The six monumental canvases of the exhibition were created by Olivier Debré as the components of a single series in 1990-1991. The title of the exhibition, drawing a symbolic link between Claude Monet's Nymphéas and Debré's large paintings, evokes the entire history of 20th century abstraction. The late works of Monet have indeed been considered by some artists - the abstract expressionists, in particular - as the first manifestations of a form of abstraction in painting. "The Water Lilies of Olivier Debré" does not intend to invoke a report of direct influence between the Impressionist and the painter Loire, but proposes to emphasize the conceptual relationship of their respective creative processes.

The exhibition Les Nymphéas by Olivier Debré allows to present to the public for the first time and in its entirety, this series unfolding its colors on nearly fifty-five meters. The work, assuming a spatial dimension, requires a singular clash, allowing to embrace the painting from several points of view, in a manner comparable to that of which the artist perceived his work in the workshop. It is not a direct representation of the river, but an interpretation of its fluidity, its liquidity, properly plastic. Faced with these works, the gaze escapes, blossoms, wanders at the whim of the surface and is lost in the games of transparency and matter, sometimes dry, sometimes wet. Because Debré does not work the material only to strike the vision, it gives to its colors a tactile relief and an enveloping presence which spreads well beyond the limits of the canvas. In the manner of the Nymphéas of the Orangery, these six paintings of the Loire, among the largest ever painted by Debré, form an incredible almost uninterrupted fresco of colors and light. Juxtaposed in the white gallery, they imply a total immersion in a mental and colorful pictorial landscape that could be described as "Wall painting" ¹. This unusual combination, this sensory suggestion make this hanging a great show

Monument Valley - Taken in February 2015.

There are several places at Monument Rocks in western Kansas where the soft chalk formations can be seen. The ultimate fate of this exposed chalk is clear to see here. Monument Rocks is listed as one of the eight wonders of Kansas. It is not easy to fully appreciate all the wonders in my state, since two of them are below ground level: www.kansassampler.org/8wonders/

The chalk was deposited during the Cretaceous Period of geologic history, about 80 million years ago, when the central interior of the U.S. was covered by a seaway. The several hundred feet deep water contained single-celled animals that drifted to the sea floor for eons, creating a mucky ooze. This material was perfect for trapping and preserving the remains of animals that lived in that ocean, such as fish, turtles, sharks, swimming reptiles called mosasaurs and plesiosaurs, swimming birds, gliding reptiles called pterosaurs, as well as invertebrate animals such as giant clams. Today the chalk beds routinely give up these fossils. Probably the best-known fossil from these beds is the famous "fish-within-a-fish" on display at the Sternberg Museum in Hays.

(Wikipedia)

A huge storm rises in the early evening at the border of Monument Valley, Utah. I shot this panorama on last 4th July, almost a year ago, but now remembered again the gorgeous light and mood of this sunset.

Storms continued pounding the entire valley area all day and let up just enough to allow me to shoot with some filtered light at sunset. Even then I still had to wipe the lens free of a stray raindrop or two. I missed getting any lightning strikes and had to work around a multitude of tourists getting shots of themselves on the two large boulders here, but I think I did alright. I had a great time just watching the storm move across this iconic landscape.

Thanks for stopping by for a look!

It looked promising for a good sunset tonight so I took a trip out to Penshaw monument. It seemed to be very popular at this time of day which was handy for this shot, just as the setting sun was shining through the arches. I think the black and white approach works best for this picture. I assure you these people did not pose for this shot.

A Happy New Nut to everyone!

In the center of this photo U may notice a tiny litle village. It is called Borg and its where I was born and raised. The surroundings are quite spectacular and the light is really incredible during most of the different seasons. I do hope that some of the flickr family once in their lifetime could take the possibility and visit a few of theese beautiful islands to see for themselves- And if U need guiding, just give me a call :)

So I was doing a Buzzfeed quiz yesterday to see what my "spooky soulmate" should be, and I kept coming up with Gargoyle as my result. My fae girlfriend told me this was impossible for her to fulfill as she couldn't stay quiet long enough. (At least I think that's what she said, I was talking at the time as per usual.)

Today I am not quite a Gargoyle but I am rock hard. This is the Jen skin by Gloom in Scream, the Miyabi hair corsage by Mandala which was on the marketplace for only 75l this weekend and the Poison eye makeup by Miamai.

YES MIAMAI IS BACK OMG CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!

Monica Outlander has promised all kinds of goodies to come. If you haven't known me long, then you won't know I used to be one of the Miamai team and there used to be a pictures of me all over the danged place. Complete with hand drawn pubes. Not even kidding. I promise you that if you visit Miamai this time, you're safe.

For now.

At a modest 448 meters high, Reinebringen is far from one of the highest peaks on the Lofoten islands. Yet this is more than made up for by the iconic view from the summit. The view, combined with the easy access from Reine and a constant flow of images on social media means that Reinebringen is one of the most popular hikes on Lofoten, with hundreds of people making the ascent each day during the summer season.

In 2016 construction on a stone stairway on the mountain was started due to the increased erosion and danger of rockfall from the high amount of visitation. As of July 2019 and a cost of 7 million Norwegian kroner, the Nepali Sherpa team as completed all but the final 50 meters at the top of the mountain. So now the route is little more than a 1560 step stone staircase. It is likely the steps will be completed when funding can be obtained.

This certainly was a moment to remember!

Not long before I took this shot, rain was pouring down and lightning bolts were dropping all around me. Suddenly, the rain stopped and the sun poked through a low hole in the clouds right at sunset, illuminating a small rainbow on the left and creating an inverse mitten shadow in the middle butte.
