Very nice outlook from Monks Bay. The tidal current is quite obvious in this area.

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Is a Theravada (school of the elder monks) Wat in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. The temple is often referred to as "Doi Suthep" although this is actually the name of the mountain where it's located. It is a sacred site to many Thai people. The temple is 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from the city of Chiang Mai. From the temple, impressive views of Chiang Mai can be seen.

A very old and grey, wrinkled and bearded Medieval monk, bald in the middle of his skull , old wrinkled hands, in a black colored monk’s habit sitting at a catheder writing an illuminated, colorful manuscript with a goose feather. The monk is very much concentrated on his task. Background of leather bound old books. Low light coming through glass stained windows. Realistic impasto style painting

After spending one month in Buddhist monastery, these young monks are going home with their parents. An old tradition practiced in Thailand.

According to UNICEF, about half of the 69,000 monks in Cambodia are children, some as young as 10 years old. The age at which a young man becomes a monk is a matter of individual choice, but in theory, most Cambodian men over 16 serve terms as bhikkhus. However, most young men do not intend to become fully ordained bhikkhus and remain as monks for less than a year. To become fully ordained monks they have to be at least 20 years old.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw these 3 monks shooting the Three pagodas of Wat Phra Si Sanphet in Ayutthaya. I was pretty far away and with my 18-70mm lens there was no way I was going to get a quality shot - so I ran towards them, trying to avoid tripping over the ruins and got as close as I could without startling them before taking this shot.

Here is another interesting shot of a monk in Thailand and a similar (but different) shot taken by Farl.

Where does your eye go? I guess I can't answer this for everyone, but my eye is initially drawn to the strong crimsons of the young monk's robes. Since there is nothing particularly light in the photograph and the background is so dark, the mid-tones of the highly coloured robe glow in the image. The dominate. I have used a little extra contrast (using a curves adjustment layer) to enhance the three-dimensionality (a little like using the clarity slider in Lightroom, ACR or Capture One).

Peace is shattered on a bitterly cold morning at Monks Sidings Warrington. The returning Peakstone empties from Carterhouse Widnes pass the box and the recently severed link into the former Monks Steel works. I worked in Warrington around this time and knew just about all the signalmen in the area.

Monk Bar is the principal gate way on the north side of York. It dates mainly from the 14th century, with the topmost part added in the 15th century and windows renewed in the 16th century. It lies about 100 metres south east of the site of the Roman porta decumana of the legionary fortress, also the site of the pre-14th century northern gate of the city. A drawing from this earlier gateway site was what I had in mind. Unfortunately the wall walk at that spot is too narrow, I would have been in the way of too many people passing by. I drew the main forms on site and added depth to the shadows, and a few extra stones later. When we took a large group of junior school children for a walk on the wall recently they were amazed when o pointed out the giants on the turret tops, about to hurl boulders on attackers, and the upside staircase we used to get back to street level.

here it is the 3th pose out of 6 from our by now famous monk serie :-D
