a star, with 8 bright diffraction spikes extending out from it. Below the star are several noticeably fuzzy white galaxies that resemble cotton balls – these are part of a galaxy cluster. To the lower right of the star is a long, red, thin line stretching from one o’clock to 7 o’clock, outlined in a white inset box. This is the Sunrise Arc. The right image is a close-up of that long red line. There are several bright dots, some thicker than others, along this line, with one labeled as Earendel.
The tiny hamlet of Borley, in the northern part of Essex, not far from Sudbury, Suffolk, is said to be the most haunted place in England. Most of the inexplicable phenomena took place in the rectory, which suffered a fire in 1939 and was demolished in 1943. Since then ghostly activity, on a reduced scale, has continued in and around the church.
The church itself, notwithstanding its notoriety, is an unremarkable little building, and the most noticeable thing about it is the topiary walk leading to its 15th-century brick porch ...on the occasion of our visit picturesquely strewn with fallen conkers. No apparitions appeared during our brief stay, but it was with a slight sense of someone looking over my shoulder that I closed the gate and approached the late Perpendicular tower. Mrs B picked up a piece of broken tile and brought it home, so I am a little worried about uncanny vibes and suchlike.
THE WORLD'S MOST POWERFUL MOTOR SPORT
WHAT IS TRACTOR PULLING?
Tractor pulling competitions take place on a 100 metre track, and involve the machines pulling a weight transfer sledge. A weight transfer sledge basically gets heavier to pull as it is pulled down the track. This is achieved by increasing the weight on the pan of the sledge by moving the weight box from the rear to the front of the sledge as the sledge is pulled forward. The winner of the competition is the machine that can pull the sledge the furthest.
If more than one competitor completes the 100 metre track with the sledge (a full pull), then the sledge is made harder to pull, and the competitors who made a full pull go again until they are stopped and a winner obtained.
Tractor pulling is called “The World’s Most Powerful Motor Sport” with some machines producing in excess of 9000 horsepower. However, the sport has many varied classes ranging from the small, single engined 950kg Modifieds, through the stock machines to the multi-engined 4.5 tonne machines. Here is a brief description of the classes which are competed at events with the North West Tractor Pulling Club. The weight of each class is the weight of the machine and driver ready to compete.
Super Farm Class
The Super Farm class is based on a stock farm tractor and is limited to one turbo charger and a RPM limit of 2800. The original tractor engine must be used. This is a low cost class and a starting class for many tractor pulling competitors. The class is competed at 3.5 tonnes.
Under 401 Prostock Class
The Under 401 Prostock class is again based on a farm tractor using the original engine; it’s limited to one turbo charger and a engine size of 401 cubic inches (6.57 litres). There is no RPM limit on this class, which for many is the next step up from Super Farm in the world of tractor pulling. The Under 401 Prostock class is competed at 3.5 tonnes.
Prostock Class
The Prostock class is the next level of stock machines used in tractor pulling. This class is again limited to one turbo charger, but with a larger limit to the engine size of 510 cubic inches (8.36 litres), and again must use the original engine block and cylinder head. These machines become much more highly tuned than the previous classes and again compete at 3.5 tonnes.
Superstock Class
The Superstock class is the most highly tuned of the tractor pulling stock classes. Based on a stock tractor, the machines can use up to 3 turbo pressure stages. As long as the original engine block is used, they can be tuned to almost any level, most these days not using the tractor’s original fuel of diesel but choosing to run on methanol to achieve more power. The Superstock class again competes at 3.5 tonnes.
950kg Modified Class
The smallest of the modified classes, and formally called the Mini Modified class, this tractor pulling class is a single engine machine weighing in at just 950kg complete with driver. The engines used in the 950kg Modified class range from supercharged V8’s to turbine engines and even V12 aircraft engines.
Modified Class
This is the class where almost anything goes – in the Modified class, you’ll see any combination of engines, gearboxes and rear axles imaginable. This class is competed at 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 tonnes. ETPC limitations are set to limit which engine combinations can be used to obtain a fair horsepower limit for each weight class.
The 4.5 tonne class is the most powerful in the tractor pulling world, seeing engine combinations like 5 V8s, 3 V12 aircraft engines or 4 turbines. Horsepowers over 9000 are not uncommon. The BTPA also has a Limited Modified class, this is a 3.5 tonne class with lower horsepower limits than the normal 3.5 class so as to provide a lower cost entry class into the Modified division.
Two Wheel Drive Class
This single V8 engined tractor pulling class is basically a modified class with a dragster/funny car type body fitted. The engine size of this class is limited depending on the type of cylinder heads fitted. This provides a class where the competition is very close. The Two Wheel Drive class is competed at 2600 kg.
Trucks
This class is basically a road-going twin-axle truck with safety modifications for tractor pulling. The amount of tuning allowed has been kept low to provide an entry level class into tractor pulling. The class is competed at 8.5 tonnes.
If anyone who ever used this truck wants to borrow a screwdriver from me someone stop me from lendin' it to them. Talk about bein' hard on equipment!

The two most essential people in our lives are our parents. They are perhaps the people who play the most crucial role in our life. They remain our constant companion throughout the journey of our life, from the day we are born to the day when they take their last breath, they are always there for us and to provide us with all the love and support we need. Parents are the ones who teach us the most crucial things of life and give us the support we need to grow up to become the best version of our self.
It is true that it is impossible for the children to function without the constant support of the parents. It is also true that there is a certain age till which it becomes important for the parents to provide all kinds of support to their child. This is the reason they are also the ones who tend to take most of the decisions on behalf of their children until they are grown up and responsible for making the decisions regarding their life.

Not the most gorgeous catch of these guys, but this makes for an interesting bit of fun, at least for me. I have recently been elevating my flash with a beamer on my tripod, rather than on the hot shoe to avoid red eye, as a friend of mine told me that if you do this with a slight amount of flash, you can get some great feather detail - well as usual he was right. The most important thing we can do to develop our skills in nature photographers is to be able to watch what our friends do, and listen to their advise and quiet our own egos to take in what is around us. I was happy to shoot this weekend early in the day and enjoyed the serenity. It was peaceful.
There is a great article about flash use in this month's nature photographer about flash by Art Morris - check it out, it is very well written and helpful, and keep your eyes (or in my case - one eye) open and see what you can and learn! Thanks everyone - I've learned lots from y'all!
Canada's most impressive tribute overseas to those Canadians who fought and gave their lives in the First World War is the majestic and inspiring Canadian National Vimy Memorial which overlooks the Douai Plain from the highest point of Vimy Ridge, about ten kilometres north of Arras. The Memorial does more than mark the site of the engagement that Canadians were to remember with more pride than any other operation of the First World War. It stands as a tribute to all who served their country in battle in that four-year struggle and particularly to those who gave their lives. At the base of the Memorial, these words appear in French and in English: To the valour of their Countrymen in the Great War And in memory of their sixty Thousand dead this monument Is raised by the people of Canada. Carved on the walls of the monument are the names of 11,285 Canadian soldiers who were killed in France and whose final resting place was then unknown. Standing on the monument’s wide stone terrace overlooking the broad fields and rolling hills of Northern France, one can see other places where Canadians fought and died. More than 7,000 are buried in 30 war cemeteries within a 20-kilometre radius of the Vimy Memorial. Altogether, more than 66,000 Canadian service personnel died in the First World War.Designed by Canadian sculptor and architect Walter Seymour Allward, the monument took eleven years to build. It rests on a bed of 11,000 tonnes of concrete, reinforced with hundreds of tonnes of steel. The towering pylons and sculptured figures contain almost 6,000 tonnes of limestone brought to the site from an abandoned Roman quarry on the Adriatic Sea (in present day Croatia). The figures were carved where they now stand from huge blocks of this stone. A cloaked figure stands at the front, or east side, of the monument overlooking the Douai Plain. It was carved from a single, 30-tonne block and is the largest piece in the monument. This sorrowing fi gure of a woman represents Canada—a young nation mourning her dead. Below is a tomb, draped in laurel branches and bearing a helmet and sword..

went to a trendy, yet slummy, section of the city...its where most demostrations are held....schanzenviertel or schanze for short...its where outsiders come in to protest or tag the walls of the neighborhood...mainly the people who live there are very anti_establishment people and who really do not mind the edgy neighborhood ...the buildings were from the late 1880s, but a tad run down...and the tons of garbage graffitti tags didnt help the look of the place. granted, there was some awesome graffiti and beautiful arty posters plastered all over the place too...dumb, useless tags are truely a blight
there was a little streat performance going on between a pair of young lovers...they looked really cool and mimed a couple's meet up in a movie to a relationship...it was kind of cool...though, the usa is sort of over mimes, at least there was no white makeúp...
there are many little boutiques and many little eateries on the first floor of the 4 to 6 story apartment buildings. there are scattering of cafes which probally sell more beer than cafe...there was one grocery store selling COLD BEER, but using the phrase ASS COLD which is a slang for 'extremely cold' in German, BIER ARSCHKANT 1 EURO...ASS COLD BEER 1 EURO..lol
there was some awesome graffiti and paste_up posters which were impossible to take down...you so know i would of done that...i didnt have my roll of clear packing tape, which is my secret for taking down a glued on poster. tape over the poster and gently pull off the wall.
someone did 3-D sculptures out of thick poster board...they were incredible...chamaleons, strange monsters, and assorted creatures...so, there was some very creative art work up....
the volunteer fire department had the whole building done with ROY LICTHCHENSTIEN type of drawings of firement, a woman screaming 'fire', and lots of flames....it was all professionally done, and with approval of the fire department....They spray painted the words in flames, 'FEUER UND FLAMME' in english 'FIRE AND FLAMES' which means being 'obsessed' ...quite clever...and the art work was incredible.
it was a fun walk around the trendy neighborhood, but i wouldn't want to live there, as they say.....speaking of neighborhoods, when we took the U-BAHN and S-BAHN train (U underground, S fast=direct) The conductor came on the speaker system and said, 'Eppendorfer Baum, If you want to live in a nice neighborhood, this is where you get off.' Everyone laughed. (During WWII, this is the area the British did NOT bomb during the raids, because of all the beautiful manisons. The British wanted to occupy those houses after the war. The Americans bombed the factories, not the neighborhoods.)
We did do a U-BAHN metro stop photo op...yes, we stopped at the SCHLUMP station...That brings a huge smile to any English speaker....SCHLUMP....lol..Though the state sponsored billboards , which ares 10 feet by 15 feet in the SCHLUMP metro station cause me to just break out laughing....it featured a stick drawing of a woman and man...the stick guy had his pants open while the woman stick figure was looking down them. 'PREMATURE EJACUATION? 1 out of 5 men experience it. Call for fast help to slow you down.'
