Blue grey gnatcatcher at Horicon
Not the most gorgeous catch of these guys, but this makes for an interesting bit of fun, at least for me. I have recently been elevating my flash with a beamer on my tripod, rather than on the hot shoe to avoid red eye, as a friend of mine told me that if you do this with a slight amount of flash, you can get some great feather detail - well as usual he was right. The most important thing we can do to develop our skills in nature photographers is to be able to watch what our friends do, and listen to their advise and quiet our own egos to take in what is around us. I was happy to shoot this weekend early in the day and enjoyed the serenity. It was peaceful.
There is a great article about flash use in this month's nature photographer about flash by Art Morris - check it out, it is very well written and helpful, and keep your eyes (or in my case - one eye) open and see what you can and learn! Thanks everyone - I've learned lots from y'all!
