Most mornings this spring, as I welcomed the sun from the blind at Brick Pond I was serenaded by the deep, resonating "rooom-rooom-rooom" sound of bullfrogs as they signaled to their mates. More often heard than seen, a few times I had scanned the water in front of the blind but previously hadn't located the culprit. On this overcast Saturday morning I had been looking further out when I noted a suspicious bump in the water nearby. Using my lens to pull me closer I peered out to find an eye glancing back at me. Shortly after I found a second, hiding in the reeds. Bullfrogs have eyes situated on the tops of their heads, allowing them to remain inconspicuous under water as they watch out for threats.

Most festivities are marked by drawing of these colourful rangolis outside houses and open courtyards. It’s quite an art and girls grow up learning it from their mothers. It’s mostly geometric and floral.

The basic designs are put in place using a single white coloured rangoli and then the other colours are spread. When the patterns are large, many from the family, community, neighbourhood participate to spread the colours. Here you see two children doing that, their bright shirts adding colour to colour.

Shot on iphone.

I am wrapping this series with this submission. I have truly enjoyed walking around holding a piece of glass lens that holds invisible power to capture colour that celebrates life, in love and pain, making everyday a special day.

Thank you so much for all your love.

With most of the track covered by snow, North Shore Track Services GP9 115 looks like it just parked in line with the other heavy equipment at Laurentian Aggregate in Largo, Minnesota laid up for the winter. This GP9 is used to switch out stone cars here at the quarry for interchange to CN. In the background, a pair of CN GEVO's can be seen loading a raw ore shuttle train at the Thunderbird Mine.

It seems like most places across the country have some version or other of a balancing rock. Certainly in Kamloops there is the well-known Coyote Balancing Rock. I recall a very large prominent one on the east cost near Peggy’s Cove and one in northern Ontario as well (I think over near Parry Sound). This is the one most noticed on Haida Gwaii. What I find interesting is that rarely do I see comment about the implications of their age. I assume deposited at the time a glacier retreated, it gives me pause to wonder how many generations of kids and eagles have sat with it.

In Sallent de Gállego, most of the population is dedicated to activities related to tourism and/or livestock, so it is common to see cows or horses in the vicinity of the town, producing bucolic images like the one shown in the photograph.

The most aggressive kingfisher in our region and pretty much seen everywhere. Its an opportunistic bird that hunts many things - birds like Indian White-Eye, smaller chicks, Lizards, Skinks, little crabs, frogs and fish too.

The birds have lots of patience and they are often seen perched rather than flying. They find a spot and wait, wait, wait till they find some prey to catch. It could be some frog, insect in the fields, or a fish / tadpole, frog in a pond nearby. On this day, I found this one waiting on the edge of a lake on this nice perch - sitting and waiting for some prey to show up. It sat there for a long time and flew away to the other side of the lake.

Thanks in advance for your views, faves and feedback - much appreciated.

The most opulent public bathroom in the country can be found at the beautiful Wat Rong Khun in Chiang Rai. Read below for more information.

Wikipedia: Wat Rong Khun, better known as the White Temple, is a Buddhist temple in Pa O Don Chai, Mueang District, Chiang Rai province, Thailand. Situated outside the city of Chiang Rai, the temple attracts a large number of visitors, both Thai and foreign, making it one of Chiang Rai's most visited attractions. The White Temple was created by master Chalermchai Kositpipat, the national artist who designed, constructed, and opened it to visitors in 1997.

A structure that stands out because of its color is the rest rooms building. Another very ornately decorated structure, this golden building represents the body, whereas the white ubosot represents the mind. The gold symbolizes how people focus on worldly desires and money. The white building represents the idea to make merit and to focus on the mind, instead of material things and possession.

The most striking feature that everyone most often sees on a Ring-necked Duck is the white ring on its beak and not the ring on its neck that gave its name. The cinnamon colored ring on the neck is not always visible and the sun has to shine in a particular angle to make it so. People sometime wonder why is it called Ring-necked when the ring is clearly on its beak. This photo was taken in 2014 when the entire marina was frozen solid except for one little area at the entrance of the dock which was kept ice free and the duck was actively feeding in the area. Tussilago farfara, commonly known as coltsfoot, is a plant in the groundsel tribe in the daisy family Asteraceae, native to Europe and parts of western and central Asia. The name "tussilago" is derived from the Latin tussis, meaning cough, and ago, meaning to cast or to act on.

Most of our lizard orchids haven't opened their strange flowers yet, but this particular plant has started to unfurl its long, coiled lip. Its signature smell of male goats is already there as well ;-)

The most wonderful thing happened while at Frozen Head, I learned how to do the soft watering. I hadn't figured that part out yet and apparently hadn't gotten to that in my book yet, so I'm a trial by error, learn by doing type of person so I just kept pushing buttons and finally figured it out. You should have heard me scream out when I did it. I was so happy! This is one of many with the tripod. The only thing I did on this shot was sharpen just a tidbit. I didn't want to change anything else because I thought it was good as is!

The most precious thing you can get from someone you love is their time.

It's not the words, it's not the flowers, it's not the gifts. It is the time.

Because that doesn't come back and what he gave to you is yours alone, no matter if it was an hour or a lifetime.

U zlatnom satu mala jedrilica lagano klizi kanalom, dok se u daljini nadvija Krčki most. More zrcali tople tonove zalaska, a dan polako predaje svoje boje večeri. Nigdje im se ne žuri – luka čeka, a ljeto diše sporim, mirnim ritmom.

In the golden hour, a small sailboat glides gently through the channel, with the Krk Bridge rising in the distance. The sea mirrors the warm hues of sunset, as the day slowly surrenders its colors to the evening. There’s no rush – the harbor awaits, and summer breathes in a slow, calm rhythm.

Most Londoners will know the bridge and recognise this support structure.

The Hungerford Bridge crosses the River Thames in London, and lies between Waterloo Bridge and Westminster Bridge. It is a steel truss railway bridge – sometimes known as the Charing Cross Bridge – flanked by two more recent, cable-stayed, pedestrian bridges that share the railway bridge's foundation piers, and which are named the Golden Jubilee Bridges.

Winter is almost over now

I spent most of the year

Dreading you

You are a curse that always

Lasts about 2 to 3 months

Though, each year I'm alive

Your visits grow shorter

You remind me of death

Everything will leave us in time

All living entities have an Expiration

Not all dates are readable or Predictable

But winter comes and takes so much away from us.

It is hard to even appreciate Autumn

When you think about

All of the beauty dying.

All of the colors drying out.

And the Withering…

The challenge to find beauty

In less expected places.

The air, although it seems, crisp at first, becomes

Far more chilling, and intolerable.

The greater the years I am alive,

The more brutal it feels.

It gets to feeling like

I have no skin at all.

But now, I realize

Spring is actually coming.

Spring is a hopeful time yet

Will I ironically miss the dread?

I feel remorse for the fact that

I have no excuse to stay

Inside, isolated, and depressed.

This feels much more like my

Genuine human state.

I cannot resist the world in Spring when life is reborn

I literally have no reasons left

To not go outside.

The experience of the world is

Waiting for me.

Am I ready?

The Charles Bridge (Czech: Karlův most is a famous historical bridge that crosses the Vltava river in Prague, Czech Republic. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished in the beginning of the 15th century. As the only means of crossing the river Vltava (Moldau), the Charles Bridge was the most important connection between the Old Town, Prague Castle and adjacent areas until 1841. This "solid-land" connection made Prague important as a trade route between Eastern and Western Europe. The bridge was originally called the Stone Bridge or the Prague Bridge but has been the "Charles Bridge" since 1870.

While most of the northern states, and Canadian Provinces have already had their first snowfall of the year, the coastal region of BC has been blessed with positive temperatures and near constant rainfall instead. In spite of this, I set off this past weekend to shoot the Fraser Canyon. Train activity was quite slow for a Saturday morning, so I was forced to pivot from my plan to stay on the 'CP' side of the canyon, and instead go wherever the traffic was moving.

After hearing that I would have an extended drought of eastbounds running up the Cascade Sub, I headed over to the Yale Sub to wait for the next westbound departing Boston Bar. A new location that was on my list, was on the east side of the Chapman's Bar Tunnel. Credit for figuring out this location goes to Ryan A, who shot a great scene here a week prior. (Thanks Ryan!)

Wikipedia: The city of Nan's most famous wat is renowned for its cruciform ubosot which was constructed in 1596 and restored during the reign of Phra Chao Anantaworritthidet (Chao Nakhon Nan No.62nd) (1852-1892).

It is the only temple which was built as if it were on the back of two immense snakes (or Nagas). Each of the four entrances is preceded by a small corridor topped by a finely decorated, point-shaped structure (underlining the royal origin of the temple) and is equipped with smoothly carved doors; with Chinese demon guards in the east, flowers in the north and forest life motives in the Lanna style in the west and south.

The wat's interior is impressive. It is also a good example of Thai Lue architecture. The structure of the roof is supported by twelve teak pillars decorated with gold on black and red lacquer and elephants' motives. The ceiling is also finely decorated. The flowered altar resting in the center of the bôt supports four Buddhas of the Sukhothai style in the pose of Bhūmisparsa mudrā

Well preserved murals of great value illustrating the Khattana Kumara Jataka on the Northern wall and the Nimi Jatakas on the Western wall as well as scenes of the local life of the time when they were painted by Thai Lue artists during the restoration of the temple at the end of the 19th century. Europeans can even be noticed: a reference to the arrival of the French to whom the East of the Nan valley area was yielded in 1893. The style is rather distinctive and quite removed from the traditional style of temple paintings in Thailand.
