Blue stands for Monaco Grand Prix

The Jardin Exotique botanical garden of Monaco takes you away from the bustle and crowds of the principality and gives you the best view of the rock occupied by the Grimaldi castle and Monaco's old town.

The Prince's Palace of Monaco is the official residence of the Sovereign Prince of Monaco. Built in 1191 as a Genoese fortress, during its long and often dramatic history it has been bombarded and besieged by many foreign powers. Since the end of the 13th century, it has been the stronghold and home of the Grimaldi family who first captured it in 1297.

The current head of the family is Albert II of Monaco, son and successor of Prince Rainier III and the princess Grace of Monaco, formerly Grace Kelly.

The Principality of Monaco.

Yes, it's very hilly and it did rain briefly, but practice for the annual F-1 race went on although we couldn't see any of it as they had erected barriers so you couldn't see unless you paid (which we didn't). Still, you could clearly hear the noise from the motors.

Visiting Monaco

There are two main ports at Monaco, but we arrived at the. smaller port, Port de Fontvieille. It was raining when we disembarked, so the priority for us all was to find somewhere to shelter and get our bearing. I didn't take many photos along the way, but I did snap this little beauty!

Monégasque, English and Italian are also spoken and understood by many residents. With an area of 2.08 km2 (0.80 sq mi), Monaco is the second-smallest sovereign state in the world, after Vatican City. Its population of 38,367 in 2023 makes it the most densely populated sovereign state. Monaco has the world's shortest coastline: 3.83 km (2.38 mi). The principality is about 15 km (9.3 mi) from the border with Italy and consists of nine administrative wards, the largest of which is Monte Carlo.(From Wikipedia)

Monaco is a sovereign city-state, located on the French Riviera in Western Europe. It is bordered only by France. Monaco has an area of 2.02 km2 (0.78 sq mi) and a population of 36,371; Monaco is the second smallest and the most densely populated country in the world. Monaco has a land border of 4.4 km (2.7 mi), a coastline of 4.1 km (2.5 mi), and a width that varies between 1,700 and 349 m (5,577 and 1,145 ft). Through land reclamation, Monaco's land mass has expanded by twenty percent.

I just had to get a photo of this statue as we walked along the road parallel to the Port Hercule.

William Charles Frederick Grover-Williams (born William Charles Frederick Grover, 16 January 1903 – 18 March 1945 (or shortly thereafter)), also known as "W Williams", was a British Grand Prix motor racing driver. He is best known for winning the first Monaco Grand Prix.

A statue of Grover-Williams in his 1929 Monaco Grand Prix-winning Bugatti Type 35 is located at the first corner of the Circuit de Monaco (Sainte-Dévote Chapel).

The Exotic Garden of Monaco has a very nice display of cacti and other succulent plants that are native to dry zones around the world so it’s very different from the majority of gardens you would find in this part of Europe. The view from this garden is also breathtaking because the garden was built along the cliffside and you have spectacular views of the Principality of Monaco, including the Rock of Monaco and the Mediterranian coastline.
